Tried to contact the hotel 14 times the day of checkin per hotel instructions on Booking confirmation. They did not answer the phone but directed caller to leave a message. I left 14 messages but got no response. I gave up and booked another hotel. About 8 pm I got a message from the hotel via Booking messaging system with the instruction to call a number. This number was a disconnected and not in service according to the message from the phone company. The day after the checkin I got a message from the hotel through the Booking messaging system that the reservation was a no show and I would be charged for the reservation.

This is a good place to stay in Lone Pine, next to restaurants. The hostel has private rooms with private bathrooms as well as shared bathrooms. We stayed upstairs with a view of the mountains. It is kind of noisy with all the trucks going by, often. Using earplugs in those rooms facing the street would be good. The room has coffee maker, small fridge. Downstairs is a shop with clothing and souvenirs.

Use paper cups or better, ceramic coffee cups. It would be nice with some chairs outside the rooms since the view is very nice.

The property is well-placed as a starting point for hikes around Mt Whitney area. It was my second stay here so I knew what to expect - a clean room and friendly staff in a lovely building on the Lone Pine Main Street.

Our sleep was distracted by a noisy air condition in our room as well as in some room nearby, so switching off our unit has not sorted the problem. The accommodation value felt more favourable during a low season (February 2024) than now (high season in August 2024).

The room had two bunk beds, which made it feel a bit cramped, but overall it was equipped with everything necessary to relax before hiking. I appreciated the remote service and promptly received all the registration instructions.

The location is super convenient for backpackers and hikers due to being close to several trails and mt Whitney. And the views were stunning. Also the price is really good and has everything you need and close to stores and restraunts.

I was in the bunk room and there is no good place to it your gear when there are lots of others.

The staff was very friendly. The beds are comfortable and the room was clean. On the first floor, where we were, they have a terrace that faces the street and you can sit on it and look at the main street. The sound insulation of the windows is relatively good and you don't hear much noise from passing trucks.

The room is relatively small but not too small.

We loved the location and our room with a view of Whitney right out the window, that was the kicker. SO COOL! Being able to walk to everything right in town felt like such a luxury after spending so much time in the car to get there.

We could have used some more coffee. I don't think they had refilled the coffee from the last stay. :(

This was my 3rd stay at the Whitney Portal Hotel, and whilst it provides only a rather basic comfort and facilities, it can't be beaten in its great location and morning view on the Mt Whitney Mountain from the property porch.

I stayed here on my way to Bishop for an Ultramarathon. The views of the mountains were beautiful, especially first thing in the morning. It's located right at the intersection of highway 395 and the Whitney Portal road which would make it very easy to get an early start on hiking in the area. It was an excellent stop along the way to Bishop (only about an hour away). In addition to the views and convenient locations, the rooms are well designed and the staff is very friendly.

There was nothing that I didn't like.

Staff was very accommodating to our late night arrival. The room was inexpensive and appropriate for the good night's sleep we were hoping for. No bells and whistles, just a comfortable place to sleep for the night.

Balcony floor tiles are loose and cracking. Didn't affect our stay though.
