The gentleman that checked us in was friendly, and our room was ready when we arrived (a little early). The room was sparse but clean and comfortable. The parking lot had been freshly coated and the area was well lighted at night. The room rate was great. The train runs on the tracks behind the hotel but we put in earplugs and slept well. There aren’t a lot of food options (other than fast food) in Van Horn, and we wanted a beer with dinner. Gilberts right next door looked like a bar but was actually a nice family style sit down restaurant and we had a fantastic meal. It was mostly other couples and two sheriffs there for dinner. In all a gem of a find in a small town. I would definitely stay again.

Was needing just a good night's sleep to continue traveling in the morning, that wasn't too pricey. We found the Desert Inn to fit all of our needs, was clean and comfortable. The Staff was very friendly and accommodating, and he even gave me directions on where to get a quick bite to eat. The price was very reasonable. I would definitely stay there again, if I had the opportunity.

I did not find anything wrong with the place, considering what the stay was for... a quick night's sleep to continue traveling to New Mexico. It fit the "weary traveler's" bill well, and I would definitely recommend it.

For the money, I don't think you can beat this place! The room was clean & had all the amenities needed for an overnight stay. All that was missing was a coffee pot to make our necessary morning cup of coffee. But, since everything else met or exceeded our expectations, I won't complain. The owner, Peter, was kind, courteous & professional, too!

Just being lazy, I'd say a coffee pot would be nice. But, then, for the price we paid for the room, it's okay.

This motel is in a run down section along a highway with many businesses nearby closed forever. The motel is old, with older furniture, but everything is clean and works. So if you're looking for a good night's sleep (there is a train running through behind the property but it will not make you relive the scenes in My Cousin Vinny), a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, a functioning fridge and TV, this will meet your expectations and offer value.

location was excellent, near eating, gas stations, etc. On the main drag, but away from the street. Heard nothing above the air conditioner, which was not a loud obnoxious one. Was greeted warmly, got room key, very clean and clean smelling room, has been simply updated, but it was all good for me. excellent sleep for the cost. Got recommendation to excellent restaurant.

Breakfast NA, Location was great, in town and walkable. Like the updates and remodeling to Inn. Room interior was clean, including bathroom and well organized. Beds comfortable.

NA. Inn chosen for location to town and pricing. Even with all the updates price and location were our priorities for travel to and from Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

Other hotels all over town/county can take a few lessons on cleanliness from this Motel's cleaning crew - spotless! Front desk gal (cleaning crew!) was very nice and accommodating, the mini fridge was already cold, the bed was comfortable, the shower was spacious and had great pressure.

I didn't realize the train tracks were right behind the Motel - once I figured out what the sound was, it became white noise. Note: there was no train horn, just the sound of the train on the tracks. The A/C worked great but a little loud - again, became white noise.

No frills but clean, comfortable, working fridge w/freezer & AC. All rooms on ground floor, able to park right in front of room. Felt safe. Close walk to good Mexican restaurant. Located on road with little traffic.

Some smell from air freshener when I arrived; fine once aired out.

Very comfortable room. Clean, decent size, decent bathroom though the sink was kind of small and lacking in a place to hang the towels. No big deal though, still a decent bathroom. Nice big shower. The Bed was comfortable and decent internet and TV. Microwave and Fridge. Ice machine worked fine. For the price, Desert Inn stacks up to many hotels/motels that I have paid a lot more for. It is obvious that owner/manager takes pride in what they do.

It would be nice if they would provide instant coffee, creamer and sweetener packets since there is a microwave. Also the trains, though not too bad, are a bit noisy. I recommend staying in the office wing farther from tracks.
