This is a fabulous hotel, I just don’t understand the relatively low score it has. If you read the reviews they are a bit ridiculous in the negative issues they mention. We had a brilliant stay, defo go for the ocean view rooms, they are amazing. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable and it seems the hotel has recently been refurbished. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Gym, Onsen, Spa and pools are wonderful. 10 to 15 minutes easy walk into town if you don’t want to take the electric cart. Good value tours too, actually cheaper than those offered in town (we did the day cruise) and a nicer boat too. This is definitely the best place to stay in Cat Ba at the moment. The whole area down to the sea in front of the town is a massive construction site, very unsightly and noisy 24 hours a day. The Flamingo is an oasis of quiet. The best hotel that we stayed in during our time in Vietnam.

We visited in the low season on Christmas Day. The resort was eerily quiet and despite some renovations/ maintenance occurring it was perfect to relax. Entire parts of the resort complex were empty and appeared to be undergoing renovation. The pools are amazing but it was too cold to swim. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the pizza was exceptional, we had pizza multiple times although dinner service was slow. We were upgraded to a penthouse in the central building (building 2, level 16) with amazing ocean views. Great TV channels, bath and large shower. Kitchenette okay but no utensils to cook or prepare food with. The township was dead quiet with a large land reclamation under construction for a giant new resort/town. We didn’t explore the island much but booked a Lan Ha Bay tour and bus to Hanoi via the hotel where the staff were very helpful . Overall the best place to stay in Cat Ba and good value in the low season.

Only complaint with the room was that the bench surfaces weren’t wiped clean and the sealant finishing around the bench was shabby

The choices of swimming at several beaches or in many pools at the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic. Lots of choices of hot and cold food with lots of very attentive staff on hand clearing and replenishing. Also a coffee machine making Americano, Cappuccino and Latte coffees with lots of fresh milk available. If you haven't quite got used to Vietnamese black coffee or having it with condensed milk this is a nice choice to have. Rooms are finished to a high standard. It is a short walk to Cat Ba town. The hotel does have electric shuttles that can drop and collect you. If you don't mind a short walk you can walk as and when suits you.we enjoyed eating and drinking at the Little Leaf in the town. Eating on the ground floor and a nice rooftop bar on the fourth floor - no lift though.

No complaints. Surprised to see some mentions of chaotic breakfast service and choice of food. Maybe they were having a bad day or staff absence. We found it to be excellent!

Flamingo hotel is nicely set up with a lot to do in the hotel. We enjoyed the multiple swimming pools and the gym. The location is good. We stayed in tower 3. An electric golf car can take you to Tower 1 from where the city is a 10 minutes walk away. At tower 1 you can also take another electric taxi for about 10-15k per person to the beginning of the centre (1-way). Or the hotel can arrange for transportation. Walking bridges connect the 3 towers with nice views. The green and flowers are very well maintained and beautiful. We stayed end of April. The weather was warm but cloudy. During one night we had heavy thunder. The sea is cold but refreshing. Each day you will get 2 bottles of water in the room (when it is cleaned). The staff was were very friendly. Especially the hospitality of Quang. His service was sublime and his English is very good. He always helped with questions and tour bookings.

The game room is nice for kids but not all games work. We were skipped with cleaning one day. It was easy to request for towels and water bottles at the reception. When showering the bath room will get wet as you are showering in the bath tub. Would love to have more kids entertainment

If you are considering booking this resort, do it now! We had the absolute best experience here and it was great value for money. Firstly, it was not exactly easy to get to Cat Ba Island. We arrived at the Ben Binh Ferry terminal to discover it has been completely demolished. Don’t make the same mistake we did, just pay for a private bus company to transfer you. Once we arrived we were free upgraded to an amazing huge room with an incredible view. We were given free vouchers to use throughout the hotel and a couple free vouchers to use the buggy’s to get into the town. The resort is only a short walk into town but the complete beach front there is under construction therefore we spent a decent amount of time in the resort. The included breakfast buffet was fantastic and had a great variety of foods. The resort has 2 beaches to choose from, yes two! There are interconnecting bridges to get between the towers, it’s very easy. I chose to have a facial and massage in the spa and loved it. We also had the Japanese onsen included in our rooms which was a great surprise and used it every day, we loved it! The food is not cheap but it’s not crazily overpriced either. We chose to have the dinner buffet twice and were pleasantly satisfied. There are also 2 outdoor pools to swim in and an indoor pool which came in handy when the weather was cold. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back!

We've stayed in Flamingo for 3 nights in May and it was pretty good. The hotel is huge, it's located on the beach and it's 10-15min walk from Cat Ba town. Hotel offers electric shuttle car service if needed. We've had a ocean view room on 10th floor and the views were incredible. The room was slightly dated but nice. The biggest downside was a lack of shower - there was a bath tub with a shower head, without any door/curtains, so when "showering", you have no choice but to flood the whole bathroom and the 5 towels you have are needed to dry the floor after, extremely weird design that I've never seen before. Food was ok, there is few restaurants and bars to eat and drink at. Very nice beach bar with great staff, serving some really nice cocktails. Due to main cat ba beach being under some major construction/developments, lots of people are coming to the beach where the hotel is placed at, however not many of these people willing to pay 200k for a sunbed (free to a hotel guests), so there was always plenty of space to lay down. Also the hotel is made of three separate buildings with two different beaches, it's all connected by a bridge on 11th floor. Views are spectacular from the rooftop bar and restaurant on 17th floor. I would stay again in Flamingo if I ever came back to Cat Ba.

We were in the 2nd tower, Grand Tower, which is located between two cliff outcrops on Cat Co 2 beach. The beach was beautiful and kept very clean, with lots of equipment for hire.  Unfortunately didn't get chance to use the outside 'pool' as weather not appropriate. The location was perfect for Cat Ba Town and tours going from there (a 10 minute walk) whilst not being affected by the major building work going on. Our 'suite' was fabulous. It had an amazing view over the beach into Lan Ha Bay with the karsts and a family of black kites. So much space! a massive bed, large bathroom with seperate loo, shower and freestanding bath; small kitchen (which you weren't allowed to use 🤷🏼‍♀️ except for kettle and 'fridge) plus a seating/dining area too.  Breakfast was taken in the Sun Lounge on the 17th floor, extremely varied choice to suit multiple dietary requirements; would have to be very picky to not find anything! Best bread in 3 weeks (multi seeded granary in addition to standard white baguette), although relatively limited fruit options compared to that over the past 3 weeks - ie no bananas, pineapple or mango. Also, for a coffee loving nation, the coffee was dire. Moving between the buildings is either via the SkyWalks on 11th floors which are fabulous, or (novelty) going outside and  walking the road. Service was as we came to expect, with a good greeting upon arrival; not a lot of English but Google Translate works well. I also enjoyed the Onsen very much.

The main restaurant (lunch/dinner) was on the Ground Floor ... of Tower 1! it was at the 4th time of asking that someone finally mentioned this. In the restaurant the only hot drink on offer was coffee (much better than at breakfast), however not option of any kind of tea.

A lot going on, from gaming rooms to pools. Was a bit of a maze & a tad overwhelming, but a super nice resort nonetheless. I imagine in busier months / hotter days the lounge chairs on the beach & in the pool area would fill faster - a lot of chairs were reserved with a towel which was annoying. Can only order beer (in terms of alcohol) at the shell pools in tower two. Views from our room were amazing & the pool was very nice to swim in with views of Lan Ha Bay & the resort.

The air con would auto turn off at certain times of the night, and not turn back on till late in the morning. We both woke up hot & sweaty at about 2am both nights. The shower bath is a bit dangerous to climb in and out of, and the floor got very wet. The restaurant food was ok, but we had to go to tower 1 to each lunch & dinner which was annoying. The restaurant in tower 2 wasn’t open unless you were eating as part of the buffet.

The hotel is beautiful and has great views over the beach. It is very well located—outside the crowded side of Cat Ba but still within walking distance of everything. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. We didn’t particularly like Cat Ba Island per se, and staying at Flamingo definitely improved our stay.

The staff doesn’t speak very good English, and there’s a bit too much of a resort vibe in the restaurants and overall facilities. The hotel is huge, with some areas closed or empty. Cat Ba is unfortunately going through a major construction project led by Sun World, and the bay near the city is undergoing massive redevelopment.

We upgrade to a Premier suite so we could enjoy an outdoor sitting area, note a deluxe room has large sliding doors only to a very small Juliet balcony. The price difference on booking.com was only $9AUD/night but it cost us $25AUD/night to upgrade on arrival. Our Ocean front room was superb, and the striking views of Han La Bay and the Charm pool below were unforgettable. The resort is very popular for Vietnamese families.

Food choices basically non-existent outside of the main restaurant. Luckily a stroll into Cat Ba town is an easy 5 minutes with many options for eating.
