This is an absolutely beautiful small hotel set in a historic building full of character. The old charm of the architecture is perfectly combined with modern comforts – the beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom is clean and well-equipped. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, thanks to the incredibly kind staff and the wonderful owner, who takes the time to share fascinating stories about the building’s history and the antiques throughout the hotel. It really adds a personal and authentic touch to the experience. The breakfast was also very good, with fresh options served in a cozy setting. There’s convenient parking available at the hotel, and the historic center of Gjirokastër is just a short walk away – perfect for exploring the beautiful old town without needing the car. If you’re looking for a unique and comfortable stay with a touch of history and heartfelt hospitality, this place is a true gem. We would love to come back!

large room, friendly staff, breakfast in the garden, exceptional value

Wi-Fi worked fine in the common area of the first floor, but was non-existent in room 6 (other than in the entryway where it was just very weak). Not the hotel’s problem, but when arriving from the North, Google sends you up some really bad one lane, two way, cobblestone lanes. There is a much better route if you drive past the foot of the castle rock, and take a right on a new asphalt road. That road brings you up to the high end of the castle above the town. Then there are roads wide enough for two cars most of the way to the hotel.

Honestly, Kalemi 2 blew us away! We booked Kalemi 1, but the amazing staff surprised us with a free upgrade to Kalemi 2!, stunning castle vibes and top-notch facilities made our stay unforgettable. Parking was a breeze(which is a hastle in this town), and exploring Gjirokaster's Old Town was steps away. But what truly impressed? The manager chasing us down to return our forgotten belongings. That's heart! Kalemi 2, you've earned our loyalty – 10/10, wholeheartedly recommended! Kristina, Fiola and Altga's genuine warmth - if you are into hospitality business. Hire them right away :)

This is a lovely heritage hotel in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage area. It's a great spot to explore from on foot. Our room at the top of the hotel had a lovely view. Others we saw further down are notable for their lovely architecture. The host was very helpful and has great English if your Albanian is limited. The directions to hotel were very useful particularly when self-driving in into Girokastra along the narrow, historical cobbled streets. Breakfast was very good and an excellent start to the day. I would happily stay here again.

Hotel Kalemi is a historic hotel within walking distance of the market at Gjirokaster. The staff were very welcoming and even provided a drop to the market when they were going there. Amazing views from our Pasha room (we paid for an upgrade on check-in). When we had some issues with charges for extra coffee at breakfast, they were kind enough to waive the charges. Overall, a great stay and good choice at a covenient location.

The hotel breakfast was just average compared to other breakfast experiences we had in Albania. It was decent not outstanding.

This hotel is a beautiful old ottoman period house. The rooms have many traditional features, but the bathrooms are modern. It is well placed for access to the castle and old bazaar. The staff are charming and helpful. Breakfast is copious and local in style. It is served in the courtyard, on the terrace or indoors as one wishes. There is a chilled cabinet for soft drinks and beer. This is very good value and a great place to stay.

Exceptional hospitality from Carolina. She was incredibly welcoming & friendly and the breakfast portions were massive!! Lovely balcony and room with AC with a stunning view (especially during sunset). Bathroom is very modern & clean.

The walk from the bus station is steep but that’s representative of anywhere in the old town.

Very unique property in a traditional Albanian style. The views were incredible especially from the upstairs balcony and it was an easy walk to town. Beds were also comfy and the breakfast in the garden was truly a special memory and atmosphere. Staff too were friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back!

Totally beautiful place, stunning views over the town and mountains, highly recommended. Comfy room with everything at a very high standard. We loved the Breakfast served on amazing balcony. Owners friendly and helpful. A short walk down the hill to all the fun restaurants and bars of the beautiful town.

Nothing at all. Only wish there was a kettle in the room - or the chance to borrow one. We like to make tea in the mornings when first wake up.

Very helpful staff. They came to meet us to help with directions and parking. Access was difficult as it is in the old town but the location is great for sightseeing. Excellent breakfast. Some noisy music from a neighbour.
