A boutique experience A-Z. Nice restaurant. Amazing Location. Helpful and supportive staff beyond the norm. Cozy yet lively. At the center of everything: 7 Minute walk to the old city 3 Minute's walk to the center of Nizami. Across the road are many designer shops. Next to Paul Cafe Across the street, a nice Italian restaurant - Dolce Vita One of the best Hookah Lounges next to it - Metropol 145 A minute's walk from Hard Rock Cafe A pharmacy is 2 minutes away Dolma - A traditional Azeri Cusine - 4 minutes away. And mainly Taxis are always around this spot. And I just booked again for New Year.

Nothing not to like

Very, traditional, boutique, small and elegant. Comfortable room. Wonderful small bar area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi was good. Bed was large and comfortable. Plenty of hot water for shower. Pleasant breakfast open til midday on weekends so I you have a lovely lie-in!

Some minor, mildly frustrating issues with the design of the room: no mirror near a plug socket for drying hair. Difficult to use kettle and coffee machine as hardwired in to a cupboard with no room to take lid off to full coffee machine with water. Could not use handheld part of shower in the holder as not strong enough to support it. Not enough hooks/hanger for robes and towels. Curtains had gaps when closed so sun pouring in early morning. No showers if you can’t get a late checkout but need to leave luggage and leave the hotel after checkout time. All just very minor niggles!

Exceptional stay at The Merchant Hotel Baku, Our stay at The Merchant Hotel Baku was absolutely wonderful, from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality. We would like to especially mention Mr. Waqif at the reception, who was very kind and polite. plus Mr.Nahid and Mr.Ali who did their best to make us feel comfortable and at home. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable, the bed is comfortable, the bed covers and bathroom towels are replaced daily, the closet is enough to unpack all your clothes and children's luggage in it especially if you are a family, the restaurant's menu is unique and you will not taste anything like it in Baku. You will remember my words because when you return home, you will remember how delicious their food tasted. The location is great between Nizami Street and the Old city, everything you needs are near such as restaurants of all kinds, cafes, coffee shops, sweets (children's sweets) in short if you are a couple or a family you don't have to worry about food, in addition there is a pharmacy very close by, and there is a grocery store and a supermarket a few steps away. If you are planning to visit Baku, we highly recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed! Thank you to the entire team for making our experience unforgettable. We can't wait to visit it again. Everything was perfect.

The hotel is very well located with walking distance from old town, Nizami street, promenade and metro stations. It's a very safe street as well for solo travellers. They are very responsive to any requests via email or messaging. From the time of check in to check out, the process was very smooth, quick with the staff being very attentive, warm and friendly. Manager Nahid was very helpful and made sure that the stay is very welcoming. The food prepared by chef Fariol was also quite delightful. The restaurant/bar area of the hotel is very charming. This hotel was the best choice.

I had a wonderful two-night stay at The Merchant Baku. From the moment I arrived, the front desk team, led by Assistant Front Office Manager Mr. Jafar, provided exceptional hospitality. His warm welcome and attention to detail made our stay truly special. Check-in and check-out were seamless, and the service throughout was highly professional. Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. The variety and quality of the offerings were excellent, and the restaurant team, led by the Restaurant Manager, ensured everything was perfectly managed. Their attentive and friendly service made each morning a great start to the day. The bar had a cozy atmosphere, though a wider selection of cocktails inspired by local flavors and a small complimentary snack with drinks would enhance the experience. The hotel’s historic charm and elegant design make it a fantastic place to stay. A few small improvements—such as upgrading bathroom amenities to more sustainable materials—could further elevate the experience. Overall, I highly recommend The Merchant Baku and appreciate the outstanding service from Mr. Jafar, the Restaurant Manager at breakfast and their teams.

“I had an exceptional experience at this hotel. The staff demonstrated great attention to detail, ensuring that all our needs were met and our stay was as comfortable as possible. The hotel itself is elegantly designed, and the service provided by the staff, particularly Jafar the receptionist, was outstanding. Jafar went above and beyond to accommodate any request with a smile. The location is ideal, situated near all the main attractions and within walking distance of numerous coffee shops, yet remarkably quiet, with no street noise. I highly recommend this hotel for its quality, service, and prime location.”

Cannot recommend the hotel enough. The best location one can ask for. Staff was very welcoming and assisted in every way to make the stay seamless. Rooms are quiet despite being located in such a busy street, beds are very large and luxurious. Housekeeping was done timely and well. It was a pleasure staying here and would 10/10 choose again for a stay.

Breakfast could have had more variety, and the sitting area was often too busy in the morning. There weren’t enough seats to accommodate all the guests on the property.

This hotel is in the best location. Out the front door you are about two blocks away from the Double Gates close to the restaurants in Old Town. Out the back door you have tons of coffee shops and restaurants as well as Nazimie street and the large pedestrian district. It's close to the underground passageway to get to the seaside-which is one of the loveliest seaside promenades I have ever seen. The staff is friendly. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good. They make an effort to mix it up a bit so you are not offered the exact same selection every day. As an aside, if you have any manat left over, you may want to exchange it back to dollars before you leave, even though you lose a bit, because you might not be able to exchange it when you get home. None of the exchange places in JFK take manats.

It is a lovely hotel with cozy rooms. The location is excellent, being close to the old city. The hotel has two entrances, which is very convenient if you’re traveling with small children. The main entrance leads to the road, while the back entrance opens to a boulevard lined with numerous coffee shops. We particularly enjoyed a themed coffee shop called ‘Friends.’ Just a small tip: if you need to exchange money, try to find a Kapital Bank branch as it offers better rates than other exchanges in the area.

Everything was good for us.

My room was large and welcoming and extremely quiet at night. The hotel decor is very tasteful, with a good mix of old and modern, and all in good condition. The breakfast was good and thank you to the attentive, friendly serving staff for making sure I had lots of morning tea with cold milk - not something that many people seem to ask for in Baku! Also a big thank you to Mrs Mansoura in housekeeping! The hotel is perfectly located on the edge of the old city - Icherisheher - and just a few minutes walk from the sea front. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area, as well as historical buildings, museums, etc. I could not have chosen a better place.

It's a tiny thing, but it would be good if the hotel had some small milk jugs for people who like milk in their tea. Pouring milk out of the small cups provided just made a mess of the table. Also, front desk was helpful but one or two more smiles would be great.
