- the property itself is amazing, so vast and gorgeous. The location is remote from everything and then you arrive in this paradise, breathtaking ! - the room, isolated from each other, like little villas and so comfortable. Very beautiful decoration - the restaurant: incredible view, very good food for reasonable prices, good cocktails and wine list - the pools & thermal waters: so many options to relax and enjoy your day, with a bar super close that serves drinks and snack all day. So nice - yoga class in the morning - massage option - all the animals in the property !! You get to see monkeys, agoutis, armadillos walking peacefully or hangin in the trees, this is amazing - the space : the place is so huge you have the feeling to be alone and not so much with other guests. Everyone has privacy and that is nice
- nothing, the hotel is amazing

We loved the whole property especially the restaurant overlooking the forests. The complimentary activities i.e. yoga session and guided hiking are also amazing! We didn't need to go out of the property at all for our 2 nights stay as we had everything we need - e.g. hiking trails, thermal river and pool to swim and good bars and restaurant. My favorite part was that we were able to spot monkeys several times at the property.
The outdoor shower at the center bangalow is probably not for everyone as you would need to handle some mosquitos and lots of fallen leaves (we stayed in late November), but it made me feel closer to the surrounding forests, and I ended up loving it!

This lodge is a treasure. Bungalows of different sizes and facilities are scattered throughout the forest. We stayed in the spacious centre bungalows with large panoramic windows overlooking the forest, a seating area and an outdoor shower. All furnished to a high standard, wonderful bed and bed linen. There is an (empty) fridge and daily small fresh bottles of water and air conditioning. We only met very friendly and helpful people. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed and the location above the gorge, the beautiful architecture and design do the rest. We stayed at the lodge at the beginning of December. At this time of year, the dry forest is full of leaves and particularly beautiful. You should know that this is not the case at the end of the dry season. The food was very good and the selection of dishes offers enough variety even if you are there for several days. From our point of view, the price-performance ratio is also good. The (cold and warm) pools and the thermal river where you can enjoy the warm water in a natural environment are wonderful. There are monkeys but unfortunately few other animals, especially few birds compared to other areas in Costa Rica. However, this is due to the dry forest ecosystem. Due to its proximity to the airport in Liberia, the lodge is a good place to end a trip to Costa Rica.
The only thing that doesn't fit is the lighting concept. Due to the location in the forest, there is very little daylight in the bungalows and everything is kept in black. In our opinion, this would have required the installation of sufficiently bright - or optionally bright - lighting. There are no lamps at all in the seating area (which incidentally also applies to the public seating areas in the lodge). Reading in the evening is impossible.

The remoteness and peacefulness mixed in with some adventure. Even though it is away from everything there was always something to do.
Sometimes dinner was a hit or miss. I found the dinner choices particularly the meats to be to be underwhelming due to the lack of seasoning. I tried both the chicken and the beef dishes, and although they were cooked to the correct doneness, they lacked the flavors I was anticipating. Adding a variety of herbs or a seasoning blend could greatly enhance the taste and overall dining experience. The staff was attentive and the presentation of the dishes was visually appealing, which I appreciated. I believe with some adjustments to the seasoning, the dining experience could match the high standards of the hotel’s other services.

Some of the friendliest staff we have found in any hotel anywhere. Great place to get close to nature in comfortable, well-equipped bungalows that offer a panoramic view of the forest outside and a chance to see lots of wildlife. The thermal river was a special experience, and the volcanic mud really did seem to make our skin younger :)
The food was excellent, but the menu was the same every day except for one of two specials. The lighting in our (Central) bungalow was very dim, limiting the nighttime options for reading, or even using the bathroom mirror!

Magnificent property and facilities, and impeccable guest services. Staff were incredibly helpful in the months and weeks leading up to our stay, proving lots of information, answering our questions, and helping us plan several things before we got there. When we arrived, were given the royal treatment, from a golf cart to bring us and our baggage to the reception and our bungalow, and cool drinks at check-in. The facilities were gorgeous, beautifully designed, with lots of care to ensure sustainability. The property and thermal river were wonderful for nature lovers, and we loved exploring the various areas for swimming. We also took a hike and the complimentary yoga class. The food at the bar and restaurant was delicious, and the view above the canopy was stunning. We had one of the East Bungalows right on the edge of the canyon and just loved hanging on the swing hammocks on our balcony early in the morning to hear the birds, the flowing river – and very often watched a family of howler or white faced monkeys swing by.
Rio Perdido is moving away from accommodating families with children under 12 years old, which is a shame. Our eight year old daughter was allowed because we booked prior to their policy change. We booked the Canyon Adventure zip lining activity, which was a stunning way to explore the canyon. However, while the zip lining staff were friendly, they could have been a touch more sensitive and reassuring with our daughter.

The property, the activities, the employees, the seclusion, nature, wildlife, ability to be in this wondrous and rare natural setting while not having to forgo amenities that we're used to; offers a rare chance to know this atypical ecosystem.
We couldn't find comfort in our bungalow with the air conditioner provided. Believe that our room needed a fan to circulate cold air. Or maybe the type of a/c used is not appropriate for this hot climate. In any event, we didn't sleep. Breakfast was included and offered many choices. Unfortunately, the omelettes we ordered were not good.

We had a wonderful week at Rio Perdido! The grounds are spectacular and the hotel does an incredible job integrating the facilities with nature. The bungalows are quite nice, with excellent lighting, air conditioning, and wi-fi. The indoor-outdoor dining facility is great. We were skeptical when we read reviews by others which said guests wouldn't go a day without seeing animals, but it was true. We saw troops of howler and capuchin monkeys every day, as well as birds, butterflies, iguanas, agouti, armadillos, and even an anteater. The activities are all excellent -- we especially loved the zipline canyon adventure and the river tubing. The food is quite good and there was a good assortment of cocktails. And the staff could not have been nicer and more responsive. We were so sad to leave and can't wait to go back!

The location is stunning, lovely staff, very good food, a lot of things to do and the yoga, tubing and the walk in the morning were great. The thermal rivers were unbelievable! It was my birthday and I got a lovely surprise in the room. Very attentive!
The rooms were very beautiful but less comfortable than expected (we stayed with 4 people in one room) and the minibar was empty besides water and coffee, the bathroom sink was unpractical for 4 people to put your stuff on, the lights in the rooms are not so good.

Everything. Incredibly beautiful and serene. The thermal river was secluded and peaceful and we had the largest swimming hole to ourselves for almost two hours. The staff was friendly and so helpful!
Nothing at all. We’ve travelled all over the world and It’s our favorite place ever.
