I booked Velero Beach Resort for a bachelorette weekend with my girlfriends. The resort offered a penthouse suite that was well-priced and accommodating. Upon arrival, the security guard who was posted on the street made sure we were with the hotel and then let us through. Check-in was firmly at 3 pm but we were able to go to the pool and hotel bar until we wanted to check in. The front desk attendant (Juan) was so nice and welcoming. He gave us all the info we needed and let us know we could come to him for whatever we needed. The room was so clean! I've stayed in other places where the room smells like mold and this hotel did not! The housekeeping staff were equally as nice. One morning my sister was sleeping and I asked that they not go in her room. They were so quiet that she didn't even know anyone came. We also somehow locked ourselves out of our safe. Juan sent someone up that helped us reset the safe and made sure one of us was in the room to reset the safe again, which made us feel safe. The hotel itself is located at the beginning (or end) of the main strip of Cabarete. The beach was clean and we were never bothered by vendors as the hotel beach is blocked by rocks and barricades. The beach is also safer than most other parts bc of the rock barricades, so we were able to swim carefree. We felt safe at all times. The resort also has their own bar and restaurant, which was great. The food was really good and the staff were friendly. You can also order food from the bar and bring it to the pool. Overall, Velero Beach Resort rose above our expectations and I will recommend it to anyone looking to go to Cabarete!

Restaurant staff could be rude at times, whispering and talking about guests, but given that they deal with so many difficult people all the time, I don't fault them for it at all.

The location is great. You could walk out to the street and immediately be in the thick of all the action (Cabarete is very boisterous along the street side) or you could walk back inside the resort and it was a calm, quiet retreat that felt very safe. We were there in early February and there was always room at the pool, felt like we had our own private palapa each day. The pool water was a little cold this time of year, but still swimmable. Ocean water was warm, but the waves are pretty intense in Cabarete. It didn't stop people from swimming, but mostly the bay is used for wind and kite surfing. Very fun to watch. I was pleasantly surprised by the hot water and water pressure in the bathroom at the hotel. You could definitely get a good shower, but be sure to bring your own toiletries. The wifi was also really, really good. Breakfast was pretty good, but there are better options in town. Just depends if you want free or not. Eating and drinking out adds up fast because of the high taxes, so it was nice to have the option of the free breakfast. We liked that this area was a little more of an authentic vibe, not people sequestered away inside resorts, and we could easily walk out into the town and interact with the people who call this place home.

It should be known that this isn't really an area for nightlife. Young people looking to party won't find a lot to do here. There's several lovely beach bars/restaurants, some dancing and karaoke, but the people visiting this area and this hotel were mostly 50-60+ in age and everything shut down around 10p. Also, this is not a "resort" in the way many people think of a resort. This is an older hotel/condo with one decent sized pool and one outdoor restaurant. Not really any other amenities. We thought it was charming and it suited us for this trip, but we did our research and understood what we were getting.

Well-maintained property with pleasant staff. Easy access to the beach. Central location.

I tried to contact management for months prior to the vacation. No one replied to my communication. Almost canceled my vacation because of it. Most restaurants on site were closed. Ended up just doing the buffet.

The quality of the breakfast for being free was really nice. The location was spectacular. Nothing like hanging out at the pool with the ocean crashing 10 feet away. The ability to just walk for hours on the beach without having to travel anywhere was beautiful.

Everything. Very quiet, the staff is marvelously attentive. The food is delicious from breakfast, lunch, happy hour to dinner. Exceptional stay until our encounter with a drunk long time occupant. The mattress is a bit hard and the pillows need to be replaced, and getting rid of Gregory. You can't beat the price for the location for the stay, I will not return again due to the rude occupant but the place is fabulous to stay at!

They had a long time staying customer, Gregory that was always drunk and extremely rude and obnoxious. He clearly ruined the vacation. However, the hotel did talk to the guest and he behaved until we left the facility. Clearly not a good look for the hotel. Hopefully they will get rid of such a problem occupant. The second and third floor rooms, to access you have outside spiral stairs. Great for younger adults but not for older folks. Once we changed to lower first floor room, we could walk right out to the pool area and restaurant. The 2nd and 3rd room have a fabulous huge bathroom with a fantastic shower. First floor rooms the bathroom and the room are smaller, like a regular hotel with a sofa to sit on and large fridge.

Valero Beach Resort appears to be one of the nicest in Cabarete. The Penthouse apartment was large and well equipped, the grounds were well maintained, the property is in a prime location, the resort is quiet and peaceful and the views spectacular. While not really on its own beach, it is right on the water and there is a lovely little secluded beach with a large protected tide pool immediately adjacent to it on the eastern side of the property. Cabarete beach is adjacent to the west, but was busy and not very clean during our stay. Insects were minimal and watching the kite surfers was a real treat. We were with our two grandchildren (ages 2 and 4) who were welcomed warmly and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

It can be difficult to get reservations at the resort’s restaurant where the service can be slow and the food is hit or miss (some excellent, some mediocre).

The staff were extremely helpful and nice. The place is beautiful, with a great location right on the water. The onsite restaurant (make reservations for dinner!) is lovely (outside, under cover, but the best place to watch sunsets). The bed in the room was perfect. The bathroom was big, with two sinks. We had a balcony looking out to the ocean, also great. The AC, when needed, kept the room nice and cool. They don't have their own beach, but a beautiful beach is 5 minutes walk away (with lounge chairs and umbrellas). They provide towels for the beach/pool, and replace them on request. Breakfast is included (leave a tip), the coffee was great. Side note- any place you dine, they do not rush or hover over you- the table is yours until you decide to leave.

There was nothing we didn't like, or deter us from coming back. But when booking a room, keep in mind no elevator, so a 3rd floor room (they take care of luggage) is 3 flights. Just ask when booking.

Our couples stay was terrific. The view at the pool and restaurant is magnificent - best on the entire beach. The room was super large and clean. We had a lovely few into the terrace. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was hit and miss, and it could be slow. However, there was lots of selection and we enjoyed many meals there morning and night. The hotel is located in a great spot, walking distance to the busy area on the beach but enough out of the way it’s not noisy for sleep. It was helpful to have a car to go to kite and surf beach.

We are very experienced traveller around the world. This is a really gem 10/10 resort for adults. Ocean view, quiet, sophisticated. No need to even try other restaurants in Cabarete - the food was extraordinary delicious with reasonable price, accompanied high quality live music, of which we heard saxophone player and a singer. Staff was very helpful and friendly, housekeeping very good, everything went smoothly. The garden was exceptionally taken care with different plants and grass.Oval shaped pool was deep enough to swim, with ocean view. You can fall asleep listening the vawes of Atlantic Ocean. Thank you for this memorable vacation!

The food was all very tasty. The pool was lovely and the resort was right on the water. It was a short walk (5 minutes) to the "beach" area where you could rent beach chairs and umbrellas (and order food/drinks delivered to you), OR you could put down a beach towel and enjoy the views. The local beach was very clean and safe and the water was lovely (waves weren't very big).

Sometimes the waits were long - or we had to go elsewhere (especially for dinner if no reservation was made first). The service was frequently slow, but the view (next to the ocean) made the longer waits more enjoyable. We noticed the service was slow at many restaurants we visited though. When on the beach area - be ready for the vendors to come to you... constantly. For the most part they are good when you say "no, gracias" but sometimes they try to push their wares. Bring cash for the beach things (like chairs/umbrellas/drinks/vendors), credit card security isn't very reliable with the street vendors (restaurants are fine for credit cards).
