This is a very nice and well located hotel on the Plaza de San Diego in the center of Alcala de Henares. The hotel shares the Plaza de San Diego with the University of Alcalá, formerly the Universidad Complutense. First of all, the staff at the hotel, reception, cafeteria and housekeeping are very helpful and friendly and have been with us throughout our stay. The food at the restaurant is excellent. The tables in the restaurant, some of them outside, allowed us to enjoy the historic beauty of the Plaza de San Diego in the shade of the hotel building on hot summer afternoons while sipping a refreshing summer red wine. The central location of the hotel, in the pedestrian area of the city, allowed us to explore this World Heritage City in a peaceful atmosphere. Finally, the price is very reasonable compared to the historical richness of the place.

The location is perfect for seeing the town. Close to the historic university (next door, more or less). A few minutes walk from the bus stop that connects with the Airport. Reception, breakfast and bar staff were very friendly, nothing to fault with the staff. I didn't go for the buffet breakfast, though it looked very good. I went for a coffee and some toast separately at a very reasonable price. The hotel is close to all the restaurants, bars etc. Though sitting in the hotel bar was also very pleasant.

There is nothing that I would say I didn't like.

The location of Hotel El Bedel is perfect! It is right next to the front gate of the Universidad de Alcalá, the town centre, the Christmas market, and many restaurants. In addition, I love the bath tub and the spacial room. The service of the front desk was impressive and so nice. I don't know the name of the young lady, but she speaks English pretty well and being kind offers Information.

The heater is not strong enough, but I understand it's an old hotel, and the hardware sometimes is not that satisfying but sufficient to meet the fundamentals. There's no water boiler in the room so I'd love if they have one there.

The location is superb, opening onto a beautiful square in the historic centre with the magnificent old University building right beside it. Very convenient for restaurants, shops, and other attractions. The hotel staff were very helpful, ordering taxis, giving advice and information. The rooms and decor are charmingly old-fashioned, the beds very comfortable and the air-con efficient. Our family's rooms both looked out onto the square and old University but were quiet nevertheless. Buffet breakfast was very good with a wide choice. The water cooler (with slices of fresh lemon) in reception was very popular with our group! We would love to return – when the weather is slightly cooler!!!

Breakfast coffee was from a machine and mediocre, although customers at the bar (at the same time) got it freshly made. We had one evening meal and the food was fine (if unexcptional) but was spoiled by the indifference, verging on rudeness, of the waitress on duty, in great contrast to the rest of the staff. She put us off trying eating there again. The water in the shower sometimes took 5 minutes to warm up although at other times it was scalding immediately.

One waitress in the evening was rude and unwelcoming- obviously not enjoying her jo or wanting to get away. I joined two other hotel residents in the restaurant for an evening meal. They were already at the table when I came down and she did not offer me a menu. They had to ask her to bring the amuse-buche for me which they had already been given. Her manner discouraged us from staying longer over the meal - to have a desert, and also from coming back for a meal another evening.We were sorry - all agreed that our stay was great, otherwise.

We loved the pedestrian area/college campus area which is old town and where the Hotel is located. Very nice and relaxing area outside of an incredibly busy Madrid. It’s and older property with so much personality!! Our room was quiet and we slept well on our single beds. Front desk staff was helpful and assisted in us catching the airport bus 824* to the airport. (They were naïve, however, in their beliefs that it would actually fit to the airport and 30 minutes. It takes an hour and a half.)

This is an older property with books as a theme…it’s worn in places bus there were some things that are just plain shabby and easily replaced such as our upright lamp with a torn and loose shade. The spot of blood on our curtain. The broke refrigerator in the room/replaced and still didn’t work.

The staff were well versed, the room was alway cleaned properly, restaurant facility was clean and food was good, located in a pedestrian only area where taxis had no access. Many historical sites next to the hotel to visit and explore.

The location was very central, located in one of the main squares, so it was very easy to access everywhere easily on foot. The hotel staff was welcoming. The room was large and clean. The hotel was beautifully designed with old parchments along the the hallways and the stairs. The heating was easy to adjust and effective.

There was a slight smell in the bathroom. The hotel is not soundproof, I was able to hear the guests on the other rooms and the people outside. If it was summer, lacking of a mini refrigerator would be problematic but since it wasn't that warm during my stay I haven't looked for that in the room facilities when I am booking.

Beautiful view of the plaza outside. Comfortable beds. Everything very clean. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay here again. The bar staff exceedingly amiable and gave us generous amounts of ice to take to our room.

The soundproofing not so good. You could hear showers, loos flushing and doors banging. No way to change the television programmes to original audio.

The location is amazing, exactly in the heart of the old city, with beautiful views, close to all main attractions. The hotel is nicely decorated and has a real romantic atmosphere. The room amenities were regular, a little spartan maybe. The breakfast buffet does not have too many options, but the inhouse restaurant is nice.
