The property has an excellent balance of a comfortable yet simple feel and an understated yet tasteful design. It is a calm and quiet environment, with sufficient sound insulation even towards the junction in front of the hotel. I loved to have the small Bluetooth loudspeaker provided in the room. While I found the breakfast option overpriced, they offered the simple version of a coffee and pastry, which I found reasonably priced. Check-in and check-out procedures were straightforward and courteous. The hotel's location—near the train station, on the edge of the old city center, and relative proximity to my teaching location—makes it ideal for me, and I will always prefer to choose this hotel when I visit Goettingen. The property is well-maintained, and has not felt tired for almost a decade since my first visit.

I found the mattress somewhat too soft, although still within the acceptable zone. I disliked the joined two-single bed configuration rather than a queen or king-sized bed. The cupboard door at rm 314 did not fit properly and the body wash liquid pump did not perform well, but these were minor irritations that did not include my satisfaction.

A wonderfully modern, clean and spacious room. The staff were exceptionally helpful and like everywhere in Germany were able to help a heathen like me who only speaks English. No kettle in the room for us colonialists but was able to obtain one from reception with no trouble. There is a sauna and gym facilities and I wish we had taken advantage of them. Parking in the onsite basement carpark is 14 euro per day. An unexpectedly good value stay on our travels on the Fairytale route.

Turns out there are two Freigeist hotels in Gottingen. I just searched for Freigeist in Google Maps and didn't pay attention to the address or the full name of the hotel (Nordstadt or Innenstadt). Of course, ended up at the wrong hotel first. They have a rooftop terrace that is closed in winter. It would have been nice to at least spend a couple of minutes checking out the view. Not a big issue of course.

The location of the hotel is in very close walking distance to the train station. The parking at the hotel was 19,00 - they also have several parking slots for EVs. The overall look and feel of the hotel is business oriented (co-spaces and room for work etc). My room had a lean and tech-oriented design and had enough space, which I liked - only thing missing was a desk to work, the little side table with relaxing chair in the room was nice for my video conference but didn't work well for emails. Bath with shower was clean and had everything needed. The bed was very soft, which I usually do not like, but to my surprise I slept very well. The breakfast offered had everything you typically expect and also served food for vegetarians and vegans (e.g., fresh avocado, plus the typical tomatoes etc.). Overall the 1 night stay was very good, and I will stay here again next time. Last but not least, all staff members I spoke with (desk, bar, breakfast, and housekeeping) were very kind and helpful.

I missed a real desk for doing some work in my room - everything else was really fine as mentioned in the What did I like section. Probably the idea is to work in the many different spaces the hotel offers, but that din't work very well with the work I had to finish.

I recently stayed at the Freigeist and it was a fantastic experience. The location is ideal, just a short walk from the city center, making it incredibly convenient. The staff went above and beyond – they were genuinely friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. One of the highlights was the sauna, which offers amazing views over the city, adding a relaxing and scenic touch to the experience. Breakfast was another standout; the variety and quality were excellent, with options that cater to all tastes. Highly recommended for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Göttingen.

It was very close to the train station and to the old town. There are many places to see and it is easy to find good restaurants with a short walk. The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, and staff was helpful. The price was good value and we appreciated the AC on the very hot days we visited.

No coffee machine in the room, but this was minor because there was good coffee a few minutes walk away. (We didn't try the restaurant there. Maybe there was no coffee machine in the room because there is a restaurant in the building).

So new with an awareness of the old city as well. The rooms were clean and large with tall windows. The attitude was easy going and efficient. Guests are greeted with alcohol free drinks or wine in the afternoon. I had a very early train and had already paid for breakfast and they sent me off in the morning with a bag lunch with two sandwiches, water , apples and a granola bar.

The outdoor area and rooftop didn’t seem to have dining or drinks available. Another casual lunch area or picnic offerings to eat there would be nice.

Great location right at the train station. The rooms are clean, bright and spacious. The shower was nice and hot with good water pressure. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The bar was great.

The showers don't have a thermostat and change their temperatures quite suddenly I suspect when another room is using hot water as well. As a result it sometimes gets too hot quite quickly and you almost need to jump out of the water stream. Adding a thermostat to every shower would be a big upgrade. Also I hit my head twice on the small concrete hanging lamp next to the toilet. It really shouldn't be there. The mattresses are too soft and if I had to sleep on them for more than two nights I'd get back pain eventually. I also wish there were true double beds and not just two singles with a bridge in the middle. Same goes for blankets, which are separate.

Our stay at FREIGEIST was excellent! The staff was friendly and very helpful, always smiling yet professional, the interior design of the hotel and the rooms was very interesting: minimal with artistic influences. The breakfast was amazing with a large variety of fresh fruit, bread, salmon, etc. The rooms and the hotel super clean. Everything was excellent with even more highlights in the details. For example the luxurious bathgel and shampoo and the amazingly comfortable beds. We really enjoyed a stay and will definitely come again.

We love this hotel. We stay here as a stopping point every time we are driving to our far north destination. As dog parents, we are amazed that the hotel provides us with dog beds, bowls, and special treats for each of our fur babies. The restaurant at the hotel serves fabulous dishes and the wine pairings are delicious. At check-in, the staff gives guests a lovely glass of wine and a warm welcome to the hotel. The rooms are nicely furnished, not large, but perfect for our needs. —No carpet! Also, the hotel is right next to the train/bus station, which is so convenient for travelers (although we have not used the trains or buses.) Already looking forward to our next visit. 😁

Location was very good, about a 3-5 minute walk to the train station, plus just a few minutes to Old Town shops.

There was no English-language television whatsoever. When though all signage and written communication were in German and English, not the television. Aldo, the buffet breakfast was expensive: 29€ per person.
