Beautiful place, well managed property, clean, spacious. Very quiet even though it is quite central. 3 mins walk from the Mall road. Rooms have all you need for a comfortable stay. Room service is quick. And the food is outstanding! Breakfast was quite varied every day with the same options of bacon, sausages and ham for non-veg, and loads of veg options. Eggs are available too. Yummy desserts, lots of fresh fruit. And we really enjoyed the tea time! Staff recommended some of teas to try, and we loved them! Prompt service by all staff, really cannot complement everyone enough. So smooth from check in to departure. We truly enjoyed our stay!

Menu had a huge variety of wine, however, more than half was not available. Either you review the list, or add everything that's mentioned there. It's a heritage hotel so no elevators, quite hard to walk for people with mobility issues There is no view from the window- all you see is another building or road. Probably only a few rooms would have a great view

Location was good, close to city center. Our room which was changed on 6th May had good view of the valley. Staff was smiling and helpful. Check out was smooth. Breakfast was good and served on time.

Only 6 or 8 rooms have a view of the valley. Their claim on the Booking.com site that the rooms have a mountain view is false. Mountain view (i.e. Kanchenjunga view) is not available in any hotel this side of the town. Hotel space was quite limited, rooms were just about okay. Climbing up and down the stairs several times a day was a big pain. Food was good, but very costly, even compared to the best restaurants in the mall.

Excellent ambience, colonial furniture, pictures, lounge areas. Good bar (thanks Prassad) at reasonable prices, good beer (Kingfisher). Good buffet breakfast with egg station included in the booking, great coffee! Dinner was not included in my booking but happy with ala carte and prices, although the buffet looked good. Had Indian food mostly and it was excellent, although not spicy enough for my taste. Snacks and beer during the day were good also. Room was nice and spacious, comfy bed and good hot water from the shower. Filtered and UV treated waster was a bonus.

This was our second visit to The Elgin and this time we stayed in the heritage section of the hotel. The colonial era facilities were above expectations with lovely teak flooring and furnishings. Our room was conveniently located near the dining room, lounge area and reception. There was a wide variety of food and excellent service in the dining room. The hotel is centrally located, in walking distance from many of the main attractions and very secure. the staff went out of their way to help us at all times. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will hopefully return.

Excellent service from all the cheerful staff.From moment of arrival gave welcome. They met every need keeping us safe and relaxed. Food very good .The dining room ambience was sophisticed and gave great sense of well being. No view of Mountains but good position within Darjeeling. Would recommend to everyone.

The heating of room and hotel was poor but hot water bottles brought smiles to our faces and coal fire in lounge was a bonus

The Elgin has been restored to a beautiful elegance reflecting it's past but with clean, modern facilities. The staff all have a natural charm as well as apparent good training. The meals are served buffet style in an elegant dining room with a strong influence of Indian and Nepalese tastes but with some western meals available if preferred.

Extremely helpful staff both inside and outside the hotel. A good selection of food choices. Very traditional and comfortable interior. Good selection of complimentary toiletries and the bed was very comfortable.

Construction work taking place next to the hotel, however staff were able to move me to another room to minimise the noise. Hotel looks tired in some places.

Nothing! Some rooms require a lot of stairs with no elevator on site, awareness of this on booking page would be useful. Staff kindly relocated us when couldn't manage multiple stairs.

The location is good and short walk to the city centre. The staff is extremely helpful. We booked our airport cabs also via the hotel and it was a good experience. One of the receptionist's father was our cab driver for sight seeing (WagonR no 5153). I was traveling with my daughter and uncle was a supersafe and very helpful driver. The hotel does not serve water in plastic packaged water bottles which I loved. You get the Darjeeling valley view from the room. I loved the well-maintained colonial architecture of the hotel since the British Era. No lift only stairs, wooden floors, a vintage lobby and an old colonial post box at the entrance just added to the charm. Their breakfast staff is very patient as we saw a family driving them nuts every morning with their constant follow-up on their orders (literally every 30 secs) yet the staff would keep working and meet their demands.

Being from Mumbai I was hoping to eat some local fish but all the fish in the menu was only basa fish. Also some local dish of Darjeeling should be added for tourists who want to taste authentic culture... although we did that outside then :) as such no complaints.
