This is a wonderful stay, the manager was very kind. The room didn’t disappoint with the standard ‘million light switches’ to fathom out- so common in India. The room was very, very nice and we loved the wrap around Veranda. (never saw the bath robes and the toiletries turnedout to be ‘leftovers’ plus the standard bar of green soap) Went out kayaking with a guide from the hotel which was fabulous. Food is available at the hotel which is reasonably priced. But delivered at a glacial pace. We stayed for four days which was probably too long.

Well, not withstanding the fact that we wondered why we had come to the Island at all…..there is nothing here and given that we were off to Alleppy straight afterwards (station is 9 mins walk away and the ticket is 20p, it takes two hours)….there wasn’t really anything to moan about. However, there is some building work going on. When the listing says the property has a pool, you’ll know they’ve finished

1 The resort is in the village neighborhood and so you get to see the villagers' daily lives at the island 2 The resort is built in traditional Keralan architectural style and it is very beautiful at night 3 Mr Shivan and staffs are attentive and welcoming. You get to order local cuisine at the hotel which is very convenient especially for dinner where the island gets very dark. I had the Karimeen and it was delicious 4 There are many activities you can choose from. I went for kayaking in the canals. It was quite challenging as the canals are narrow and there are many low bridges and other canoes plying the waters. But I had a lot of fun.

The roads leading to the resort are not tarred and not car-conducive. The best way to come here is by train stopping at Munroturuttu.

We had an amazing stay here! The rooms and clean and cool, the breakfast was also filling and tasty. They organised an evening canoe tour for us as well as lending us their kayaks in the morning to explore the island. The best part of our trip, however, was the fishing trip the owner organised for us. The usual fisherman they use was away so he went out of his way to organise the trip with two other local fishermen. It was really fun and we had fresh mangoes whilst spending many hours in the river exploring. I would defo recommend this place to anyone!

Sivan the manager and his staff did everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible! The dinner at the hotel was delicious. It’s an old Kerala house that has been totally renovated so the main building is actually very charming. They are building, so in a year or too it will be much bigger.

Only things I would have liked was a shower screen or curtain, despite rooms being modern - bathroom has Indian style open shower. Also tea/coffee making facilities would be a nice touch as breakfast is served from 0830.

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kalloos Island Backwater Resort, and it was an experience we'll cherish. The hotel is quite new, and we had the unique opportunity to be among the first guests to enjoy some of its facilities. What struck us immediately was the attention to detail in the hotel's finishes, which exuded a sense of luxury and comfort. The food was a highlight of our stay – simply outstanding. We recommend asking for recommendations to savor the local dishes and the freshest seafood. It's a culinary journey you wouldn't want to miss! Having traveled around India for over a month, we can confidently say that Kalloos Island Backwater Resort stands out in terms of price-quality ratio. It's definitely one of the better places we've stayed in. The host deserves a special mention for their exceptional service. They were always on hand to ensure we were well taken care of and made us feel incredibly welcomed. The host went above and beyond by arranging sunset and sunrise boat tours, and we even enjoyed kayaking. The convenience of setting off right from the property's gate was a fantastic bonus. In summary, our stay at Kalloos Island Backwater Resort was nothing short of wonderful. It’s a place we would eagerly return to and highly recommend to others looking for a luxurious and comfortable stay with a touch of adventure.

We had a great experience—good service, good food, and a comfortable stay. The highlight of our trip was the early morning sunrise boating that they arranged for us. We enjoyed the peaceful ride for about two hours, and it was truly memorable. Also, we had mistakenly left our ID proofs at the office, but the manager promptly contacted us when he found them and couriered them to us without any delay. We’ve received them now—really appreciate the honest and efficient service!

The property is by gar rhe best Ive come across till date. The staff contacted me,gave me location and enquires our meals prederences even before wecojld check in. The ataff made our stay very comfortable and made us feel ar home. Their behaviour and eagerness to make our aty comfortable gives this property full marks. The room was spic and span, the linen clean ans fresh, the toileteries very frugl yet of good quality. We will be staying here whenevwr we come to Monroe Island Backwaters. Special thanks to Mr Sivan, Mr Kuttan, the cheff and other support staff. Cheers and well done. Please keep up the good work, it made our head rise up in awe and respect to the Property owner.

The approach from main road needs sign postings to help out of Kollam visitors.

The food! It is just brilliant. The clams fry and the prawns roast were among the best Indian dishes I've ever had. In the mornings the local fishermen pull up in their canoes in the canal just outside the window and the chef buys what's fresh and good for dinner so availability differs from day to day. It is lovely to sit on the balcony and eat, looking out over a small canal. We rented one of the kayaks, they have a 1, 2 and 3 seater kayak. Though we got quite lost in the network of canals, this was one of the highlights of our Indian holiday. We saw kingfishers, egrets, brahminy kites and loads of other birds as well as lots of fish jumping out of the water and 2 different small kinds of snakes swimming. Everyone working at Kalloos Island is very friendly and efficient and communication via WhatsApp before arrival was great.

We did a canoe trip and we really enjoyed it. However for the sunrise trip there were quite a few other canoes, especially at the mangrove tunnel, and we were there in low season in March. If you want the place a bit more to yourself I would suggest going out after everyone returns from the sunrise trip at 8:30 even though it will be a bit hotter. It would be great if they offered a canoe trip looking at birds.

We came for my birthday and it was absolutely lovely. The food was phenomenal and the even made me a local Keralan style cake on my wife’s request! We also did a boat ride around the backwaters which was great fun. So good, would absolutely recommend.

Everything about the property was excellent, but there’s not much else around - we were disappointed by the other restaurants in the area.

Located on the Monroe Island, right on the boating canals that lead to the Ashtamudi lake. I really enjoyed the stay, the bost ride, the friendliness of the staff and the amazing lady who prepared the most delicious Kerala cuisine. It was like staying with a family. They took the extra mile to make it a memorable stay, leaving me a bit sad on leaving. Heartily recommend!
