The location was stunning with fantastic views of the peninsula and atlantic ocean from the lounge. The host Alan was very friendly and an encyclopedia on local knowledge. The cup of tea and cake on arrival was both a surprize and welcome. Don't expect modern at this property but you will feel homely.
I enjoyed my stay and if I was being over observant I'd say that the en-suite was too compact, certainly for us who are both tall. The room itself was large. The tv was postage stamp size, so wouldn't encourage watchers. We had to leave before breakfast so didnt have one. The host did offer to get up early but we declined.

The location was stunning. Alan, the host, was very welcoming and great craic. Loads of nice little touches such as the sunset time so we could make sure we didn't miss it. Blankets were provided to be able to sit out and watch the sunset on the balcony. Tea and coffee facilities are in the room and way above and beyond on the toiletries. Q tips, sanitary pads, wipes etc. Obviously had guest comfort in mind. Lovely breakfast in the morning to set you up for the day. Thank you so much Alan and it was lovely staying with you! Couldn't recommend enough.
Absolutely nothing!

We were greeted at the BnB with an open door and note on the counter letting us know that our host had gone for swim. This set the stage for our fun, but too short stay. We had read about Alan's quick wit and we were looking forward to some friendly banter, but he had plans for the evening and wasn't around to entertain, which is fine, he needs some fun time too :). The views from the back deck were stunning, and Alan even set out some blankets for guests to use while sitting there, which we definitely did.
Our guest room, while being rather large, was outfitted at the bare minimum. The bathroom, in contrast, was tiny and boasted just a small shower.

The view from our room was simply spectacular. A look out on to the wind swept Atlantic and the lighthouse protecting the inlet. By opening the window just a bit, you could have as much breeze as you wanted. I wish I had that view everyday of my life. We were close to the ferry at the end of Valentia Island, which cut out Portmagee altogether if desired on travel day. The owner used to be a fisherman and I enjoyed hearing some of his tales from yesteryear given my own travels fishing the seven seas.
It was about a 15 minute drive to the town of Portmagee in case you are getting up early to go to Skellig Michael, but short of that, how could one complain? Certainly not the fault of Horizon, but my hopeful trip to climb SM was blown out although they told me that only 5 of 31 days in August were they able to land on the island (not good for the boat ferry service business).

The room was very clean, with crisp white bedding and bed throw on a comfy king-size bed. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer with a diffuser. The bathroom had plenty of lovely white towels, complimentary washing gels and shampoo, etc.. The view over the water from the bedroom window to Valentia Lighthouse was fabulous, and waking up to the view in the morning with the blind open was a dream. The room had a dressing table where the tea and coffee making were, 2 bedside lockers and a wardrobe. More than adequate space for our 5 night stay. Alan welcomed us and escorted us to our room before bringing us tea, coffee, and a couple of biscuit bars each. We had plenty of wonderful breakfasts, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, and cooked full Irish breakfast if you wanted, along with tea or coffee. This is a dog friendly bed and breakfast, which to us was important as we wanted our little dog to come on holiday with us. What Alan has here is a very relaxing and friendly atmospheric bed and breakfast. A hotel would not have the view over the lighthouse or the personal attention and hospitality he gives all of his guests. Thankyou Alan for our stay in Horizon View, and the advice of places to explore on the island and locality. It's a holiday, Esther and I will treasure.

We were so happy with our choice to stay in Alan's B+B on Valentia Island. Alan is a very nice and funny guy. He welcomed us super nice. His home has an amazing view of Light House with sunset. I was praying to see some dolphins and I was lucky to see one in the morning from our room when I opened the windows. Breakfast was very nice and fresh. Our room was big enough with a big bed and bathroom all we needed plus some important needs for women. You can enjoy sitting on the terrace and if you wanna be more cozy you can use a blanket already prepared on the bench, and his cat will come to give you some cuddles. He even helped us to book a Skellig boat trip in the morning. I can highly recommend his accommodation and his services.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Room was spacious and clean, had several outlets( which we found NOT be a case in many B&Bs). Views from the balcony were amazing overlooking the ocean. Large common room and balcony for everyone to use. We were greeted with coffee/ tea. Host was friendly and helpful( set us up with dinner reservation at the local restaurant). Plenty of parking space. Also , super friendly dog and cat on site:)
wifi signal in the room was weak( but great in the lounge area). Just fyi, full Irish breakfast was 5€ per person (which is still a good deal) but we found that most places on booking.com tell you in advance if full breakfast is not included.

The view was to die for. A lot of tourists thought it was the most beautiful place on earth. It made me very proud to be Irish. The breakfast was superb because the chef provided me with lots of gluten free options as I am a coeliac
I could not fault it in any way. I commented on how laid back it was; people trusted each other and there was no stress or formality- it was a brilliant home away from home. Absolutely amazing

We had an unforgettable stay thanks to the incredible warmth and hospitality of the host. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. The human touch and kindness made all the difference. And the views—absolutely breathtaking. Without a doubt, the most stunning scenery we’ve seen anywhere in the country. Highly recommended!

The view is spectacular; it is unparalleled in my experience. Everything else felt of secondary importance. Nonetheless, Alan and his border collie, George, are excellent hosts who make you feel welcome. Apart from the sound from an occasional gust of a force nine gale, the rooms are quiet and comfortable. The breakfast is first-rate.
We should have stayed longer. make sure you book for more than a night.
