Gubbio is a delightful medieval town. What a treat to stay in part of the Ducal palace right on the dramatic main piazza! The staff were excellent-so friendly and helpful. Our room had a fabulous view of the piazza and the Umbrian hills. The palace is very old so rooms are on various levels with various elevators plus some stairs in places. It makes for an adventure to find your room! The breakfast was good with eggs, yogurt, cheeses, cold meats, fruit and many sweets. There is a small bar both inside and outside on the piazza in nice weather. There are two lovely large gardens on different levels in the hotel. Close to lots of restaurants, shops etc.

Excellent location on the Piazza with a cute cafe for breakfast, a cappuccino or wine. The room was nicely appointed and spacious. Rustic furnishings but very nice. The balcony of our room was amazing (Room 402). Unexpected and lovely with views of Gubbio. Highly recommend it. The staff was so incredibly friendly and accommodating.

The shower barely worked; it was a trickle of hot water and then on day two the bathroom completely flooded. They did re-silicone the shower at our request but the water pressure did not improve.

Relais Ducale Our bags were taken to our room (to our surprise) via stairs and elevator. Our room was spacious, always warm & looked out at the hotel’s back garden. We had a comfortable bed, plenty of storage & a basic bath. We were also provided with history of the local area. The staff was a well oiled team, helpful and accommodating. The hotel’s entrance was across from Palazzo dei Consoli & Piazza Grande. Along the street we found many ceramic artist’s shops, featuring hand painted majolica, to our delight! Near by you can take an elevator to Cattedrale dei Santi Mariano e Giacomo. Gubbio is definitely a serious hill town and we stayed at the very top of it. We were directed by the hotel to park at the Funivia Parcheggio lower level and it was free! Later that day we took the very unique Funivia Colle Eletto up the hill to the Basilica of Saint Ubaldo. Highly recommended! Another hotel detail is that it was were the TV series Don Matteo was filmed for Italian TV’s Rai Uno. The Hotel has the chess table set up outside the hotel's entrance with Don Matteo's beret and the police inspector's hat. Don Matteo (English: Father Matthew) is an Italian television series that has been airing on Rai 1, Italian national television's first channel, since 2000. The protagonist of the series is Father Matteo (portrayed by Terence Hill), a Catholic priest in a parish of the town of Gubbio, Perugia. He is also known for his unrivaled talent in investigating local crime stories. Father Matteo is a wise and respected person who really manages to understand people's problems, and always appears to be willing to help. Thanks to his charm and positivity, he often helps criminals on their way to redemption and he always convinces them to confess their crimes and to accept their responsibilities.

I love the Relais Ducale - obviously its location in Gubbio is unbeatable, especially the rooms like mine with sweeping views of the old city. The rooms are a bit old fashioned but comfortable and attractive nonetheless. The staff are always charming and helpful. The building is fascinating with its multiple gardens on multiple levels. The connections to a famous Italian TV detective series, which was at one time filmed around here, are amusing. There is some bar food, and no restaurant, but the hotel has two sister restaurants not far away, both brilliant, albeit fairly expensive. Breakfast on the square outside in summer is a treat like no other; but the inside breakfast room is fine & characterful too. Breakfast itself is good Italian basic, no frills but fine.

Getting to the hotel in a car can be very tricky especially on market days when many streets are blocked off. If you can't find the way, be prepared to head for the car park at the funicular station instead. You can park in the lower level here for free as a hotel guest - just give the receptionist your vehicle registration number. You will probably have to walk your luggage along cobbled streets (a few slight hills) for about 10-20 minutes to the hotel. There is sometimes a shuttle bus though from the archway near the car park. Read the instructions carefully that the hotel will send you via Booking.com, just in case.

Absolutely stunning location and wonderful views. Loved it and can't wait to go back. Such an interesting and idiosyncratic building, great fun to explore, super staff, in a really lovely town. Parking is not easy - we parked outside the city walls and walked, but being a hotel guest effectively gets you a night's parking permit within the town, if you dare to negotiate the medieval maze of streets!

The village clock chimed every 15 minutes throughout the night: if this is going to disturb you, bring ear plugs. I put the aircon on at 7am and the white noise from that drowned out the clock noise though, so this is also a useful tip!

One of a kind property, lovely courtyards, great view. Hard working staff, and a good breakfast included. I had a back flare up on the date of our planned departure, and was unable to drive. The staff were able to extend our stay another night. The location was great!

There are a lot of stairs to reach the check-in from the street level. From there, an elevator was available. Be prepared for the bell tower in the piazza to chime every 15 mins. ;) Driving in Gubbio is not for the faint of heart! Free parking was available, but was a bit of a walk to reach.

This is a strikingly attractive hotel in the centre of Gubbio with several well kept and attractive gardens at different levels. The view from our balcony was magnificent and the room itself was very well furnished. The staff were without exception helpful and efficient.

The bathroom was attractive to look at but the old-fashioned shower in the bath did not work as well as it should have done. Breakfast on the balcony was very pleasant, but the coffee was tepid and bitter and the pastries were not particularly tasty.

Charming family run property in enchanting Gubbio. Loved staying at this historical hotel amidst narrow medieval streets. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. You will feel like you are in a storybook - so many beautiful gardens and terraces. I really did not want to leave!

A/C did not work in one of our rooms unfortunately. We had second breakfast seating and many items had been picked over and were not replenished.

Everything in this hotel is wonderful - beautiful room well heated and great bed. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is a warm atmosphere throughout.

There is nothing to dislike . We were completely happy with our stay.

Great location, clean and comfortable property in lovely Gubbio. Great breakfast too. Staff on duty during day time hours were lovely and very helpful.

After hours access not explained & all four of us had a problem in accessing to the hotel after 20 pm due to a difficult male staff person on duty after hours.
