Staying here was such a cool experience! Truly felt like you were tucked away in an unexplored and peaceful area of Tuscany and you could really feel the history of this building. Views were absolutely stunning. We even went on a private wine cellar tour (with a delicious wine tasting) with the owner of the hotel which was so interesting, highly recommend opting for that experience! He was very informative and friendly and even took care of us at dinner that night- the hotel restaurant was fantastic. Also recommend finding the Etruscan Cut trails nearby and walking through those, that was a highlight of our trip. Such a great stay!

Exceptional place, great view, kind staff and a historic fortress. This really was an outstanding experience and we've quite been around. Sorano is lovely, the fortress sitting ontop and you feel like Orsini himself ( at least from the point of accomodation ;) ). Breakfast was well equipped and don't miss to have dinner in the hotel restaurant. For english speaking guests (i.e. non italian speakers): there is a tour in english through the fortress saturday and sunday morning organized by the fortress museum. It's really interesting and you shouldn't miss it as well!

A visit to Sorano and fortress is a unique experience. I have not stayed in a similar hotel before and found it a worthwhile and interesting adventure. Our room was spacious with a view of the town of Sorano and the river. The fortress itself is impressive, but our room was a bit cold and lacked soft furniture to make it cozier and more welcoming Breakfast was good but had limited choices.

The public areas in the fortress part of the hotel should be more presentable - soft lighting etc.. When we arrived on an overcast day at around 18h00, no lights were switched on in the hallways and it gave the fortress a very cold forbidding appearance.

The building is amazing as well as the city. The staff recommend a super restaurant to us. The room is tiny but the bed was good. To get to the room is through small stairways but that contributes to the experience at this location. Bathroom got all that you want with a good rain shower and normal shower. To get to the city is by a quite steep stairs. Not really recommended is you are not in the best health. There was a 15 euro charge for our dog which was more then usual and for the tiny room to much money. The reason they gave was because they had to use other products. You can give that a thought.

What can I say we had a fabulous time at Hotel Della Fortezza. All our communication with the hotel prior to our visit was clear and friendly. Upon arrival we were greeted with kindness. The view of the countryside from our room was fabulous, better than anticipated. The bedroom was of a good size and the bed was so comfortable. I loved the blinds and overslept due to the lack of light :) Breakfast was great value, all the food was delicious. The staff were so kind and friendly and so knowledgeable about their fabulous wine and beer - we will be back.

The place is absolutely amazing. Located in the tiny village in the less touristic part of Tuscany, the 11th century fortress offers a truly unique experience. The staff is lovely and the owners are super passionate about what they're doing. I would recommend joining some of the attractions organised by the hotel - we joined for a cellar tour with wine & cheese tasting and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had a room with a city view and it was truly unmatched - I would absolutely recommend getting a room with a view as it was one of the biggest highlights of the stay. The room itself was nice, albeit a bit small but this is to be expected considering how old (authentic!) the place is. Breakfast was nice and relatively varied for the Italian standards. To sum up, if you're looking for a romantic getaway or a calm weekend by yourself, please do yourself a favour and book this hotel! You won't regret it!

This is not really a complaint, but please consider the timing of your visit as the rooms can get pretty hot (no AC).

This historic clifftop setting of an ancient military fortress left us awestruck. Our bedroom was pleasant, comfortable, spotlessly clean and afforded amazing views over the ancient and picturesque Etruscan town of Sorano far below. The free parking close to the hotel was a great relief after the severe traffic congestion in Tuscany this September. The breakfast buffet was varied, generous and high quality. The undisputed highlight of our stay was meeting our host Sylvia. She was unfailingly warm, friendly, helpful,knowledgeable and approachable and did her utmost to make our stay a happy one. She clearly has a deep passion for the town's Etruscan heritage and enthused us to the point where we stayed a second night to allow further exploration of the area. A truly great experience. A truly wonderful host.

One of the owners upgraded us to a suite and the view down the valley was magical. It was such a nice surprise. The room itself was so pretty and clean. The breakfast was divine with fresh local products, easily the best we had during our 2 weeks in Italy. We also really enjoyed the wine tasting tour they organized for us and another couple in the castle. Sorano itself is a small medieval village in Tuscany far from mass tourism and staying at Hotel Della Fortezza is absolutely worth the detour. We also loved visiting Pitignano nearby, another breathtaking small medieval village.

Our experience with Hotel Della Fortezza was a dream as soon as we walked into the reception to check in. The woman (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) who checked us in was incredibly helpful and offered up knowledge about Sorano, as well as the surrounding towns. She was such a breath of fresh air after a long trip in. Our room was even better than I was expecting with incredible views of Sorano below. The breakfast in the morning was very good value for the 9€/person and had very high quality food on offer. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Oh my goodness where do I start?! We were a family of 5 plus 1 couple. The hotel is located inside a castle with beautiful rooms which have breathtaking views over the whole town! The rooms were super clean and very comfortable - breakfast was wonderful too! Only a 2 minute walk and you are in the centre of town with amazing restaurants (fresh Italian pizzas only 5 euros) and gorgeous tiny streets to wander through. The staff were very helpful and friendly too. Plenty of things to do and see in the area. We only stayed 1 night but wished we stayed longer!!!!
