Staying here was such a cool experience! Truly felt like you were tucked away in an unexplored and peaceful area of Tuscany and you could really feel the history of this building. Views were absolutely stunning. We even went on a private wine cellar tour (with a delicious wine tasting) with the owner of the hotel which was so interesting, highly recommend opting for that experience! He was very informative and friendly and even took care of us at dinner that night- the hotel restaurant was fantastic. Also recommend finding the Etruscan Cut trails nearby and walking through those, that was a highlight of our trip. Such a great stay!

This is an exceptional place. The sunset view is stunning, the town is well worth exploring. Dinner was fabulous, beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Breakfast was also full of choice. The owners have done a great job converting the castle into a comfortable hotel and looking after their guests.

The bathroom was great. Loved the steps up to the shower however the steps on entering the room to reach the bed and the size of the bedroom were quite small. It was part of the charm of staying in a castle but would be challenging if you had mobility issues. I imagine every room is different but worth mentioning when booking if this is important to you.

Amazing stay in a historic castle. Rooms are small but modern and very comfortable with breathtaking views of the town. The decently sized bathroom was clean with new appliances. In the evenings (5-8pm) cocktails are served in the castle's courtyard which adds some great atmosphere.

We would have had dinner at the hotel, but dinner was served in the breakfast room which has absolutely no ambiance. We were told that during the summer months dinner is served in the courtyard which we would have loved. Fortunately, there are a couple good restaurants in town.

I have nothing but praise for this place. We chose it because it was on the way of our traveling route down south. We wanter to visit Saturnia and this place was close enough to spend the night. And honestly I liked what I saw on pictures. I could not be more right. It looks even better alive. It is a true fortress, and rooms are authentic with some modern parts. At least our room was. Very large with a huge fireplace(no fire in the summer), old furniture, bed was fantastic (and I never say that because I got back problems), not to mention breakfast. Superb. Huge choice of dishes with some special delicacies. Last but not least, superb stuff, I would specially like to thank Silvia, who was extra nice and flexible, to helped us get in to our room way past closing time.

Exceptional place, great view, kind staff and a historic fortress. This really was an outstanding experience and we've quite been around. Sorano is lovely, the fortress sitting ontop and you feel like Orsini himself ( at least from the point of accomodation ;) ). Breakfast was well equipped and don't miss to have dinner in the hotel restaurant. For english speaking guests (i.e. non italian speakers): there is a tour in english through the fortress saturday and sunday morning organized by the fortress museum. It's really interesting and you shouldn't miss it as well!

A visit to Sorano and fortress is a unique experience. I have not stayed in a similar hotel before and found it a worthwhile and interesting adventure. Our room was spacious with a view of the town of Sorano and the river. The fortress itself is impressive, but our room was a bit cold and lacked soft furniture to make it cozier and more welcoming Breakfast was good but had limited choices.

The public areas in the fortress part of the hotel should be more presentable - soft lighting etc.. When we arrived on an overcast day at around 18h00, no lights were switched on in the hallways and it gave the fortress a very cold forbidding appearance.

The building is amazing as well as the city. The staff recommend a super restaurant to us. The room is tiny but the bed was good. To get to the room is through small stairways but that contributes to the experience at this location. Bathroom got all that you want with a good rain shower and normal shower. To get to the city is by a quite steep stairs. Not really recommended is you are not in the best health. There was a 15 euro charge for our dog which was more then usual and for the tiny room to much money. The reason they gave was because they had to use other products. You can give that a thought.

We had a wonderful stay here as usual (we've been coming for years) but what made it even more special than usual is that were pleasantly surprised to find we had been given a room upgrade to the tower suite. It was a beautiful, very quirky but spacious and unusual room which was right up our street. This extra special touch and attention really made our short trip memorable. The staff are fantastic and the evening meal we had outside on the terrace and the breakfast inside were spectacular as usual. Complimenti!!

What can I say we had a fabulous time at Hotel Della Fortezza. All our communication with the hotel prior to our visit was clear and friendly. Upon arrival we were greeted with kindness. The view of the countryside from our room was fabulous, better than anticipated. The bedroom was of a good size and the bed was so comfortable. I loved the blinds and overslept due to the lack of light :) Breakfast was great value, all the food was delicious. The staff were so kind and friendly and so knowledgeable about their fabulous wine and beer - we will be back.

The place is absolutely amazing. Located in the tiny village in the less touristic part of Tuscany, the 11th century fortress offers a truly unique experience. The staff is lovely and the owners are super passionate about what they're doing. I would recommend joining some of the attractions organised by the hotel - we joined for a cellar tour with wine & cheese tasting and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had a room with a city view and it was truly unmatched - I would absolutely recommend getting a room with a view as it was one of the biggest highlights of the stay. The room itself was nice, albeit a bit small but this is to be expected considering how old (authentic!) the place is. Breakfast was nice and relatively varied for the Italian standards. To sum up, if you're looking for a romantic getaway or a calm weekend by yourself, please do yourself a favour and book this hotel! You won't regret it!

This is not really a complaint, but please consider the timing of your visit as the rooms can get pretty hot (no AC).
