This is overall an excellent resort. The resort included public and private on-sens, as well as in-room on sen that was well set up and intimate. the 15+ course Teishoku dinner included in your package is simply stunning and well thought through. The winter view out of the room was breathtaking as well.

For what you are paying, it was very disappointing the many 'sloppy' little things that just wasn't quite right. In the restaurant I would expect real chopsticks and cups instead of the disposable type served, really not befitting a resort of this calibre. It appears customary that guests are only usually offered one pillow each in the room. When I asked the night manager for a second pillow I was simply told there wasn't one available, without any explanation or apologies. It is difficult for me to simply accept that in a hotel of this size (of any size really) there would be NO spare pillow anywhere.

Dinner was superb, the view from the room was wonderful! The large viewing platform within the room enabled us to appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Akan without taking a single step out from the hotel. Onsen was therapeutic, with the option of having private/public bath. Room tubs were also connected to the onsen source, one of the few rare accoms that provides u with the chance to have an onsen in your own room!

The furniture were dated and the bed was placed in a deep alcove within the room, air circulation was not the best. Location is around a 10min drive from Lake Akan town.

The breakfast each day was different and very delicious. We loved being served which made it very relaxing, and the overall atmosphere in the breakfast area was very serene. Views out to the river were spectacular. We particularly loved our room which looked out onto the river. This hotel was one I didn't want to leave as I just wanted to soak up the relaxation. The hotel was a lovely size and I loved all the treats that were available throughout our stay like the icecream, evening snacks in the foyer and drinks. Loved being in the middle of the forest beside that gorgeous river.

View from the room! Serene environment. Very good and considerate service! They know my husbands leg was not good and they always prepared the easiest accessible seat in the restaurant for our meal. Private onsen, public onsen, onsen in the room was great!!

Meal was not as good. It’s like fine dining style They like to use the mini solid fuel that doesn’t last very long. Second night was supposed to be hot pebble grill but before I could cook my meat properly the solid fuel ran out May be I could have asked for more. You get to choose either seafood or meat. I chose meat but the taste and amount of meat was also underwhelming. Seafood choice was better if u like seafood.

Overall stay was excellent. Loved the river views, onsen and meals. A great spot for a one night stay between Lake Toya & Shiretoko. Nice to have wild deer grazing outside in evening and even spotted a fox by the river.

We booked Deluxe Riverside Double but were originally allocated a riverside room with an obstructed view (room 2104 by onsen roof below) which was really disappointing given high price of the hotel. Luckily it was quickly sorted and we could move to a more suitable alternative at 2107 which was riverside Twin with beds pushed together. Best avoid rooms 2101, 2102, 2103 & 2104 - you will be disappointed by obstructed outlook!

Perfectly situated in the tranquil banks of the Akan River away from the most touristy lodgings by the lake. In room bath is a bonus for those crowd adverse even if it was a bit tiny for anyone above 6ft. Riverview rooms is a must! How can you travel all the way here to scrimp a few dollars but sacrifice the wondrous experience living by a flowing river? Sumptuous spread of food despite some of the negative reviews - only meal that could do better was dinner from the first night (sorry you one-nighters). Stayed a total of 3 nights and the food thereafter is nowhere inferior to ryokans elsewhere.

The rooms are already set to heating even though it was a hotter than usual autumn, you can see that this place is going to be so cosy in the deep of the winter. Driving is a must to get here but it is very much worth it.

The hotel was a pleasure to come back to in the evenings after a full days' worth of activities and driving around the surrounding great lakes. The river that runs by the hotel makes the vibe especially relaxing in the lobby and we were lucky enough on one of the night's during our stay to have seen a whole family of deer relaxing on the lawn. The room we got was river facing as well, and was large, clean and well air-conditioned though a bit dimly lit at night. We visited in late July 2024, so it wasn't too hot in the day time either. Location was very good if you have a car to get around in.

The only let down was the quality of food. Though the amount of food served was more than enough, and the set menu changed daily, some dishes were rather disappointing. Overall, the food is OK as long as you don't set your expectations too high but rest assured you will not go hungry. Staff were helpful enough when it came to overcoming the language barrier in terms of our dietary requests. However, please make sure to be clear about any dietary concerns ahead of your stay if any as not all staff will be able to understand your needs in the moment.

We stayed at the room with river view which looked astonishingly nice at the sunset. Forest behind the river glittered in fluorescent blue green under shadow cast by sunset and with river reflecting it made a whole view more than just a scenic. A private hot tub in our room with the window view of the forest was something, something that you can not taste just by reading comment. For the breakfast, we chose Japanese style breakfast. They were authentic and even offered more small plate choices called "okokoro ma de" which you could possibly choose as many as you want. My wife and I was very pleased by their hospitality.

When we checked in, we are assigned with trainee... so it was not as smooth as it should be from the point of my experience and expectation for its price rage. trainee was polite, nothing wrong with him but it was a bit annoying since we drove a long way to the hotel.

Relative small and private onsen area facing the calming streams. Our room had a private onsen and that was great. The view from the room was spectacular and amenities was well provided for. We opted the dinner and breakfast and it was good. The public/reserved onsen area was great. They provided welcome drinks and supper as well which was a pleasant surprise. We were greeted by roaming deers at the stream and this closeness to nature experience was amazing. Overall highly recommend.

Located in a lovely area near a lake and mountains. Comfortable room with an inside 'balcony' looking into trees. The shower room and soaking tub also had the same view. Separate sink for tea making. Large Dining Room with some tables looking out over the stream into the trees and in the evening you might see a deer grazing. Worth booking a room if that is how you secure one of these tables. Nice Japanese dinner and breakfast served on an interesting assortment of dishes. The odd jarring note was that the self-service tea at breakfast was in paper cups! They were good about catering for my dietary needs. Good Public Baths which opened out to the grassy area looking into the stream and trees. I particularly enjoyed the outside rocky bath and the small cedar 'barrel'

Dinner has to be ordered by 4.30pm that day. We were not made aware of this when we booked and when we arrived about 6pm were told we could not have dinner that night. So we had to drive to the nearest small town where we couldn't find the recommended restaurants! In the end we found one place that was open and had a tasty meal and an interesting and enjoyable time with a friendly, helpful waitress. But we could have gone hungry! La Vista is close to the junction of 2 main roads-- there is quite a sharp turn off which is easy to miss, especially in the dark. Better signage would be useful!
