We had a great stay here. I didn't really understand how Shiga Kogen is laid out, but in the end am glad that we chose this location vs booking closer to Ichinose or beyond. The hotel is across the street from the bus stop, and very close to the main shop/bus terminal/information booth and first gondola down into the central ski area. I wanted my partner to experience a Japanese style room and meals, so we booked one of the tatami rooms and full board. The meals were excellent - each night there was a different style of nabe, very comforting after a day of skiing. I liked the breakfasts even more. The downstairs onsen was amazing. We also rented ski clothes and gear from the on-site rental. All of the amenities made it really comfortable and stress free to stay here. I highly recommend it.

Like most of the area, the building is on the older side. I don't mind this, but want to mention it so others can align their expectations.

The service was incredible, from the time we booked to the last goodbye. It was our first time in Japan and for most of us, our first time skiing. Naoko helped us with absolutely everything, booking extra space for our friends, booking the right tickets for ski lifts, guiding us where to go, looking for ski school, renting gear and equipment, taking buses, you name it! Always so kind and calm! Everyone in the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The place is really clean and like a home! You can pretty much ski from the hotel car park! Food was beautiful and it was just so nice to relax in the Onsen after a day of ski and before a feast! Not worrying about restaurants, with 4 teenagers, all we did at night was enjoy their company playing ping pong, cards and chatting about the day! We couldn’t feel more comfortable or welcome!

It is at a great location, just 20 minutes drive to Shibutoge where we saw a majestic sunrise and amazing sea of cloud. There are also several hiking opportunities round ponds and lakes nearby. The room is comfortable and the private onsen a welcomed relaxation after a day out. Both dinner and breakfast are delicious. Most of all, the staff are friendly and very helpful. When I visit Shiga Kogen again, this will be my choice hotel.

Perhaps there could be free coffee in the afternoon.

Absolutely loved our stay at Shirakabaso! The staff are incredibly helpful and kind, the food was amazing, the room was spacious and perfect for us traveling with our 2 year old. The onsens were excellent, and the hotel location was ideal for getting straight on the ski lifts. Will definitely stay here again!

Honestly nothing, the whole experience was great!

We found this place so comfortable and clean. The staff were so nice and helpful. The lady at reception spoke good English. The Japanese breakfasts and dinners were all made with such tasty and fresh ingredients and there was always plenty to eat. Loved the onsen and sauna after skiing all day. Easy to access shuttle buses. When we left, it was snowing heavily so they kindly have us a lift up the road to the bus stop. 10/10

It was a truly pleasant stay at Shirakabaso Kogen. Take san welcomed me right away! From the service, room, meals and staffs at the dining and breakfast room was always nice and kind for a solo traveller like me. Naoko san, Saiki san Yama san and Kiku san, some that I could get names of.

Nothing ... it is an old hotel like the rest in the area, part of the charms of Shiga Kogen.

The room was super comfortable and spacious and the baths were very nice. Each floor also has a massage chair which was amazing. The hotel is also located perfectly to walk to two different trailheads that go into the park. The food was delicious.

Beautiful location up in the mountains and near slopes, really nice and accommodating staff, great onsen - including small, private onsen options for the shy or prudish:). Enjoyed the traditional food as well.

A bit dated, but clean and comfortable with all the amenities.
