This hot spring hotel is right on the shore of Lake Biwa, off the beaten path a bit, and just right if you are ok trying new things, being the odd one out on occasion, and maybe using a translation app to figure out what is going on. I have some severe food allergies and they were so very kind to me, and I ate some of the most delicious and new to me food I have ever eaten. It was harder for my less adventurous child to adapt, but they too made a lot of effort to try new things, and found new food they now like! The hot spring is authentic and wonderful, an experience that my whole family enjoyed, as do many Japanese families who come in multi-generational groups, or as young families or couples to relax here for a few days. This felt like an authentic experience with very kind hosts, excellent food and a beautiful setting. If you happen to make it to the city castle, museum, or sporting events it’s a bonus- and there is a free shuttle to and from the two nearest train stations but you have to e-mail them in advance by at least two days before arrival.

Only one staff member seemed to speak good English, several spoke a little- all were very kind, but there were some processes that took extra long because of the language barrier. We were the only western guests during our stay and speak a minuscule amount of Japanese. Though all’s well that ends well :).

The staff were extremely kind and helpful. We had some delay in reaching the accommodations, but they allowed us to have our dinner right as we entered, before checking in. They also helped us to call a taxi to the train station on our last day. My mother left an item behind, and they kindly mailed it over to my address in Tokyo after we left! Compliments to the chef, the food every breakfast and dinner were so delicious, and my family and I got to try many local delicacies in the comfort of the hotel :) My parents also enjoyed their very first experience of onsen here!

The hotel is a little far from the train station, but can be reached within 10 minutes by taxi! Worth the travel for the good view though :)

This is a very authentic Japanese Onsen hotel that includes elaborate meals in the room fee. Mostly older Japanese guests who come to use the Onsen and enjoy fish based high end Keiseki meals. Not for picky Western eaters. Very little English spoken. Women's Onsen on 6th floor has fabulous lake-front views. This place would not be exciting for the younger generation. Not close to anything. Hikone is a nice town but pretty sleepy.

Mainly older guests who come here to relax and eat gourmet Japanese meals. If you are a foodie who loves Onsens and views of Lake Biwa this is a good quiet choice. Very expensive.

Friendly English speaking staff helping you book a taxi to Kawachi no Kaza'ana Cave (河內風穴) and return as shown on their website. Thoughtfully recommended the duration of stay, and availability of the restaurant (which happened to have taken an irregular day off) at the entrance of the trail to the Cave.

Very nice and accommodating staff, excellent service, really nice public baths, the food is traditional but I personally found it a little bland.

There’s not much to do within the hotel so expect to go out into the city. Hikone is great to visit for a day, but you don’t have to stay more than that. It’s good for a weekend getaway, but not much more.

I liked the quiet location, the view of Lake Biwa, the friendly staff, and the access to both public and private onsen facilities.

There wasn’t anything particular I disliked about the property. The only thing that was inconvenient was getting from Hikone Station to the resort, since I didn’t know how to schedule a shuttle bus.

The foods and staff service are exceptional. The surprise Dan Dan noodle night snacks are really tasty as well.

The public bath facilities is average for the price. The frequency of the shuttle bus service is sparse

room is super spacious. it is also very clean and well maintained. staff doesnt speak english well but they are still very friendly and made us feel welcomed.

we weren’t notified that the main front door of the accommodation closes at around 10pm. we went out to Lawson for some midnight snack and got locked out when we came back. we seeked help by messaging the property management team via the booking.com app and they responded within seconds. very impressed by how efficiently the problem was solved.
