This was our first traditional ryokan experience during our honeymoon, and we loved every moment of our stay. Everything is thoughtfully arranged for you, from the pick-up at Matto Station to meals, drinks, and clothing. All you need to do is relax and enjoy your time. We stayed in a traditional room with a private open-air onsen, which was my favorite part. The dinner was amazing. I understand that some dishes might not be for everyone, but I loved every single one. I’m a foodie and enjoy exploring different flavors, and this was truly a highlight for me. For breakfast, I chose the western option and my husband had the Japanese option, and both were incredibly delicious. The surroundings are beautiful and calming. After our stay in Tokyo and a hike up Mount Fuji, this was exactly what we needed. Our host was lovely, originally from Spain but having lived in Japan for a long time, she speaks fluent Japanese and English very well. The rest of the staff were professional and kind too. Since it was our honeymoon, they even gifted us a beautiful Kutani ceramic tea cup, which was incredibly thoughtful. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and will definitely come back!

Location, staff - attentive but not intrusive, courtesy pick up from train station, authenticity of the hotel, food was spectacularly served in the room. The welcome by the staff upon arrival felt like I was in the White Lotus tv show. The hotel had a very calm and relaxing quality to it. The reception views over the small pond and garden were lovely. We didn't use the public onsen as we had a private one. The traditional robe and pyjamas were a lot of fun. This was very convenient and worthwhile when you are not used to bathing naked in public.

The room really needed a comfortable lounge or seat other than a western style dining table. I understand it is very authentically Japanese, but we are older and sitting on the floor and only at a table gets a bit uncomfortable after a while. This probably won't bother all visitors. Some tiny aspects of the hotel are a bit worn. It is older, I understand, but just a few little running repairs looked a bit shabby.

The food was excellent, the service provided was amazing. Natalie who helped us carry our bags, set up the room and prepare our food gave us the best and most welcoming experienced throughout my whole trip in Japan. The owners were also able to cater to food allergies, slightly later check in time and provided us with extra information for our next part of our trip. Everything about the stay was great with no complains at all, it was really worth the value and I will definitely come back here if I pass by the area during my next trip to Japan.

The hospitality was amazing. From the shuttle that met us at the train station, to Natalie explaining all different courses of kaiseki, to the owners welcoming us. We really appreciated the tranquility the room offered. We had a great view of the garden from our balcony. The private onsen was the icing on the cake. It was the most relaxing thing, we used it 4 times during our one day stay. All in all, I was looking for a traditional Japanese experience and Matsusaki did not disappoint.

Staff were very helpful and friendly to a point of stressing us because they literally watched us entered our car. Very kids friendly too! The outdoor private onsen was so good we were in the room most of the time! Kaiseiki meals were awesome my kids were asking if could stay longer. Overall a very good experience and the best ryokan we stayed in! If you need to do laundry, there is coin laundry about 5-10 mins walk away. Did I mention? They have a very pretty garden too!

The staff at Matsusaki was so friendly and welcoming. The hospitality was exceptional. Dinner and breakfast were served in our room with an explanation of the dishes. The in room onsen was so relaxing as were the public onsens and massage chairs. We left the ryokan to walk to the nearby bookstore and grocery store which was close by and a fun experience. Parking was very easy. I highly recommend this ryokan for all travelers and would love to return.

The public outdoor and indoor onsen water temperature is a little cooler than I would like, more so outdoors, but the private onsen in our room had great water temperature

A gorgeous property with beautiful gardens. Very peaceful and calm. Meals (dinner and breakfast) were excellent. Kaiseki dinner was superb. Highly recommended, especially with snow crab and Noto beef. Very spacious and comfortable family room with indoor and outdoor onsen. Love the toiletries, smell great! Loved the massage chair in room, daily afternoon sweet and tea, tea ceremony in the tea room, very attentive and gracious English speaking staff. Free shuttle bus to nearby attractions. Kutani Museum and shops were great. Will come back again.

We liked everything, perhaps the meal times could be a little bit more flexible?

A very traditional experience. We stayed in the older part of the hotel to have the use of a private open air bath. It was nice to experience the traditional room, the meal served within the room and to have free use of a private bath. The room was comfortable and we slept well. Staff were very helpful, especially Natalie, our host.

Nothing. It was as expected

This stay was OUTSTANDING and so much more than I expected. We had a traditional tatami room with its own private onsen outside that overlooked a gorgeous garden; honestly a slice of heaven. That in itself would be enough but no, the service and the staff were just beyond exceptional in ryokan. Breakfast & Dinners were served within our room (by room it was more like the size of a small house to be honest). And each meal was a traditional coursed menu and OUTSTANDING. Fresh and authentic. We had an amazing host named Natalie look after us - and she went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect; and it truly was. The owner of the ryokan even came around to each room to welcome guests and every single person working was just so kind and helpful. My partner and I will always look back on this stay as the most phenomenal experience, a once in a lifetime and highly recommended if you’re looking for the true onsen & ryokan experience for a quiet getaway. Heaven.

Nothing, everything was exceptional.

Food was fantastic and filling, no need for lunch as breakfast will last you till dinner which is even more filling. Great place to relax, recharge, get a inroom massage is recommended, onsen experience, we had our own inroom onsen as well, looking out to the private garden. Great service, our host Natalie was multilingual so made the experience even easier for us.

A little bit out of the way, but expect that if you check first as i did and want the getaway from the busy areas.
