The staff were very sweet and helpful and the food for breakfast and dinner (half board) was wonderful. They were very thoughtful in accomodating no gluten or dairy or pork request. The building is very traditional and requires some renovations in some areas but this did not distract us from enjoying our stay. Some written information in English on how to prepare for and use the public bathing area would be helpful.

This lovely place is very traditional and some Information on the history of the property and cultural do’s and don’t s would be helpful. (The Free included) ‘Star gazing’ was cancelled unfortunately for our 1 night there in the evening due to the weather. An alternative inside offer, would have been good.

The location is so peaceful and the staff is lovely. It was a clear night, so the stargazing tour was incredible and definitely a highlight of our trip. We really enjoyed the private and public onsen in the evening and the food was carefully prepared and delicious, although way too much for us.

The morning felt quite rushed. The latest time to have breakfast was at 8am, and the public onsen also closed for cleaning at 8:30, so there was no chance to enjoy the facilities or relax in the morning.

This place was amazing! It’s up the hill from Kiso Fukushima, we walked but it was a bit of a hike so recommend taking the shuttle. The staff were so friendly and the hotel was very clean. Our room was large, had big windows, and hot water so you could always have tea. The highlight of our stay was the meals: dinner was an incredible multi-course menu that was gourmet! They were also able to accommodate our dietary needs. Breakfast was another amazing multi course meal that was beautiful and delicious. The onsen was clean and hot, we especially enjoyed the outdoor one after a long day of hiking.

It’s a bit dated but we thought it was beautiful. It is about 5km outside of town up a hill but they offer a shuttle service which was great.

What a gorgeous property, nestled in the mountains with beautiful views! We were lucky enough that it was snowing lightly our last morning there, and it made for such a picturesque experience, watching the snow fall on the garden outside. This is a great place to go if you need some R&R in the mountains away from the cities and crowds. We loved the dinner and breakfast, and we thought the service and staff were EXCEPTIONAL. The onsen is beautiful, and our room was huge -- pretty rare to see a room that large in a Japanese hotel! This is a great spot to get a more upscale-feeling ryokan and onsen experience, but at a reasonable price.

Parts of the building are showing a bit wear and tear (like older carpet in the hallway) but the room and onsen were in perfect shape.

Such a good value hotel with beautiful rooms, beautiful grounds, spectacular onsen and good food to complete a wonderful stay. For what we paid, I found it to be one of the best all round Ryokan style onsen hotel. Th grounds of the hotel are kept beautiful and do take the time to enjoy them from library, walking around the hotel and from the room. The rooms are very spacious, had all the nice amenities and well spaced out. Onsen was one of the best ones we have stayed with outdoor bath set in a beautiful setting. We had dinner and breakfast and both were special, had lots of local seasonal produce, well prepared,.presented and had great flavour. Again for the $ we paid, I thought this was great and loved all the meals. Staff were well trained, very service oriented and had no complaints. Overall a great mid value hotel that we enjoyed and would highly recommend.

It's slightly showing its age but the recent renovations are giving it a second life.

The private onsen was great after a day hiking, the staff were incredibly hospitable, and the dinner was out of this world. Definitely a highlight of the stay - we really weren't expecting it to be so good.

As mentioned in other reviews, some areas of the hotel are showing signs of age which isn't an issue per-se but the price point is high. The dinner still makes this hotel a great stay and good value for money, but I think some small touch ups would go a long way to making this an absolute stand out option. Also some of the lighting in the bedrooms was a bit harsh, white light bulbs rather than warm ones. Would suggest making all lighting warmer or having more lamps so that the main lights didn't need to be on all the time.

Our stay here was a highlight of our trip! Not only were the surroundings beautiful but the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very generous in size and the beds extremely comfortable. We were able to book a private onsen which was the perfect introduction to the onsen experience! Dinner and breakfast were extremely tasty and the shuttle service (timed to train arrivals) meant we didn't need to worry about arranging a taxi. Overall this was a particularly special stay!

This place was a delight from start to finish. The accommodation had undergone a stylish renovation, the hot spring onsen is lovely (especially the outdoor pools), dinner was divine and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.

It’s a little out of town but the ryokan has a free shuttle bus from Kiso-Fukushima you should be able to use.

Meals were elaborate and nice. Rooms were large with air conditioning, dehumidifier and TV. Onsen was large with an indoor and outdoor pool.

We had to get rid of a large spider when we checked in, so maybe they could have done better with the cleaning. We booked a mountain facing view but we got rooms facing the car park.

Excellent dinner, and very rich. Great shochu and Sake's multi-tasting options, with fair prices. I liked th eating area since not too big, it made the experience more intimate and friendy also while surrounded by some other guests. The room was a bit outdated, but very comfortable, cleaned and with a decent size. Lovely seating area. Visited the onsen mostly with none else around, both indoor and outdoor onsen very pleasant. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were extremely kind, friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that the ryokan wasn't not fully re-modernized, it made the experience special and different from more contemporary onsen ryokan.

Fresh paint on some part of the room's walls would give a better and fresher touch to the room! :)
