This place was amazing! It’s up the hill from Kiso Fukushima, we walked but it was a bit of a hike so recommend taking the shuttle. The staff were so friendly and the hotel was very clean. Our room was large, had big windows, and hot water so you could always have tea. The highlight of our stay was the meals: dinner was an incredible multi-course menu that was gourmet! They were also able to accommodate our dietary needs. Breakfast was another amazing multi course meal that was beautiful and delicious. The onsen was clean and hot, we especially enjoyed the outdoor one after a long day of hiking.

It’s a bit dated but we thought it was beautiful. It is about 5km outside of town up a hill but they offer a shuttle service which was great.

What a gorgeous property, nestled in the mountains with beautiful views! We were lucky enough that it was snowing lightly our last morning there, and it made for such a picturesque experience, watching the snow fall on the garden outside. This is a great place to go if you need some R&R in the mountains away from the cities and crowds. We loved the dinner and breakfast, and we thought the service and staff were EXCEPTIONAL. The onsen is beautiful, and our room was huge -- pretty rare to see a room that large in a Japanese hotel! This is a great spot to get a more upscale-feeling ryokan and onsen experience, but at a reasonable price.

Parts of the building are showing a bit wear and tear (like older carpet in the hallway) but the room and onsen were in perfect shape.

Such a good value hotel with beautiful rooms, beautiful grounds, spectacular onsen and good food to complete a wonderful stay. For what we paid, I found it to be one of the best all round Ryokan style onsen hotel. Th grounds of the hotel are kept beautiful and do take the time to enjoy them from library, walking around the hotel and from the room. The rooms are very spacious, had all the nice amenities and well spaced out. Onsen was one of the best ones we have stayed with outdoor bath set in a beautiful setting. We had dinner and breakfast and both were special, had lots of local seasonal produce, well prepared,.presented and had great flavour. Again for the $ we paid, I thought this was great and loved all the meals. Staff were well trained, very service oriented and had no complaints. Overall a great mid value hotel that we enjoyed and would highly recommend.

It's slightly showing its age but the recent renovations are giving it a second life.

The private onsen was great after a day hiking, the staff were incredibly hospitable, and the dinner was out of this world. Definitely a highlight of the stay - we really weren't expecting it to be so good.

As mentioned in other reviews, some areas of the hotel are showing signs of age which isn't an issue per-se but the price point is high. The dinner still makes this hotel a great stay and good value for money, but I think some small touch ups would go a long way to making this an absolute stand out option. Also some of the lighting in the bedrooms was a bit harsh, white light bulbs rather than warm ones. Would suggest making all lighting warmer or having more lamps so that the main lights didn't need to be on all the time.

Our stay here was a highlight of our trip! Not only were the surroundings beautiful but the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very generous in size and the beds extremely comfortable. We were able to book a private onsen which was the perfect introduction to the onsen experience! Dinner and breakfast were extremely tasty and the shuttle service (timed to train arrivals) meant we didn't need to worry about arranging a taxi. Overall this was a particularly special stay!

Excellent dinner, and very rich. Great shochu and Sake's multi-tasting options, with fair prices. I liked th eating area since not too big, it made the experience more intimate and friendy also while surrounded by some other guests. The room was a bit outdated, but very comfortable, cleaned and with a decent size. Lovely seating area. Visited the onsen mostly with none else around, both indoor and outdoor onsen very pleasant. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were extremely kind, friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that the ryokan wasn't not fully re-modernized, it made the experience special and different from more contemporary onsen ryokan.

Fresh paint on some part of the room's walls would give a better and fresher touch to the room! :)

This was a lovely traditional Japanese ryokan. The outdoor onsen was beautiful and so peaceful in nature. The free stargazing tour was wonderful and the guide was so knowledgeable. The food included was delicious and generous, and it was nice to taste so many different Japanese foods. We were picked up and dropped off at the train station, included in the room rate. The ryokan is in a nice quiet location, but only a short journey from the station. The staff were very friendly.

Some of the decor could do with updating (eg torn carpets), but it’s only cosmetic as the room had everything we needed and was very clean.

The three highlights of our stay here were the stargazing experience, the wonderful Kaiseki breakfast and dinner, and the outdoor onsen! We were lucky enough that they were offering the stargazing experience the night we were there and one of their staff who speaks English took the time to come with us to translate which was so kind of her! Even though it was foggy that night, the staff member who's an astronomy expert and chef made it interesting by showing us the photos and constellations on his ipad and it was great to be out at night in the mountains. The food was spectacular and we wore our yukatas to dinner. We were the only foreigners staying there at the time as this ryokan is often enjoyed by Japanese travelers. I was lucky enough to get the onsen to myself on a rainy morning and was able to enjoy the beauty of the trees outside while sitting in the onsen. The staff were all so nice and made us feel really welcome. I recommend taking a walk into the small town of Fukushima near the station, they have a great little museum that teaches about their local matsuri festival and a fantastic urushi shop 海老屋漆器店--get your wooden bowls and lacquerware here!

We had two dinners and two breakfasts there, and they were all phenomenal, and quite varied. The onsen was very nice, and the option to have time in the private onsen as a couple was an added plus. Our room was spacious, with a really nice view, and the sound of a babbling brook outside the window. This is a first rate ryokan, and we really enjoyed our stay there. We would recommend it highly.

I can't think of anything.

Staff were very helpful. Meals were good. We stayed 2 nights and the dinner was different for 2 nights. I would say authentic experience at a value-for-money price point.

Amenities provided in the onsen were very basic; only hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body bath. There was no comb/brush for hair, no facial cleanser, no make up remover, and no moisturiser for face or body.
