Amazing experience. Me and my boyfriend stayed at Higashiyamaso for 3 days to explore Kyoto. Our host and their staff were very kind and helpful. The ryokan is very close to all the beautiful shrines and easily accessible since it’s on the Main Street. The main host is a very nice guy who truly wants to give his guests the best experience! We loved it very much. We got to book a private onsen, the private onsens are tattoo friendly so that is great! Terrific experience! We already miss the peace and quiet of the ryokan/ and beautiful Kyoto. I would definitely come back!

Everything was outstanding. I would definitely book again! I stayed with two of my best friends, and we were all completely satisfied with everything we experienced at the ryokan. The staff were incredibly amazing! from the front desk to the kitchen, every staff member we encountered was warm and welcoming. A special shoutout to Yada (apologies if I spelled it incorrectly!). He gave us a lovely room tour and even taught us how to say thank you in the Kyoto dialect. He was by far the sweetest person we met during our entire trip to Japan. Thank you, Yada, and thank you to all the staff. We will definitely visit again :)

You won’t regret staying here. The staff were so kind and helpful and provided a personal touch that exceeded every expectation for what we were looking for in our ryokan experience. The location is prime, easily walkable to the train a bus station. Japanese breakfast was delicious and changed each day. I definitely recommended staying for more than one night to get the full experience. We stayed on the third floor (all rooms have views) and although ours didn’t have the pagoda view, the sunset was beautiful each night. The room size is enough for 2 people and included a toilet. The staff set up our futons and changed the sheets every morning. Although there is a shared bath which required reservations, we didn’t encounter issues as we arrived back late each evening and were able to use it at our leisure. We forwarded our luggage to each stop throughout our vacation. They took care of the entire process for us and kept us updated with it’s status. If you’re on the fence or are unsure, the quality of service, authenticity and genuine care in our experience made Kyoto Higashiyamaso different from the rest - we’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Very nice traditional Japanese guest house. Super friendly staff, great location near Kyoto’s main attractions such as Gion and Kyomizu-dera, decent (but traditional Japanese!) breakfast and wonderful onsen bathrooms in the basement.

Rooms are not that big and once your tatami is set for sleeping, there is little wiggle room for anything else. Toilets are shared and not in the rooms. Same as showers: to shower you book a private slot in the agenda and you go to the basement to shower and bathe in the onsen (hot thermal spring).

There are no words to explain how wonderful the staff is at this hotel. The hotel is in the absolute best location for sightseeing. You are within a 10 minute walk of everything. The hotel is 10 times better than pictured. Breakfast is Japanese style with very large portions. Truly, I cannot say enough about this hotel we stayed in seven hotels while in Japan and this was by far the absolute best. Even after leaving the hotel in our taxi, the staff ran down the street about two blocks to catch our taxi to give us a small bag that we left on the counter. I mean, they truly go out of their way to do absolutely anything for you. by the way, my Japanese was not great but had zero problems with communication with the staff. Truly amazing. Congrats to you all.

The staff at this location were exceptionally friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome from the very first moment. Nothing was too much trouble. The location of this ryokan is perfect for exploring beautiful old Kyoto and was an oasis in the midst of a very busy street. We booked the 4 bed room which was extremely clean and had a gorgeous view of Hokan-ji Temple pagoda. Sleeping futons and having a traditional Japanese breakfast was a once in a lifetime experience for us. We loved that we were able to book the private onsen for a 30 min slot just for our family and because it was late at night (10pm) we were able to stay on over our alloted slot - the staff member had suggested this with a cheeky giggle - what a lovely man. Would definitely recommend.

There was really nothing I could criticize in this hotel - it was truly unique and authentic.

The location is very near to kiyomizudera temple. the streets are quiet after 7pm, Hence it is not bothering us during our rest. The room is in simple traditional settings with tatami mats, minus the tokonoma alcove. The hospitality is superb. The receptionist guiding us to our room and make us feel at home immediately. He was very funny and totally make our day with his explanation and jokes. He was very worried that we didnt had dinner and trying to find food for us as we reach the ryokan late. They use booking system to use the common bath. we booked 9.30pm to 10pm and the place was very clean. The breakfast was excellent. It was beautifully arranged and various in selection. Overall, we were very satisfied and had a wonderful experience there.

Loved our stay at Higashiyamaso!! The service was so attentive, upon check in we were given a mini tour of the facility and attractions nearby by the sweetest man, and booked us into the private onsen. We chose breakfast to be included and the food was AMAZING. We stayed in the Kiyomizu room and it was very spacious with futon, the perfect traditional experience. Location is also fantastic near Kiyomizu-dera, Ninenzaka and Gion.

The facility is dated and the in room shower pressure is not great, but everything else is amazing so you won't care :)

An amazing Japanese experience, the futons were very comfy, we slept like logs. The public bathroom are very nice and cozy especially it was the beginning of December and was a bit chilly, they have 1 for males and 1 for females but they told us if you wanna go as a couple you can go inside and lock the door at any of them. We took the room that has private bathroom and it has 2 AC which you can put on heat. Very clean and they provide you with Japanese tea set. The view was wonderful facing the Pagoda with some fall trees. The breakfast was very elegant and cute, they asked us if we have any restrictions the day before, and we told them we're Muslims, so they made sure no meat or alcohol was included. The staff are very welcoming and they pay attention to little details. They prepared the futons for us when we were outside. The location was perfect to wake up in the morning and wander the old streets of Kyoto and see the amazing temples around. They also kept out luggage when we checked out for few hours.

Everything. Very beautiful and traditional place to stay. Very well located near the Gion area and many shrines and temples around. The room was amazing with traditional tatami, bamboo doors and futon beds. There was a closed balcony with a table and chairs with amazing views to the Pagoda at Hokan-ji temple. There was a traditional Japanese low dinning table and chairs in the centre of the room when we arrived but then the staff prepared the room for us to sleep with the futon beds. There was a public bath but private use so we both could book it only for us. And the breakfast was to die for. Traditional Japanese breakfast with miso soup, fish, rice, pickles, green tea. I loved it.
