We had a wonderful stay at Campton Kiyomizu Vacation Rental! The location is absolutely perfect—just a short walk to many of Kyoto’s major attractions, which made exploring the city incredibly convenient. The property itself was spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, and very well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Staying here gave us a lovely taste of a traditional Japanese home, with its beautiful design and peaceful atmosphere—it really added something special to our Kyoto experience. The host was also fantastic—very responsive and helpful throughout our visit, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. We truly felt welcomed and well taken care of. One thing future guests should be aware of: at the time of this review, there is an additional charge of 1,500 yen per person upon arrival as a city tax. It wasn’t a big deal for us, but it’s good to know ahead of time. Overall, we highly recommend Campton Kiyomizu to anyone looking for a stylish, authentic, and conveniently located stay in Kyoto. We’d absolutely stay here again!

The hotel was in a charming area, but unfortunately not very convenient if you’re carrying luggage. The path from the drop-off location involves a steep slope and uneven brick roads, which made it quite difficult to reach. Inside, the narrow and steep stairs were also a challenge, especially with heavy bags. Would not recommend for travelers with mobility issues or large luggage.

The room was amazing! 2 floors. Location was enviously located with this incredible view of the pagoda! Washer/dryer very easy to use! King bed was very comfortable and kids liked the futon as well.

Not the property’s fault, since it’s located in such a prime touristy neighborhood, with narrow stone pathways and some stairs… would be good to pack light for the stay, which we did (left bigger luggages stored somewhere else). So taxi would only reach to a certain point and guests have to walk to property with luggages in the crowd. If well planned, not a problem.

So we don’t need to grab baggages all the way up to the slope. -Easy to access all temples，cafe，restaurants. -Perfect view from room 7 and well cleaned. Also the washing machine is really helpful for us！

Overall exceed our expectations！ I would suggest if the cleaning fee can be noticed before arrival that would be great.

BEST location — just steps away from the pagoda, which we think is the main spot to see at sunrise and sunset with fewer crowds. • Perfect for families who want to share a space. • Traditional Japanese breakfast added to the cultural experience.

No cot available for our child, but we made do with the floor setup. • Taxis can’t drop you off at the door, so be prepared for a 5–10 minute walk with a gradual uphill slope - worth it though. • Would recommend packing light!

Property is very quiet, despite being on a famous street. There's a washing machine and drier in the apartment which is very useful. Staff is nice and helpful.

There's no room cleaning included, it costs an additional 8k ¥ per each cleaning. Even though we stayed for a longer period there was no bin collection or towel change included. Breakfast is very large but average taste. Wooden bathtub is aesthetic but smells musty and has stains in the corners.

Amazing location and incredibly accommodating hosts. Unlike other big hotels you really get a sense that everyone there cares and wants to ensure the enjoyment of your stay. We were travelling with a 10 month old and they ensured we had everything we needed. The location cannot be beat right in the heart of Gion, we found ourselves not worrying about the crowds since we were right in the centre of the action and could explore the area whenever we wanted.

Taxis cannot go directly to the front door and is about a 3-5 minute walk so be mindful if you have a lot of luggage!

The hotel was beautiful and comfortable. When we walked out, we could see the best view of Yasaka Pagoda. Our room, number 1, had a fantastic decoration and a great smell. We could see the Pagoda from our second floor. The washing machine in the room was really helpful as it also had a built-in dryer. Additionally, the bathtub was really big, and it was so relaxing to soak in the hot bath after a day of walking. I woke up around 5 am and walked out of the hotel to explore the town. There were already some people in front of the hotel taking pictures of the pagoda in the early morning. It's great that we can easily explore the area and return to the hotel when we get tired.

- Breakfast was alright - After 5-6 pm, there were few open restaurants in the area. However, we can walk to Gion for food, which is about a 15-minute walk.

The breakfast was very good the first day, but not as good on the second day. Beds were comfy, the location is amazing, the unit was very quiet but in the middle of a popular tourist area. It felt very secluded but also surrounded by businesses. Laundry in-room was a bonus. The bathroom was very nice. Everything was clean. Our host went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. They accommodated us with a late arrival, met us at check-in, set up taxi rides when needed, and was quick to respond to messages.

It is a little difficult having a 2nd story rental, so keep this in mind if you have kids or are not comfortable with steep stairs. I found myself going up and down a lot. Difficult to get luggage upstairs to the bedroom.

Location couldn’t be any better. Yasaka Pagoda is right at your doorstep and it’s only a 10 minute walk up to Kiyomizudera. Right in the middle of all the attraction sites yet feels quiet and peaceful once we were back in our unit. Check in to check out process was seamless and the host was extremely accommodating. Very clean and spacious- useful for families travelling together. Airconditioning was top notch, and we looked forward to returning back each time (we travelled in summer)x We stayed in rooms 2 and 8 - both were lovely in their own way.

We were welcomed by great staff who spoke English very well, making our settling in quick and easy after a long trip. The wooden decor throughout the place created a warm and comfortable atmosphere, further enhanced by a quaint garden right inside. Its location is a winner, nestled in the historical part of Kyoto, making most popular tourist attractions easily accessible. Staying in Kiyomizu 1 was a treat with a beautiful view over the Yasaka Pagoda from the second floor. The very unique Japanese breakfast experience was a delightful start to our day, introducing us to local flavors and customs. We cherished our stay and Campton Kiyomizu will be a choice destination whenever we find ourselves in Kyoto again.
