The owner was extremely kind and helpful! We were allowed to drop off our bags early while the room was being cleaned so that we could enjoy sightseeing on our first day. The owner also prepared a suggested itinerary for us with lots of helpful suggestions and local tips. the location is a short walk to Gion-Shijo station so is super easy for people staying near Yodobayashi in Osaka. The home is very well appointed and the fittings are very high quality.

If you are tall (180 cm or over) then the door frames and the ceiling upstairs may be a little tight. we stayed here for 3 days and didn't struggle too much.

By far the best accommodation I stayed at during my trip to Japan. Natsuki, the owner of the Ryokan, greeted me when I arrived to show me around the place and tell me the history of the house. Every detail of the newly restored home was meticulously crafted and thought through. I even received a custom itinerary for how to spend my time in the city. The home is walking distance to major tourist attractions while itself being on a quiet street. The bed was very comfortable, and there is a great work area if you're traveling as a digital nomad or in Kyoto for a workation. I've recommended this place to several friends and family members already, and will happily stay here again on my next trip to Tokyo.

Our host Natsuki was absolutely wonderful. Extremely accomodating and suuuper lovely. Went above and beyond for us - super clear communication, check in process, responsive, and Natsuki provided a personalised booklet of recommendations too. The accomodation exceeded our expectations, we all loved the entire stay. A really unique experience, while also comfortable modern and super spacious!! The toilet was the most high tech bidet I've ever seen. Also, the location is incredible: right in the heart of Kyoto and walking distance from multiple temples and the main shopping streets. Overall one of the best experiences we shared in Kyoto - glowing recommendations for all 4 of us!

Kyomachiya Suite was everything it promised. Beautiful, comfortable, well appointed. The location was excellent - so close to so many wonderful places to eat and see, with excellent proximity to the river trail (running) and the hills (hiking). The bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing. The place was very quiet as well. Our host was very communicative and provided us with suggestions of places to visit and eat. I would absolutely stay here again. We feel so very lucky to have found this place. Thank you!

Beautiful Machiya house. Clean. Host was terrific - helpful, welcoming, prompt with responses to any queries. Kids loved the upstairs bedroom with internal window. In quiet residential street and close to ninenzaka and sannenzaka.

Downtown Kyoto with more shops/restaurants a bit further away although still only around 10-15 min walk. Upstairs ceiling height is a bit low although not troublesome as our kids stayed up there. I would emphasise though that these are both really minor points - overall we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this accommodation and host.

[a family of four adults from the US.] This property would be our first pick when visiting again. The property was beautiful, convenient, and the hostess was charming and hospitable. We were happily surprised with the suggested itinerary and restaurant recommendations she provided. It was within walking distance of several sights. The property was designed well, very clean and had everything we needed. We chose it because of the interior design and it exceeded our expectations. The single bathroom for four adults was a concern before arriving, but because the toilet area and bathing areas were split, it was not an issue. We were there during a very hot week and the AC worked very well. We also made good use of the laundry machine. Of note for taller occupants, it is a newly refurbished property in a historic district and a couple doorways and the ceiling in the loft bedroom are lower than US standard. We found it charming and not an inconvenience to us.

The host put together a thoughtful recommended itinerary during our stay. We especially loved the details about how the space came to exist and its historical significance. The location is great, with easy access to public transportation. The hosts are incredibly communicative and we would be thrilled to stay again!

We loved our stay at this charming Japanese townhouse, which was the perfect blend of tradition and modern comfort. Our hostess Natsuki was incredibly responsive and helpful before and during our stay, and even offered valuable suggestions for exploring Kyoto. The property is walking distance to some of Kyoto's main attractions, yet located in a quiet and lovely local neighborhood. True to the photos, but better in person.

We loved everything. Just a heads up, the second bedroom involves setting up a Japanese futon on tatami mats in the downstairs room. We didn’t mind this at all, as it adds a charming and authentic touch to the experience.

You can’t ask a better location to stay in Kyoto! The property is stone throw from attractions like the kiyomizu-sera, Kodaji and chion-in temples. Walking distance of 10-15mins from Gion and Pontocho alley where you will be spoilt for food choices. For your morning refuel, you can literally roll out of bed to convenient stores like Lawsons and 7-11 which are right at yoru doorstep. The property itself was very well maintained - clean and cozy. Natsuki, our host spared no effort in the little touches to making the stay extra welcoming, like providing warm towels, pajamas and the smell of soothing incense when you walk through the door.
