It is just a great little place (the town, the hotel is not little). The staff's English skills were a bit on the weak side, but their efforts to please overcame any issues in this regard. The onsen, though not huge or overly fancy had all the things you need and just where you want them (sort of that way for everything there). Well designed and situated hotel. The breakfast was good, but not spectacular (no complaint - just not raving about it)......the town seems to be going through a transition with many of the smaller venues closed and visibly run down (closed for a while), but many new hotels. Like most onsens, this is probably due to many people eating in hotel and thus outside shops suffer. There is no shopping here, you have to go 5-10 mins into town. No shopping there either, but A LOT of restaurants. There are local things to see and do, but we did not do them, we just vegetated and this was a great place to do that. NOTE, their onsen is a special organic water one, one of only a few in Japan.

Nothing much....definitely a place to relax and enjoy.

The onsen was clean and well managed but as an Onsen Hotel, guests are already paying a premium to travel in and out of it (it’s 11km from Obihiro) at least distance Obihiro to do anything touristic, so then paying an additional 1500 Yen per person per day as an Onsen tax seems excessive. We used taxis till on third day we asked staff to book as a taxi and they said we could use the bus and gave us a bus ticket. The Tourist info at Obihiro said the bus to Obihiro was free for their guests so the transport message isn’t being announced well enough.

The set dinner we had for 7700 wasn’t quality or good value - all a mush. Overcooked fish. Cold (eh tempura). After this meal (you’re a captive there, tired after travel) we found an excellent restaurant at the end of their road, 5 mins away, walking, where we were warmly welcomed the next two nights for the freshest veg, delicious own grown Hokkaido beef.

Nice Japanese style rooms, the staff was very friendly and a great onsen. The buffet also had some amazing choices. There is a nice walking area along the river for a peaceful stroll after a hot onsen

I think for the price charged for the dinner, they could have added more variety on different days. Also, some of the dishes lended themselves less well for being left out buffet style. There is nothing much else in the neighbourhood but just onsen hotels, only a few food places, that were closed when we were there. Quite some empty houses so it felt deserted.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. I nearly didn't choose it because the price was so low, but it was amazing! The room was quite small and the outside bath on the balcony quite small too, but plenty of room for a couple. There was a lovely view of the river from the room and bath and we saw several red-crowned cranes which was an unexpected bonus. The buffet breakfast and dinner was ordinary but perfectly acceptable. Highly recommended if you want a private bath with a view, without blowing the budget. This hotel had the best location at Tokachigawa Onsen. Excellent value.

All good for the price.

We stayed in the traditional Japanese style room and it was very spacious and cozy. The room is very clean and the staff helped us to put up the traditional bed in the evening. The hot spring bath was great and there is a nice outdoor + indoor bath. Breakfast was also good with a lot of food varieties.

The price is slightly on the high side but overall worth it.

There is a robot in the lobby area that my son really enjoyed. The breakfast was good and the onsen water felt the best out of all the other onsens we visited. The room was a nice size as well and staff did a great job of setting up our futon beds for us in the evening.

The location was ok, and the surrounding area appeared a bit run down. The dinner was a set menu and while my husband and I enjoyed all the traditional foods, our kids did not enjoy it as much.

Excellent onsen facilities. Very family oriented with one of the best buffets we've experienced in Japan. I had japanese room. Friend Western. Both good. Loved that you can bring pets.

Japanese pillows. But I understand their traditions.

Basically everything is good especially the hot springs and the in room hot springs.

Room a bit small because space occupied by the balcony hot springs. Unless you're really shy to go to the public else I don't think it is necessary.

Very comfortable room with nice river and green scenery. I love to stay in this hotel again whenever coming over to this place!

The food quality of the dinner buffet should have much room for improvement

It was a bit dated, but really clean. Breakfast and dinner both had a lot of options. View from the room was really nice.

There is nothing to do in de neighborhood.
