Stayed there as part of my Shikoku henro trip. Nice hotel. Room was comfartable. Stuff was pleasent. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet including the view from the resturant that was in the top floor.

All was as expected no issues.

The room is clean, everything is working just fine (yet old) - considering the really good price (5k yen per night for a single room) it's a rather good deal. The staff is friendly and the front desk is operated 24/7 (at least at all times when I went by someone was there). There's a (free?) public bath in the 3F - I didn't go there, so I can't comment on that. Getting to the hotel from Sakaide Station is ~1k per Taxi and would be my recommendation if you're not up for a longer walk.

There is virtually no sound proofing. You can hear every word spoken in the corridor outside your room (and probably vice versa). If someone unlocks the room next to yours, it sounds as if someone was entering your own room. There is a large gap below the door of the room, which certainly doesn't help keeping noises out (you can almost fit a 100 Yen or a 1 Euro coin in that gap). It's mandatory to deposit the room key at the front desk when you leave the building. In general the hotel is rather old and you can see that some things have aged over the time (e.g. the illuminated letters of the hotel name on the top of the roof that say "Grand Hotel Sakaide" aren't illuminated anymore for the "Grand", only the "Hotel Sakaide" is still shining bright. So you basically can see shadows of it's past glory but also see that it's been in better shape in the past). However: Everything is kept in a working condition, even the WiFi is good, etc.

For the amount of facilities and benefits (onsen, parking, bath coupon) offered, the cost is extremely good value.

You can call it retro, but some area of the hotel still feels like it is stuck at late-90s.

Upon check-in, the staff asked to see and copy my registration card, which is not necessary for foreign residents in Japan. Only tourists need to have their passports copied. Residents, not.
