I recently had the pleasure of staying at Homy Seafront Hostel in Kota Kinabalu and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! The location right on the seafront is truly majestic, and the views from the hostel are absolutely breathtaking. But what really made my stay memorable was the staff. From the moment I checked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. The staff was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure that I had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. They were always available to answer questions, provide recommendations, and help with anything I needed. The hostel itself was super clean, cozy, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The common areas were spacious and well-maintained, and the kitchen had all the necessary equipment for me to prepare my meals. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning kept the room nice and cool. Overall, my experience at Homy Seafront Hostel was nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Kota Kinabalu who is looking for a comfortable, convenient, and welcoming place to stay. Thank you to the staff for making my stay so memorable!

I enjoyed the homey atmosphere. It was nice to meet lots of people from all over the world. The kitchen was good. You do have privacy. The AC curfew and lights curfew are all right. We could use the TV well.

It was hard to find the location, and confusing to find rooms. We should have more space for the locker room.

Shout out to Cindy, so friendly and helpful on the front desk! The hostel was clean and had a great sea view from the communal area. The location is within the centre, opposite what you might call 'the strip' with restaurants and bars looking over the water. Also the hostel helped arrange a tour at a competitive price to other vendors so really appreciated that!

I found needing to walk at least 20 mins to get to the nicer shops or to the jetty to get to the islands. There's a few massage parlours around so you need to say no to the men advertising but they don't chase.

The lounge is so comfy and homy and a great place to relax and chat with other travellers. Wonderful public space with a sea viewing Amazing views!!! clean, comfy beds and pillows. Due to the flight delay, we arrived late at night, and the staff was very understanding, and allocated a room immediately, allowing us to enter the room and rest as soon as possible. Thank you very much. There are 15 of us in total, and one of them happened to have a birthday. Thanks especially to Cindy, helping us buy cakes and flowers, and creating an unforgettable birthday party. The staff are amazingly helpful. They help connect you with very helpful people who can assist you in booking any activities, will definitely stay again!

Breakfast could have more choices would be better

The staff was one of the best things about this place- so friendly and helpful. Also need to give a shout out to the cleaning lady that did the breakfast room and the showers/corridor on the side opposite reception. As you can imagine with many people sharing a small space it could get messy very quickly (and lots of hair everywhere) but she was pro at keeping everything shiny clean. Location was also fab, lots of cheap or fancy places to eat nearby depending on your budget. The hostel also has a booklet of tours at competitive prices which run daily and were easy to book. We stayed in two different private rooms, the first didn't have a window and we actually preferred that room to the window room (found it a little more spacious). I also loved that there was free bread, biscuits and spreads all day long. Yes, if you stay here long time it gets boring but there is a fridge so you can buy your own food and stop being so cheap :) :)

One thing to note is the walls are paper thin/window room has gap to next bedroom, so if you get respectful neighbours you can sleep well but if you get someone packing and drying their hair at midnight then you won't sleep as good. Not so much in the hostels control and the price paid for the private room was very reasonable so this isn't a deal breaker for us.

The way I organized my trip, I stayed here 3 different times in 3 different types of rooms. *If you can upgrade your room (it’s not expensive to do this at all, depends on availability), it’s worth it, since the cheaper rooms are tiny (if you’re 2 people, 1 person has to walk on top of the other to go to the bathroom at night). General comments: -Bed is comfy. -AC is a bit strange, at times one set temp is fine, then it goes to hot at same temp. -Showers... water is not hot, but warm, which is okay, there are 4 hooks & shampoo, but no mini shelf for glasses (yes, I can put my glasses on a hook, but if my prescription glasses fall and break this is not good at all)... -They provide big fluffy towels, which is great. -Free simple 24 hour breakfast on 3rd floor, helps in a pinch.

This room... It was the biggest room of all, Def worth the upgrade w room to move around, but top corner of wall doesn't quite meet, so can hear neighbors v well (when they talk or if they have an alarm in the morning)

- perfect location - very clean - female dorm is great, a lot of space, very comfy beds, a lot of privacy although there are 8 beds - the receptionist is a lovely helpful person - great common are with amazing view

- unfortunately place is overwhelmed by Chinese tourist and it kills the vibe - I told someone from the staff, that hairdryer hanger is a bit broken and it missing a screw (it hangs over the sink), and the guy from the staff did nothing just told me to hang it as it is. It is a bit dangerous - very basic breakfast, no milk for lactose intolerant people, so I had to go every day to buy myself soya drink

Very strategic location and fascinating lobby at 4th floor overlooking the seafront that offers crystal clear view, especially the sunset beauty. Quite congested hostel. Despite that, not much waiting time for both bathroom/toilet facilities which was a blessing. The crews strived best in maintaining the cleanliness of shared space, especially toilets & bathrooms. However, some users had the problem in keeping up with personal hygiene that may cause discomfort to others. Cosy bed, sufficient lighting and basic provisions to make for a good stay in KK. Very responsive hostel management towards enquiries and sightseeing package coordinations.

Lack of a space or hanging rods for washed clothings to be dried. That caused the available hooks in shower rooms were mostly occupied with no space to allow users hang clothings for bathing, which created inconvenience.
