Location was excellent! Especially if this is your 1st time in CDMX. Room was a good size. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was small, yet comfortable. Great water presure both hot and cold. Room has great light, when windows are open. Bit if you want to sleep in, closed shutters will give you the black-out effect. Our room had AC, which was nice to have since we could not keep the windows open due to heavy traffic noice. Breakfast was excellent! And the service staff at breakfast, especially young Guillermo! Cordial, polite and very welcoming! Hope the Hotel lets him know again we were super pleased with his service .When we go back to CDMX we will return to Hotel Principal!

What was an issue for me: On our 1st day returning to the hotel, after a long day exploring the city, we noticed the room has been cleaned, however the cleaning person left the cleaning cloth on my fresh, dry cleaned dresses, fresh out of my suitcase. From allllllll the areas that the cloth could have been placed, it was placed on my clothes. Front desk was advised immediately. Being a small hotel owner myself, as management I would have addressed the issue more personally. But that was not the case.

Location!!! rooms are super small, but believe when you have hundreds of shops, restaurants, sites to visit you will not spend much time in your room., it’s super clean. We loved the fact that most of the original inside and outside structure has kept. Great customer service. even thought the hotel has a small cafeteria on the terrace, there’s a Starbucks on the corner, a restaurant next door. Hundreds and hundreds of stores , restaurants, try bisquet Obregón!! everything at a walking distance, no need for car rental. If you want to travel outside downtown is best to use Uber. Great fact: we arrive around 2 am, super hungry there’s a couple restaurant/ bar open 24 hours at walking distance, we went to Los cocuyos which was featured on Netflix, “chronicles of the taco” loved their tacos, we went there twice

It would be nice for then to keep their terrace open at night for guest to enjoy the view at night drinking a coffee or cocktail

The attention at the reception was excellent, the room is small but it is fine, for the price I like the decoration, that is why I went there, every day clean towels, only that when we entered they were almost finished cleaning and what I did not like was that it did not smell clean, as if they did not use liquids to clean that had an odor, or I do not know what happened but when entering every day it never smelled clean, they should use more chemicals to disinfect well .. the restaurant for breakfast was very rich, the chef was excellent, only that the waiters forget things even if they are not busy, they are kind yes, but they do forget things, the 7 days I was there I thought that one day they would serve me better and I would leave them a better tip, but I kept waiting, it did not happen, they always forgot something ... one day the housekeeping did not close the door to our room properly, when we arrived it was only closed, but it did not have a key, it did not close the door properly so that it would be closed with a padlock, and that day it also did not leave us toilet paper ... the location Excellent, and I repeat, the customer service at reception was excellent, the decoration was very good, I like it, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, you can hear the noise, but it is normal, people are very loud in the hallways, they have no tact to respect the time whether it is late or early... What they should improve is the waiters in the restaurant (better service) and with housekeeping (with better chemicals for cleaning).

Located in the center of CDMX, Hotel Principal is a great place to stay for vacation. Everything is easy walking distance, including museums, metro lines, and food. The interior of the building is as lovey as it looks in the photos and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. English speakers do note that this seems to be a spot for nationals, so some staff have limited English but everyone does an excellent job communicating despite any language barrier. The cheap and delicious breakfast was certainly a highlight.

You do get what you pay for here - no extra amenities and some of the fixtures etc showed their age. That being said, it’s exactly what it needs to be as far as a place to rest for the night.

We loved the walkable location in Centro Historico, and the beautiful old historic hotel with natural light coming from the ceiling. The plants in the common areas were lush and well cared for, someone was cleaning the leaves everyday. Staff were kind and the front desk extremely accommodating. We loved having breakfast on the roof, all the staff were great and our server Emilio was awesome. He apologized for his English even though it was excellent, we laughed on account of our Spanglishfrancaisitaliano. Would definitely stay here again. Beds were comfy, linens were crisp and clean. We ended up staying for a total of four nights, booking directly with the hotel and found that our rooms were better.

Our first night through Booking.com found us in a small interior room on the top floor that was too cramped for 3 adults. We spoke with the front desk and were able to move into one of the original historic rooms with the curved brick ceilings and shuttered windows facing streetside. It was not as quiet but we didn't mind....once you close windows and shutters, the street noise is significantly reduced. We were there for the historical experience and while the rooms were nicely appointed, the style was a bit executive airport and less consistent with the beautiful old surroundings.

Hotel Principal is perfect! Location is perfect, right in the center of historic El Centro ! You can walk to all the attractions- walk to massive shopping - walk to food galore! You can rent a bike and ride Avenue Reforma on a Sunday! The hotel is very clean and comfortable! Beautiful hotel inside ! The staff was fantastic! Need directions? Recommendations? Taxi? You name it they’ll get it ! I love this hotel. I’ve stayed here twice and never disappointed! Strongly recommend!

Absolutely nothing!

The rooms were clean and spacious. I was able to leave luggage after check out time before continuing to my next destination. The hotel is in the middle of downtown historic district and the streets were safe in evenings and early morning.

The reception staff spoke limited English which wasn't a real problem as we could get by with limited conversation about check in and luggage. I wasn't able to get information about local sites or attractions from the front desk or any maps, but as I had google and data available this wasn't a big problem.

Have been staying at the Hotel Principal for more than a decade and always recommend it—the location can't be beat and the service is excellent. Rooms are a little dated but clean, and the wifi is decent. Management has invested a lot of funding in improving the hotel over the past few years, and it shows.

Beds are a little firm for my taste and the TV didn't have a streaming option—but the wifi was good enough that I could watch whatever on the computer.

Loved staying here. Such a clean and cozy space to stay in. Very beautiful. El Zocalo is around a 8 min walk. The metro station is nearby there as well. The airport was convenient too. All the staff are friendly and are available to accommodate your stay. Breakfast was included, everything was delicious. Will stay again if around. Also they have a seating area in the lobby with charging stations which I loved. Also they are able to hold your things before and after check out at no cost.

Very clean, historic old building, central to historic center of Zocalo and Constitution Square. Many instrumental music stores on Calle Simon Bolivar on which hotel is located. Safe for walking and travel connections. Daily housekeeping, hallways constantly being maintained clean by staff. Very helpful desk staff, particularly in arranging for departure taxi to airport. Very pleasant rooftop terrace for breakfast, courteous and helpful waitstaff. Also excellent restaurant Parilla Leonesa next door, pleasant staff there as well. Nice interior atrium.

Price a little higher than comparable nearby, but reviews seemed to indicate that Hotel Principal was consistently cleaner, thus my choice.
