Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, lovely food prepared by Chef Reese.

Partial lake view rooms on 2nd level balcony all over look hotel next door literally 2ft away and almost attached to property. Babies screaming, load music and has large florescent lights affecting views. Complete blindsided by this and unsightly. Not sure why no one else mentioned this in there reviews and not reflected on website photos. Attached photos. Also major issues with tour they booked me on… long story, lost 5 hrs waiting for boat and had to sit on the floor. Made the best of it but hotel needs to follow up with vendors and make sure clients are picked up it they’re making the arrangements. Odd setup for meals to accommodate all guests.

The property is intimate, with very attentive and friendly staff. It is well-designed with beautiful vegetation and lighting and use of organic materials and colors. The orientation is East/slightly Southeast, giving you a majestic view of the daybreak and sunrise over the spectacular Bacalar lagoon— which you can jump into or step into right off the private dock and pier. We enjoyed daytime and nighttime swims by the pier and it was exquisite. The showers had fantastic water pressure and plenty of very hot water— a rarity in this area! And felt soooo good after the long day out on the lake and hot sun. The in-house restaurant’s breakfast foods were great— beautiful amd generous fresh fruit plate with homemade yogurt was the best I’ve had in a very long time.

We did our research and we knew this, but since people don’t research properly and then complain inappropriately, I will leave one note here- the hotel is NOT WALKABLE TO THE TOWN. You will need a car. We had a car, so I have no information about availability of other transportation. Just know you are not “in town,” you are about 2km North of town.

Puerta del Cielo is the best hotel one can find in Bacalar. We were 2 couples who booked 2 rooms with lagoon views and we were mesmerized by the beauty of this hotel and the atmosphere. When we arrived, they immediately opened the doors to paradise, carried our luggage and we were greeted by all the employees which seemed very personal, friendly and made us feel incredibly welcomed. We received a welcome drink, did our check in and then received a tour of the hotel grounds before heading to our rooms. Let me just say that this is without a doubt the most beautiful boutique hotel one could possibly find not just in Mexico but probably anywhere. The bar, the path that stretches throughout the hotel, the pools (one next to the bar and the other one overlooking the lagoon), the balconies, rooms, the view, staff, the dock, EVERYTHING is perfect! There is quiet jazz music playing in the background in the patio and everything is just perfect! We also loved the idea of not having the typical breakfast that we received in 5 other hotels while traveling around Yucatan and Q.R. Every 4 and 5 star hotel would offer the same thing every day, which after 2 weeks becomes a bit dull and P.D.C. was a perfect little break from the usual routine. They don’t offer rooms with breakfast included. You get a menu (which is very good with lots of options) and you order through Whatsapp all over the hotel. You just write what you want and where and they bring it to you. And the food - WOW, they work so hard for every single dish!!! Also, a lot of staff would remember who we were and would call us by name which I really appreciate. We even had a dinner on the dock and it was our favorite dinner in our lives! We were greeted by our chef who recommended the catch of the day and it was delicious! I/we want to come back to Puerta del Cielo many times and just hope to have the opportunity to do it.

The staff were so incredibly helpful. It was the best room service we’ve ever experienced, they went above and beyond to make the stay magical. The food at the hotel was delicious. Victor the Head Chef was incredibly friendly and insightful, you can tell he cares a lot about food!

We booked a boat tour through the hotel, and when the boat tour arrived the tour guide only spoke Spanish, which we didn’t. So we didn’t understand any part of the tour. It would have been good to have been told about this beforehand - but otherwise it was perfect!

Absolutely beautiful and romantic hotel. Stunning exteriors with beautiful decorations, pools and decks. Looks just like the photos! I got proposed to here and it was such a lovely experience. It was at the hotel's lovely palapas and we had dinner there afterwards. The deck is also so wonderful to watch the sunset and a lovely space to spend time. I loved our lagoon view room it felt like waking up to a nice dream. The room service also didn't come at an extra cost so it was great to order breakfast to the room as well as drinks and late-night snacks. Food was all really good here. The staff were all extremely attentive during our stay. Communication via whatsapp was really convenient. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nothing really. If I had to say something the soap in the shower could have been a bit better and maybe communication prior to the visit could be a bit faster but it wasn't a big deal compared to the wonderful experience we had there.

Just stunning - an absolute gem just on the outskirts of Bacalar town. Gorgeous place, attentive staff, a haven for relaxation. Be sure to be driving / take a taxi if you want to go to town, however not problematic at all. Room service has no surcharge, which really encourages you to use it - and the dishes are delicious. Picturesque.

No property owned kayaks / paddle boards but they rely on an external provider. Paid full fee for 2 boards, out of which one was leeking and one paddle also broken. We asked about this immediately but never heard back / got discounted.

We came here for our honeymoon and had the most amazing time. Our room was upgraded to the water suite so we had the most amazing view of the lake and spent so much time at the room admiring the view. The service is A+ and they have a whatsapp number to text with any enquires or food service, super reliable. The food was delicious and one night we had dinner alone by the water and had our steak cooked in front of us - just wow. It’s a short taxi ride into town and they will arrange the taxi for you so it was no trouble. If I’m ever lucky enough to visit this beautiful place again I will be staying at this hotel!! Thank you guys so much for making our stay so memorable.

Beautiful property right on the lake with tasteful design and two pool areas. You can jump from the pier into the lake and have dinner on the waterfront. We loved our Lakeview room and had breakfast on the terrace each morning. The food was incredible and our highlight! Each meal was a theatrical experience and the staff go above and beyond. We loved that the steak is cooked right in front of you on a hot salt slab.

Not all the staff spoke English but I don’t think you could expect this from a small town - we got by with google translate just fine. The cocktails were quite sugary for our taste.

The service is exceptional. All the staff made me feel like I was at home. It’s a small hotel where they keep an eye on you and your needs. The staff always have a smile and do their best to make your stay comfortable. It was January 6th and they made a rosca de Reyes as a courtesy for the guest. The hotel is beautiful and the food is also excellent. We took a tour by the lake and they boat picked up us at the hotel’s dock. I have travelled the world and yet, this has been the best service I ever got. I highly recommend a stay here.

The air conditioner was next to the bed so it was hard to sleep with the air on the whole night.
