Family of four, two 9 year olds. Stayed for a week in March 2024. We like this resort. Here are some things that make it different than the typical Cancun resort that we liked:   We rented a 3 room suite (two bedrooms and living room, with kitchen) for the price of a single room at other places. For families, this is a key feature. It is smaller scale and much more chill. Lots of children. Retirees. Few to no 20-30 year old adult friend groups looking to party. Spanish colonial inspired architecture. White walls, red roof, open hallways (sorta like loggia) gardens and courtyards, tile floors. Lush vegetation in these interior courtyards and gardens. This is the part of the hotel we like the best. We like to be around plants and flowers, and do not like glass and concrete hotels. Beach is north-facing, not east-facing like most hotels. The beach is **much** smaller and the water much shallower and no waves. When the east facing beaches are closed for high surf, you can comfortably let a toddler play on this beach. Make sure you get a room facing inward or towards the water, not opening to Av. Kukulkan - the very busy and noisy main road.

We have few complaints. Here are two which are minor: Food is fine, acceptable, but boring. Breakfast is far better than lunch or dinner. Everyone wants a tip for everything, which is an irritant.

This resort was perfect for our family trip with 3 adults and 2 teens. The suites were very comfortable and as advertised. The entire resort is spotless. The location is 2 blocks from the ferry and easily accessible for the the bus to take you around town. The buffet was clean and varied from day to day. Food is available 24/7. The staff is welcoming and kind. Loved that they provided complimentary 20 min shuttle to their sister resort (The Royal Sands) and that we were covered by the all inclusive there as well. Bigger pools, better ocean, more eateries.

Only downside is the beach in front of the resort is weedy. But a couple steps down the beach it is shallow and clear so it didn't really affect our stay. There is no night time activity but that wasn't something f we were looking for.

The resort staff take such pride in keeping all grounds immaculate. It was truly one of the best places my family and i have stayed. The restaurant staff were wonderful and extremely attentive to our needs. Adrian at the Palapa restaurant indeed great to us and our needs. Unfortunately the beach as it was full of seaweed not a reflection of the hotel as their crew would pick it up every morning with wheel barrels so not their fault but it just had limited swim areas at the beach.

The room is very convenient. Two separate bedrooms plus a murphy bed in the living room. Also a nice kitchen which came stocked with bottled water and drinks and coffee for the mornings. I also appreciated that they had a great "on boarding" experience -- someone took the time to show us around the resort, explain all tour and food options, and help us get situated.

The beach in that area is very calm, almost like a pool, which is really nice for kids, but the water is not the beautiful blue that you hope for in Cancun. The main restaurant is on a covered outdoor patio area, so while it is nice that it is overlooking the beach, it is also very hot and humid and doesn't make for a comfortable dining experience. They also offer room service which is included with the all inclusive package, but it takes a long time. There is one more restaurant which is much nicer, though not as scenic, but you do need to make a reservation for it.

All the facilities were clean, the suite was very comfortable. The location is good, you can take the bus to town or the party area and then when you return it's a great place to relax and have some quiet time. Having the free shuttle to take you over to the Sands resort was very good, as you can go hang there for the day, play in the large ocean waves and party, then return to tranquil quiet of the northern hotel zone in what I would call the bay area.

I wish they had a few more wait staff working the pool and beach areas, but it was still good service.

The resort was smaller compared to the resorts in the hotel zone. However, it also provided a very wholesome family atmosphere. The kids loved the intimate setting it had to offer. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our concierge, Carlos, made sure that all our needs during our stay were met. Pedro, the bartender, at the pool bar was very friendly and provided the best mixed drinks the place had to offer.

Food can be improved.

The beach was beautiful and the pool was very nice. The swim up bar was a nice touch. Our room was a perfect size for 3 adults. We had plenty of room and the extra sink in the bedroom was a very nice surprise. The balconies were over the adult pool which I liked. The only thing I can think of that was not a great plus was the restaurants. The choices were not many and the food was okay but not great. And not really any other choices that were within walking distance. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the friendly staff we interacted with.

Nice resort with a relaxed atmosphere unlike many other Cancun resorts. The rooms are spacious and clean. The Trattoria restaurant is great! Easy access to Isla Mujeres as the Xcaret ferry is only a few minutes away from the resort.

Even if you have the all-inclusive package, the waiters expect you to tip for everything. They will ignore you and not take your order if you don't tip generously at every meal.

I liked that it wasn’t huge. And the dock into the ocean was a huge hit with my family! I would def come her again!

The beach had a lot of seaweed but it didn’t stop us from playing in the water all day!

This was our second visit to The Royal Cancun. Our first trip was in 2020 as a couple, when we stayed at three different hotels in the Cancun Hotel Zone. This time, we traveled as a family of three with our 2-year-old daughter. I specifically chose The Royal Cancun because it offered the perfect balance of shade from the sun, calm waters, and a more serene atmosphere—ideal for our little one. The hotel is family-friendly, clean, and spacious, with a more relaxed vibe compared to other resorts. The beach is gentle, not too rough, and the surroundings are peaceful, yet we had the option to visit the sister property, The Royal Sands, for when we wanted more active beach with bigger waves and wind. Every moment of our stay was wonderful. We were treated with such care and kindness, and the staff truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The cleaning staff, in particular, made our experience effortless, ensuring our trip with a toddler was more relaxing - I was impressed by the fact that every day our milk bottles were cleaned and for a week I didn't have to worry about this daily task! Our room was the perfect size for a family, providing plenty of space for all of us, and the entire hotel is impeccably maintained. I truly enjoyed every second of our stay at The Royal Cancun, and if we return to Cancun in the future, this will definitely be our go-to hotel. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
