Good location of the hotel (close to the beach and shops but away from the noise). Nice architecture and decoration (just a bit worn and unmaintained). Also room and bathroom interestingly architecturally designed. Nice amenities in the room. Good sleeping arrangements (bed and linen). Pleasant pool inside the hotel. Nice staff. During our second stay we had a much better room where the light was not working either, but it was fixed right away.

Everything's a little unmaintained. Shower needs fixing. No option (or hooks) for drying swimsuits and towels. Too bad the pool is time limited (10am to 9pm), we like to get in the water for a while to wake up, which is not possible at 8am. It would be enough if it was restricted for noise.

This is our second stay at the Matan Kaan. We love this hotel as far as location and the architecture of the hotel. It's well thought out, with public spaces to sit by the pool, browse a book in the outdoor reading area, eat in breakfast area, or sit outside in a rustic corner. A turtle water feature adds to the delightful outdoor touches. And the pool is large enough that several guests can use it at the same time. The beds were comfortable and the shower water was hot. The air conditioner worked perfectly and cooled the room nicely.

Our room could have used a bit of prior maintenance. The toilet seat was loose and the bathroom window screen was broken from its frame. Not all the rooms have window screens, so we changed rooms at the outset of our stay so we would have a screened window. This would not be an issue for someone who intends to just keep the air conditioner on and all the windows closed,, but we are accustomed to living in warm places and we like to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows for part of the day to bring fresh air in, even if it is warm.

Lovely hotel near the beach and restaurants. This well set out hotel has a lovely feel to it with lots of different areas to relax in whether it's by the large curving pool or on any level up the many open staircases. The roof top terrace is well worth the walk up and has another snalk pool and panoramic views of the ocean. The staff are helpful, friendly and always available. The rooms are ckean, spacious, comfortable and everything works as it should do. They are all colourfully themed. The whole place has been well thought out makes for a great place to relax and unwind. There is also a very reasonable restaurant which serves mexican food from breakfast through lunchtime. We'll book again if we come this way in the future.

After moving to our third room…The first one was not what I reserved. ZI reserved a room with two double beds and they gave me a small dark room with one bed. The second room was on the third floor nice however the Air conditioner was not working. The third room was on the first floor with a nice balcony much more comfortable but no water pressure in the shower, and the water heater leaked onto my leather boots! After all was said and done I had to pay an additional 60 dollars for the “upgraded room”. Seriously? The location is good and the rooms are clean if you are fortunate to have one of the experienced housekeepers who are dedicated and very good! Unfortunately we had a terrible young man actually come in the room and never actually cleaned anything. Left his dirty cleaning rag in the sink, used my personal face cloth to wipe off the counters and hung up our dirty wet towels from the floor. Thank goodness I was able to speak to one of the other housekeepers, Sandra and she came in and cleaned our room immediately and continued to be our housekeeper for the duration of our stay! Breakfast was not included in our stay, and I do not recommend that anyone include it if you are a coffee drinker! There is an excellent coffee shop around the corner called La Dolce Vita!

the room was nice, clean and very comfortable. The staff always helpful and friendly. Water pressure very good - that’s something that’s not always given in Mexico ;) there was free water to fill up bottles. very good located.

it’s a really big hotel with loads of rooms, but it was just sometimes loud, when guest were using the pool. and our room was just above it, so u could hear everything very clearly. the AC was quite loud so we didn’t use it. We felt pity for the turtles and crabs that are living there but we’ve been ensured they were taking care of.

Very nice guys nice pool, big fammily room, nice location, 2nd row from the sea, which means there is no beach club. That means no sun beds under umbrellas like the hotels in the front row. We ended up staying more days than planned, there were no cruise ships in the middle of July. A lot of animals (cat,frog,turtles…)

Hotel is basic, 1 towels per family.

Nice big room, very clean, good water pressure, nice tv, where u could log in with your Netflix account. different places to sit outside of the room. very good location and friendly staff. there was water in each floor to fill the water bottle.

very big place with lots of apartments. we were right above the pool (Pelicano) and u could hear the people in the pool as if they were outside the door. Hangers or something was missing to hang up wet (beach) stuff. We didnt like the area for the turtles and crabs.. we felt very bad for them having to stay there..

Friendly staff, lovely setting with lots of different spaces to explore and enjoy including the shady main pool, a jungle garden, a terrapin pool, various sitting spaces with plug sockets and a fantastic view of the beach, sea, reef and jungle from the wonderfully refreshing small pool on the roof with shaded sitting area too, awesome for sunset drinks. Big rooms all different and artistically designed, we have a balcony and plenty of room for our family of 4. Comfy beds, good air con and shower.

Not much really, the toilet flush was intermittent but I’m sure they fixed it straight away after our stay.

Loved the eclectic decoration. The hotel had lots of authentic Mexican elements dotted around and the room was bright and clean! Each room is named after a different Mexican animal. Overall a fantastic stay and good value for money compared with the other hotels and hostels in the same price range. Wish we had booked here for our whole trip.

The staff weren’t particularly friendly or welcoming and it was quite hard to communicate during check in as the lady at the desk couldn’t speak any English. But we managed! That being said, the staff definitely weren’t rude, just not very welcoming either compared with other places. but that seems to be the vibe at Mahaual in general 😅 we got the feeling that foreigners weren’t particularly liked.

The first impression upon arriving to this hotel is its architecture, curved lines in harmony with functionality. No doubt the Italian architect did a good job designing this hotel, the central location of the big swimming pool, the modern international art pieces and the roof details are paramount. Staff, as Jesus, was very friendly and always responded to our inquiries. Our stay of 10 days was very comfortable. The location is about 100 yards to the beach that had floating barriers for seaweed that affects beaches of Costa Maya. Nearby you will find many great restaurants, taxi stop right on hotel entrance, bus station about 200 yards away. The only downside possibly are the stairs if you are on the last floor (staff will handle your luggage), slightly slow WiFi (a problem in all Mahahual). We were lucky on our last day for they had announced electrical blackout in the city but we were not affected.
