Fantastic location. Wonderfully kind and thoughtful staff. Very clean. Good breakfast. Stunning views. Fabulous historic building full of character and artefacts. This place is a total bargain and ripe for upgrading and up-pricing. Visit soon! *More. We specifically asked for a room overlooking the harbour, knowing this is up six flights of stairs with no lift. The access to the hotel is on foot up many steps from the harbour. Again no problem for us. We travel light, are prepared for a little effort and reasonably fit. *Tip: If you have mobility issues or can't travel without big luggage, try a different hotel.

Facilities are dated. Maintenance is a little haphazard (think broken or missing handles). At the front of the hotel is a glorious view of the harbour and a grand public open space. Local people celebrate weddings *all night with music and chanting* in the square especially on weekends. If you want quiet, take a room that isn't facing front. Women may find some of the male staff communicating through your male companion. In our experience this is near universal in Morocco and the Muslim world.

This is a one of a kind, historical hotel built in 1870 with an amazing view from several terraces. Bear in mind it is historical and old and has seen grander days, and appreciate its history. Winston Churchill stayed here as did many. I would definitely recommend at least one night; you could just feel being a part of the past while staying here. The staff was very professional and old-fashioned, in uniforms. Breakfast was excellent compared to many of the other breakfasts I've had here, with a wide variety of choices including poached eggs, potatoes, stewed tomatoes, two types of croissant, and soup, and served on the highest terrace with a remarkable view out to the sea and the harbor. My room was nice, with a TV and air conditioner, and a large window to a terrace. The bathroom was large by Moroccan standards, and included a bidet.

My room was fine, but some reviewers have mentioned their rooms are musty. If you have allergies or don't like musty rooms, simply ask for a room without the mustiness. Again, my own room was fine. I'm very sensitive to mold, and I slept really well.

The hotel is a short walk from the ferry terminal and provides easy access to the winding alleyways of the Medina, where you'll find all manner of intriguing shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant gets busy so leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy the experience and the fabulous view. The room was clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning was most welcome. The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful.

The square below the hotel is a popular place for families even well after midnight, so it can get noisy. We stayed the night after a concert, and the crew dismantling the temporary stage tossed metal struts around for hours without regard for hotel guests trying to sleep, so bring your earplugs just in case.

The location is incredible and I'm sure the harbor views from rooms that people paid more for or booked earlier was great. The morning-sun view on the open, shaded breakfast patio was wonderful. The breakfast was adequate although it's obvious that they cater to Brits, but it's free/included in the low-season, under-$40 room rate so quit complaining. The Call to Prayer echoing through the alley my room windows opened over was hauntingly beautiful. The room was simple, but clean enough. The shower had a few mechanical challenges. There is no lift, though a genuine bellhop will carry your bags up the stairs for you. The hotel is on the top of a hill and there are plenty of steps to get to the entrance. (I didn't arrive by car so I don't know if there's a driveway at lobby level hidden somewhere.) If you're expecting modernity like digital keys and printed room receipts or email, you're in the wrong country. I had specified a view overlooking the harbor if possible, but I also booked at the last minute - literally on the ferry over from Tarifa - so I can't complain about them not achieving it given their busy occupancy rate.

This is a beautiful old grand hotel of (I guess) the 19th Century - with elaborate patterned tiling, charming corners and lounges and photos of famous people who've stayed there. It's the kind of place with porters who still take your luggage to your room. I had a fab room with balcony and perfect view over the port and the bay. The terrace below also has great views. You're already in the old town but also near the ferry (via the steps in front of the hotel). Breakfast from 7:30 in the cafeteria. Friendly staff. Just a great and fun stay

I walked along the esplanade from the train station but if I'd taken a taxi I realised it wouldn't have been able to take me to the door - because the hotel is up in the medina with its tiny streets - so you have to walk steeply up on the cobbles avoiding the mopeds... It's not a big problem though and very atmospheric - keep turning right - but maybe worth noting for less able people.

it is a magnificent 200 year old prprty occupying an extraordinary position looking out to sea! the Moroccan decor, the terraces and the scale is a joy to experience! service is limited and the menu needs an upgrade. but hey, Tangier is filled with amazing places to eat but there is only one continental!

i dont even mind the less than attentive waiters! it’s all good

I loved the location of the hotel. Right next to the port and very close to the Kasbah on the edge of the Medina. The history of the building is well preserved and there are some truly beautiful sights to be seen inside and on the balconies outside. The staff was always helpful and kind. The included breakfast was good and made it easy to fill up before getting out and exploring Tangier while also saving some money on meals. The room was cozy and the AC worked like a charm which was great on the warmer days. Only a ~20 minute walk to the beach if you’re up for swimming and tanning. I really enjoyed my stay.

The WiFi was a bit inconsistent and you will be walking up many sets of stairs inside and outside the building.

Its very close to the port and town, nice views of the ocean although our room was a small courtyard, as it takes a while to get through passport control it's nice that it was across the street. There is a large car park at the base of the hill, I parked my motorcycle there for the night after an Uber driver told me it was the only way, it was guarded as they always seem to be, cost 60 DM for the night and I gave the security guy 5DM coin. When you go to dinner make sure you get small change. Getting from the car park to the hotel was a lot of stairs, so be prepared, some motorcycles found a way to park at the top but it's a labyrinth of streets, I am sure they must have known someone there to guide them, I went around 4 times and could not find a way in so I am guessing they bypassed the fence or rode up stairs. Room was small and clean. Breakfast on the deck was good. Small Orange phone shop down the hill selling sim cards.

The stairs from the car park with luggage were tough.

This grand old dame is a slice of history in an absolutely fabulous location. If a genteel sense of yesteryear in an historic hotel is your thing, then the Hotel Continental is for you. If your tastes run to limitless satellite TV channels, luxury bath products and being whisked to your room in an elevator, look elsewhere, but if not, this charming hotel is a stand out. I’ve already booked my return visit.

Well, the seagull guano on the balcony setting cushions wasn’t a highlight. But then again, the fact that I had a balcony overlooking the terrace and marina certainly was.

Location is excellent, next to a very nice port area and a square with lot of openness. The hotel itself is a great historic site and has been around since 1870. The decor was very nice. The breakfast was good (however repetitive). It is in Madina with great experience of Moroccan culture. Several food places nearby and staff can help to locate it- although the narrow madina streets could be confusing so go around with someone or during day time with GPS

The room amenities were minimal with only TV in the room. The safe was non functional. Bathroom was ok but bit outdated
