Such a great place! The beds and room are really comfortable, plenty of showers and toilets. Perfect location, 1 min away from the beach and 5mins from bars. Super social and fun and met really nice people really easily. The tours were good too and amazing staff.

Heard not great things about the whaleshark tour, not specific to this hostel but didn't want to be contributing to the problem of treating whales badly

It was pretty good & comfortable. The room was big & relatively clean and the staff was nice. Our fan did not work but the staff did not really provide a solution. The A/C did, though its quite problematic bc it gets hot & cold. You have to request for cleaning so do not assume it will be daily cleaning. The location is pretty good, near the beach and near good food spots. They do have late Sat music nights which did not really bother us but just do take that into consideration. Another concern was that the toilet window can be opened from outside and wide enough for people to enter. Might be a concern for solo/girls travellers. Other than that we felt safe. The staff can arrange tours/guides & we had a good time for the Osmena Peak

Chief Mau is in a perfect location right on the main street of Moalboal, surrounded by restaurants, shops and beaches. All facilities work well and the private rooms are a great size with a large bathroom. The hostel has a nice restaurant/bar and a comfortable common area with a pool table and lounge chairs. Laundry service and filtered water is also offered to guests. All staff were so kind, welcoming, and helpful, always making the effort to know the guests by name, and recommending/arranging tours to local attractions. Chief Mau even had the cutest dogs and chickens living on the property. We enjoyed our stay so much, we were so sad to leave. We met so many wonderful people during our stay, which was a bonus. We recommend this place to anyone and will always come back if ever in Moalboal again.

Apart from the shower pressure (which was really low and made showering quite hard), everything was perfect.

The best accommodation of our trip around the Philippines! We got the studio room, which was really spacious and comfortable. The hostel is perfectly located in the Moalboal area, right next to the ocean and close to restaurants and shops. It has really nice vibes and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

The room has a small kitchen but there were no appliances or utensils. It would have been nice with at least a kettle (which we were finally provided after asking multiple times for hot water), a couple of plates and cutlery.

Staff were friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are clean and comfy. There are thick curtains and a lamp on your side for privacy, which is very convenient. It also feels safe even if it's a shared space. I also like their food and drinks :) very convenient too if I don't want to roam around to look for places to eat.

Airconditioning needs some fixing because even if we lowered the temp, room was still warm, plus with the thick curtains. Had trouble sleeping. All the dorms use a shared bathroom space, so it's a bit jarring to know men and women use the same showers and toilets. Bathroom is not crowded and the facilities are ok, but if you're wary of a shared bathroom, be mindful of this.

Very friendly staff and comfy bed! It was clean and modern. On the main road close to the beach but quiet if you don’t have roommates snoring :)

The water speed shower was too slow… window in top beds is very bright at sunrise. Activities price was too expensive for an hostel! They shouldn’t take advantage of their customers like this! Canyoning was 2300 while 10m away it is only 1800 (ppl paid 1600 in my group)… that’s a pity…

Everything was perfect : - The staff was super friendly and very helpful ++++, they made the planning of our daily activities much easier from small tips to private driver and car rental to take us to do the hike we wanted because it was a little far, we traveled as a group of 3 young women and have always felt safe - The common space is clean and very cosy to chill in the evening or during rainy days, with great things to order all day (drinks or food), the different breakfasts on the menu are DELICIOUS (from home made Shakshuka to home made mango pancakes) - The location is really great as well, right next to the main beach and many good restaurants (and one ATM machine right next to the hostel) - We had a private room for 3 with air con and a balcony, the room was very cosy and clean, our private bathroom as well

I booked one of the balcony rooms initially for 2 nights as my accomodation around the country for my budget for the first part of my holiday were less than impressive. After 2 hours here I extended for 3 more nights as this room was exceptional value for money. Very large room would suit 2 travellers and their luggage easily. Bathroom, water pressure etc. perfect. Staff super accomodating and social, couldn’t rate them higher. This is a well established hostel but if privacy is your thing the room is like a perfect mid range hotel. Stones throw from sardine run and diving companies. the best cafes, restaurants and night life but very quiet. Staying here was the best accomodation decision of my 4 week, 5 location holiday in the Philippines.

I had a private room (because - ehy not give yourself a little luxury from time to time), honestly this place can easily keep up with some 4 star hotels I've been. The rooms was absolutely amazing, the staff was extremely helpful, funny and nice. The food was mindblowingly good. They also have a nice community area upstairs where you can meet other travelers, and play dart and billiard. Location also 10 of 10 and still a quiet place for sleep. Would always go again.

We had an excellent stay at Chief Mau. I would rate it higher than 10 if it was possible. The bedrooms are great, plenty of space, not like other hostels where they cram in as many beds as possible. Beds were comfortable and private and you had a spacious locker to secure your valuables. Maricon the receptionist/ bar lady/ overall hero was amazing. She was fun and informative and helped us organise trips and tours. We did the canyoneering through the hostel and it was excellent. We lucked out and it was just us and one other couple, so we all got a guide each. The guides were fantastic. Big shout out to Dan, Mark, Jorje and Onix? (not sure of the spelling). This is one of the highlights of our SE Asia trip and it was largely due to how much fun and laughter we had with our guides. We got on with Dan and Mark so well, that after the tour finished we went snorkeling with them at the nearby beach and they got great footage of us swimming with a turtle. We also ate here several times and the food was always good. Be sure to try some redhorse, a strong but delicious beer.

The hangover I had when leaving was terrible 😂
