What an absolutely stunning traditional Japanese Ryokan. Nestled high in the mountains of hot spring resort we were welcomed in style with tea and cakes. The room was quite simply stunning with so many touches of tradition and elegance. Our own private hot spring bath was wonderful as were all the smaller rooms and balconies. We toured almost all of the many private and public baths on site and we especially enjoyed being able to share some of them as a family. The outdoor bath is an experience I will never forget. Our banquet meal was a treasure of new tastes and experiences and is an event that will live long in the memory. Thank you to all the staff who treated us like honoured guests. One night here just wasn’t enough.

I've stayed in my fair share of Ryokans over the years and they always look amazing but fall short at the food department. This Ryokan however served me the best possible food I've had in awhile, the food was AMAZING. The rooms were also equally as amazing. They were absolutely beautiful and had so much vibes. We loved the "forest" vibe of the hotel, it was an absolute joy walking through and exploring the hotel. The rooms were absolutely beautiful!
As a tattooed person, I could only use the private onsens. The only downside or upside for some is the private onsens all have windows, but you could actually look directly into the other private onsens if you stick your head out the window. The rooms however have alot of steps, so do take note if you're travelling with kids or elderly, or if you pee alot during the night.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Oyado Noshiyu, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The property grounds are breathtakingly beautiful, offering a serene and traditional Japanese ambiance that immediately puts you at ease. The private onsens are a standout feature—intimate, relaxing, and thoughtfully designed to provide the perfect escape. The staff at Oyado Noshiyu truly exceeded all expectations with their exceptional hospitality. Special recognition goes to Yuki, who was exemplary in every way, and the kind Vietnamese gentleman who ensured our comfort. Every single staff member we encountered made our stay memorable and unforgettable. We especially appreciated the consistently high standards in the service during our meals. Breakfasts and dinners were a highlight—meticulously prepared and served with such care that each meal felt like a work of art. The thoughtful touches didn’t go unnoticed, like being picked up and dropped off at the bus stop, making our journey seamless and stress-free. For anyone seeking an authentic Japanese onsen experience with the option to bathe privately or publicly, I couldn’t recommend Oyado Noshiyu more highly. It’s a gem of a place that perfectly blends traditional charm with world-class service. Thank you to the entire team for an unforgettable stay!

What's not to like? From the moment we entered the parking we were treated like VIPs. We're not used to that! The room with its own onsen was really spacious and quiet. The property is beautifully landscaped. We didn't try the public indoor onsen, but the outside ones were lovely. Meals were beautiful and tasty and the servers were so kind. We also got an onsen pass and tried some other onsen in the town the following day - highly recommend but not needed with all the facilities here. It was a really nice treat to stay here.

A truly nice ryokan stay - several rooms/houses, hidden among the trees, many options for bathing - two M/F outdoor onsens, and several private baths. We did not use the indoor onsen. Breakfast and dinner are worth themselves the stay, as they are really "rich", both in variety of the food and the colors :) Room was simple and elegant, more than big enough for two. The staff was very professional, polite and helpful. Hope that we visit the place again! Arrive here early, not just before the dinner, so you can enjoy the many onsen possibilities and sit down for a cup of tea among the trees.
Everything was great. Just be careful when arriving with the car - parking is at the top of a small street, and the main entrance is between the main street and the parking.

The five private baths were such a bonus! We tried 3 of them. Our room, while a bit rustic was AMAZING and our dinner was very good - the saki flight was a super way to try 3 different types.
Its a tough question - we really enjoyed everything - if we had to pick, the fact the chef would not accommodate a pescatarian diet was disappointing considering the price was almost $800 Canadian for one night including dinner and breakfast which had a few meat options my husband couldn't eat. We asked in advance giving plenty of notice.

Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu is very thoughtfully and beautifully designed with outstanding public spaces, providing a peaceful and calming Zen-like atmosphere for guests to enjoy. The multiple onsen baths available throughout the property include unique and clever design touches and features to make your onsen bathing all the more special. Our breakfast and dinner was served by a gracious host in a private dining room. Kudos to the chef for the kaiseki dinner and lovely presentation on fine Japanese stoneware and porcelain dishes. The scallop mousse as well as all of the other dishes that night were wonderful! We stayed in "Treehouse Konomi" which had a private Hinoki (cedar wood) rotenburo (open-air) bath just outside of our door and down the staircase. We also loved visiting the unique and rustic "Meoto Tachiyu" bath which is a private bath available to guests on a shared basis.
We recommend that you arrive early, take some time to explore the town, then spend from check-in until check-out enjoying the charms of Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu. If the management and staff at Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu happens to read this review, please consider dimming the lights in the "Tsuki no Yu" or "Moon Bath" so guests will be able to see the stars above at night. Anyways, we had a perfect stay! Arigatou Gozaimashita.

This may have singlehandedly been the best ryokan I've stayed at in my few trips to Japan to date. The ryokan's bathing facilities are top notch, and having visited a few of the other Kurokawaonsen ryokan onsen before checking in (making use of the Nyuto Tegata onsen-hopping pass, which allows you to visit up to three onsens within the limits of Kurokawaonsen in the course of a day), including Yamamizuki, I believe that Noshiyu's onsens are up there amongst the best. Turning to the food, the booth allocated to me/my room in the dining room both for dinner and breakfast was exquisite, alike the cooking and the high quality ingredients used for my two meals. My room (the Yamabuki) was one of the biggest I have stayed at at a ryokan, and has its own mini onsen. All in all, an amazing accommodation experience which met and slightly surpassed my expectations.
There was a minor issue with the toilet of my room, which I noticed only upon checking out, as I was using the restrooms of the onsens the previous day, but it didn't bother me at all for the same reason.

A nice little gem in Kurokawa. From the moment I entered the premisses I was very impressed! It has a nice rustic feel to it with some modern twists. The open air onsen was very nice and after you are finished you can relax outside in your yukata while enjoying the beutiful garden in front of the reception. The staff is very friendly and service oriented. They spoke english well, so it was easy to communicate. Dinner and breakfast was great. We were able to pay using credit card which was much appreciated. I can easily recommend this hotel!
