Though slightly old, and showing its age, there is a really nice, welcoming atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful (especially the young lady checking us in). We stayed in a washitsu (traditional Japanese style room with reet mats). We could lend a free yukata (Japanese bathgown) to go to the onsen (spa) in the nearby main building and were encouraged to wear it around town during the matsuri (festival). The onsen itself was simple but well kept and pleasant. Free tea, coffee and water is available for afterwards. Highly recommend.

Slightly old and showing its age

We loved the room style with small sitting area/balcony. The beds were very nice with good bedding. We used the associated hotel onsens , a short walk away. Excellent coffee was available 24hrs in he reception area. It was affordable, still at the tail end of Golden Week.

A little worn and we still had to walk a little ways for the larger onsens.

Wonderful place, they even helped me find a way out of the city after check-out (taxis and buses were stopped cause of the heavy snow)

It’s clean

It’s a bit old, but it’s still acceptable since it’s clean, and I have always wanted to experience staying in historical ryokans

The room looked lovely, had a spacious feel and nice outlook onto the foot onsen. From the room you could hear the stream running past the hotel.

Our room had a nasty smell to it which was similar to a fish shop. There was a lack of dinner options in Kurosawa Onsen unless you were staying at a ryokan that provided meals. As this hotel did not provide dinner, they left packet noodles in the room. It would have been better if the hotel stated that dinner was problematic in the town and then we could have brought food with us.

Just on the edge of town and walkable to all the other onsens through the pass. Free for guests include the onsens in the adjacent main Yusai hotel, which are much nicer that the ones inside this hotel. The room is clean and rustic, and not particularly luxurious.

There could be better storage and the japanese style room is one big space with lack of shelving. Temperature control of onsens inside the hotel was inconsistent, but just use the ones in the adjacent Yusai sister hotel if possible.

Comfortable bed, clean room, free cup noodles, very kind and helpful staff (got us a bus reservation for the next day)

Constant smell of cigarette smoke in the bedroom and toilet room, extremely loud neighbours, a bit worn down (door handle of the toilet door randomly fell off)
