Wow this boutique hotel was awesome. We really enjoyed our stay here - it is close to surf beach, with a great swimming beach out the front of hotel. We could also walk to the turtle point and the pool area although small was perfect for a cool off after relaxing by the beach. Views and sound of waves at night are wonderful. Rooms are loevely and decor relaxing beachy vibe. They are also room with great beds. Highly recommend.

Smeralda Beach Hotel is situated on a quiet stretch of Dikwella beach, a short tuktuk ride away from the popular surf town Hiriketiya. It’s easily accessible and has great facilities, the property is well kept and the pool is great. The thing that really makes this property however, is the staff. Never have I met a friendlier bunch of people, always greeting you with huge smiles and waves and genuinely happy to see you and converse. I would like to give a special shoutout especially to Nethmina, his attentiveness, kindness and overall determination to provide amazing service went above and beyond anything we expected. This combined with the properties location, food and amenities made this stay brilliant. Thank you Smeralda and thank you Nethmina! We will definitely return!

We booked Smeralda resorts at the last minute after Dickwella resorts and spa canceled our stay due to renovation works. It ended up being a blessing. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Smeralda annex. The staff is very nice. Pizzas are delicious, and we tried several types of breakfast, which were all amazing. They include capuccino or other coffee. The beach is great for kids. It is also a short walk to Turtle Beach. It was not busy in August. Wifi was good. Room was cleaned on a daily basis.

Smerelda is a very nice hotel on the beach. The staff were extremely helpful. The breakfast was superb- highly recommend including this in your stay. If you want the Sri Lankan breakfast option you must order the day before. The room was perfect and the shower was amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable and extra large. The view onto the beach and ocean was beautiful. We enjoyed the balcony and the air conditioning was excellent. On our last night we enjoyed dinner on the beach, which was noisy due to a New Year party nearby, but that was not the hotel's fault, it was just our bad luck. The food was very good, but be warned the crab pasta comes with a whole crab in the shell on top of it. The crab openers provided are not adequate as there were no long tools to take the crab out, and it was all in a sauce so incredibly messy and impossible to do by dim candlelight. However, the setting is lovely and romantic.

Be warned when booking, you are given a price, but on arrival there is an extra 25% on top!! 10% service charge and 15% VAT! We were shocked as that is a substantial amount and we felt it was pretty sneaky from the hotel. The beach is nice, but on either side of Smerelda there is a lot of garbage which is a real shame. There are far too many staff there, perhaps they should get them to clean up the garbage for 30 minutes each day, instead of standing around with nothing to do. It would improve the beach and also be a good look for the hotel. Lastly, the giant rubber swan in the pool lowers the look of the place, instead of it coming across as a high end boutique hotel( which it could), it makes it look like a children's playground or a campsite pool. The pool is small enough anyway.

Directly located on the beach, palm trees in front of the huge window, large balcony. Had a room on the second floor which was perfect to wake up to a dreamlike view from the window in front of the bed. Bed is very comfortable, all necessary amenities available, small boutique style hotel, very quiet room although hotel located directly on main road, nice little pool, 15min walk along the beach to Dikwella Beach bars, 10min walk to a beautiful neighbouring dream beach nearly untouched with hardly any tourists and a view sea turtles. A high-light! 15-20min walk into town for supermarkets, bank ... Friendly and helpful local staff.

Beach in front of the hotel not as inviting but if you walk about 10min. you'll find beautiful beach sections. A small river/nearby leading into the sea. Dirty towel in the room upon arrival and bathroom had a moldy smell. The hotel seems to have received a rough interior make over and compared to other premium beach hotels I stayed at in Sri Lanka, the room price was really too high (just saw it's now about 85 EUR which is absolutely fair and fine compared to the 120 EUR during high season) Also a bit disturbing was the immediate request to settle the total bill right away only a minute after arrival on site before even having seen the room or settled down.

We stayed at Casa Smeralda for two nights and it was a wonderful experience. The place is amazing—right on the beach, everything was clean and well-kept, and above all, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. We also had the chance to meet the owner and his wife, a lovely Italian couple who were always around making sure everything was just right. Breakfast was delicious, especially the pancakes and scrambled egg toast. The pizzas were also amazing. We’ll definitely come back. We were really sad to leave.

Great peaceful location right on the stunning beach, with terrific service from the team of eager young guys always ready to assist. The pool is excellent and kept really clean - quite a feat given its proximity to the beach. The food is very good and the team will go the extra mile by setting you a dinner table directly overlooking the beach. There was even good hot water in the bathroom basin - missing in a few places we’ve stayed in in Sri Lanka! Overall an amazing spot for a few days wind down after touring. Thanks to all for such a warm friendly welcome!

The decor of the rooms and public spaces (eg stairways and landings) is plain compared to other similarly priced Sri Lankan hotels we’ve stayed in over three weeks and could be updated. It wasn’t quite what we’d expected from the pictures. While our second floor room had an amazing balcony with direct sea view and the bed was very comfortable, the furniture inside (as in the restaurant area) is a little dated and tired. Fixing these things would take the property to the next level and add to what was a very positive experience staying in Dikwella. It would make it better value for money so I could rate it as excellent rather than very good.

Great bed exceptionally clean right on the beach.

Way too many staff hovering around with service too insistent and overbearing. In addition the pool is right next to where the large numbers of staff loiter and I never mind the missus didn't fancy that location for a swim. Talking to other guests they felt the same. Food was only ok not very good. Would I return? No.

Amazing location right on the beach. Fantastic view from the room and balcony, of sea sand and palm trees. Large, bright and comfortable and clean room which was tastefully furnished. Good facilities in the room including AC, kettle, tea & coffee. Nice welcome from the staff with a free welcome drink on arrival. Friendly and attentive staff. A nice garden and pool area in which to relax with plenty of umbrellas and loungers and bar service right on the beach.

Some fixtures were loose in the bathroom e.g. shower frame was not secured properly to the wall, posing a risk of injury. Lot of mosquitos in the corridor outside our room.(We were fine because we had our own mosquito net, but I imagine we'd have been eaten alive if not, since a mosquito net is not provided by the hotel) There is a hook above the bed to hang one, however. The restaurant is very expensive and the food very average for that price, but there are other places nearby serving good food at a fraction of the cost.

I liked the rooms, they seemed how they were portrayed in the pics. The food was good and the staff was very cordial and helpful. They knew how to take care of their guests. The beach was clean and you can enjoy a good walk across.. Overall, its a peaceful place to spend time with family and loved ones.

The pool was very small. Photos make it look different. Also, the rooms says beach view and yes it partially is. But there are 3-4 huge coconut trees blocking the view, so its just partial beach view.
