The location and possibility of parking in such a central location. A very historic property full of character. The breakfast. The nice hosts. The size of the room.

As other people have said the hotel does now need some internal improvement like new carpets etc. but I think it might be difficult to do this easily and inexpensively in such an historic property which perhaps would have some government regulations? The mattress certainly needed to be changed in our room as my partner and I had to 'climb' away from each other because of the dip in the middle of the mattress. Not a problem in your 20s but not in your 60s! :))

The hotel, dating from the 18th century, is situated on the hill in the historic area of Laon. It is unusual in all aspects. The rooms are lovingly furnished in a personal, quirky style which we liked. Our room on the 2nd floor was at the back of the building and very quiet. The hotel has been in family hands for many generations which is reflected in the care the owners take for the building, its furnishings and in the welcoming way they deal with clients. An excellent breakfast with home made jams and organic eggs is served in a cosy, comfortable room and the old restaurant which is not always open, looks fabulous.

The bed was a bit too short for my husband.

Historic and "quirky" hotel. Very friendly and welcoming staff, helping with luggage and chatting about the speckled history of the hotel which has been operating since 1680s. Excellent location inside the fabulous and historic fortified old town. Car parking available but very tight spaces. Breakfast was very good with a fair choice of things. The room was big and the beds enormous and very very comfy. Furniture most eclectic and the bathroom surprisingly modern.

Bit noisy on main narrow street but when new windows were closed, it was perfect for a good night's sleep.

We returned after 21 years! On both visits, we used the hotel as a last night stopover before the ferry, on the way back from skiing in the Alps. The building is a friendly family run hotel with a sense of gravitas, linking the past and the present. The owner has been there for 40 years and takes real pride in the business, which is something of an institution. The setting is reassuringly familiar somehow, typically French, with a sense of history and timelessness. It's comfortable, unique, relaxed, and homely, with a traditional feel, in a great historic setting, but with everything you'd expect from a modern hotel. Secure parking on the premises takes all the trouble out of visiting the urban centre.

No concerns, it's exactly as we remember and expected, hopefully we will aim to return soon, and not leave it so long between visits.

Our host was exceptionally friendly informative and made our stay relaxed and easy. The old town is quite compact with The cathedral within a 10 minute walk. We were rather out of season so that many places were shut but we still enjoyed the company of friendly locals in a bar and a superb restaurant for our evening meal as recommended by the hotel owner. (The hotel could not feasibly open its restaurant with so few guests at that time). laBanniere is ancient and charms you with its history, old world decor, and is so very provincial France .do not come here if you seeK modern minimalistic pristine amenities. We only stayed for one night enroute to the Alsace ,but allowing enough time to taste an experience this unique historic town.

Nothing given the value for money, charming host and unique experience. To want for more would mean paying more and missing out on the location. Some small parts of the hilltop town are rather run down and boarded up.

A great overnight stop 2 hours or so to Euro Tunnel. An historic quirky hotel in the city centre of an interesting town trying to improve itself with several restaurants and many ancient buildings. Great breakfast - wish I had purchased some of the home made preserves. Friendly owners. Would return as it is so convenient for a morning crossing home.

Bathroom was very dated but was clean and provided all you require for a one night stop. No airconditioning.

lovely location in centre of Laon and very helpful owners - told us about the fantastic son et lumiere at the cathedral and recommended a good restaurant as theirs was closed - that was the only real negative. Breakfast looked like it would be excellent but we didn't have time to eat before leaving. Will go back as there is lots to see in Laon and it is convenient for the motorway from Calais. Slept very well in the twin bedded room.

Restaurant closed and we had some problem with WiFi although it worked when the owner showed us the trick of turn wifi off and back on.

The location is spectacular, right in the citadel part of Loan, easy to asccess with satnav, parking available on site. Quiet 'old fashioned feel with spacious rooms wih all mod coms although the shower was a bit 'pokey', otherwise we slept well, were given a superb breakfast and gained a lot of detailed info from the hotel manager. The restaurant was open in the evening but a Brasserie just 50mtrs into town was fantastic. Great place to use as a first night stopover

All good, pity the restaurant wasn't open -too early in the year, starts June 1st, but local hostalries were superb and breakfast was substantial !

The hotel is 300 yrs old and in the city walls. Owners were really freindly and helpful. They could not have helped us more. Location was really good to visit the cathedral and other sites which were in easy walking distance. Breakfast was great. Accommodation was clean. Bed was very comfy. Hotel had great charactor. On the Francegena pilgrim walk which was why we went. The hotel helped us to arrange luggage transport for us along the route.

I liked everything. The old town is on a hill so if have any mobility issues get a taxi from the rail way station.

Splendid location, convivial and charming welcome. The breakfast was copious and varied, and we will most certainly visit again on our journeys through France from our new home in Spain, when revisiting England, 2 & 1/2 hrs to Calais. The Indian restaurant 1 minute away by shanks pony was also welcome, late on Sunday evening. Mark & Diana Pepper
