Friendly B&B backing on to the beautiful River Tavy a couple of minute's walk from the centre of this picturesque market town. The double room is compact, but everything was spotlessly and well equipped with tea & coffee makings, tv etc. It faced the road and I worried about noise on the hottest night of the year but they have it all sorted with triple glazing and a clever fresh air vent system plus a fan provided. The little ensuite likewise clean and well maintained. Paul and Carla are exceptionally welcoming hosts, accommodating any requests e.g. iron and ironing board set up for me in the spacious lounge within minutes of my asking, encouraging guests to make use of the lounge and riverside deck. The breakfast was great, served in a lovely sunroom overlooking the river. Represents excellent value in Tavistock where the other options are pricey. It's a lovely historic town on beautiful Dartmoor with gorgeous riverside parks, museum, heritage trails and an abundance of lovely cafes well worth a visit.
Nothing really. The en suite double room is small and faces the road but functional and the glazing reduces road noise. Maybe curtains could be more light proof.

The B&B is on the very edge of town. A few minutes walk and you are in the middle of Tavistock. The accommodation represents very good value for money. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The full English breakfast overlooking the river was excellent and the view an unexpected surprise. I would happily recommend Kingfisher Cottage to friends and family and would stay there again.
In order to give a balanced review then there are a few observations but these must be taken in context with the excellent value for money Kingfisher Cottage provides. The earliest check in was 5pm, personally we would like to have checked in earlier but we respect the hosts decision for this. Parking is at the front of the cottage, it is tight but with the hosts help it works. The bedroom and en suite were small but not disappointing. It was comfortable and clean, had all the amenities you needed and suited our one night stay.

My travel plans were such that I requested to book the accommodation with short notice. The host Paul was very accommodating, moving his own car out to allow me to put my small motorbike into the garage and he made me feel very welcome. The twin bedroom has a great view of the decking and river. The bathroom is spacious, clean and has a lovely powerful hot shower. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and I would thoroughly recommend to other motorcyclists doing the James Higgs (formerly the Great Western) trail. Paul provides plenty of advice and instructions for dinner options. There's also a helpful laminated sheet and local town map inside the room, in addition to a kettle with tea, biscuits and coffee. The breakfast taken in the conservatory was absolutely delicious. I recommend the Dorset tea.

We received a very warm welcome from Paul. His love of Tavistock and the surrounding area was infectious. The breakfast was lovely, including catering for gluten free needs. The view from the breakfast room over the river was delightful. Our room was cosy and warm and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was tiny but contained all that was needed for our stay. Paul helped us park safely on arrival. Paul was full of ideas and suggestions for places to eat and, if we’d wanted, places to visit including great walks etc. Tavistock is a lovely town.
Within the 4 walls of the property there was nothing to dislike.

The hosts are simply outstanding. Super helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Nothing is ever too much. The place is spotless, the breakfasts delicious and the location perfect for a quick stroll into town or a relaxing sit on the terrace overlooking the river. The rooms are small but comfortable and everything you might need is provided including dressing gowns!
Parking is available but very tight and did require some careful juggling of cars depending on who needed to leave. That said, Paul was super helpful in making sure this was meticulously managed to avoid inconveniencing anyone. Top tip would be not to come in a big car if possible. For me this was no issue since I was happy to leave my car tucked in the corner and walk everywhere.

We received a very friendly and comprehensive welcome from our host Paul who was also extremely helpful in recommending local facilities and cycle routes; he gave very safe garage storage for our bikes. The house was comfortable: the breakfast delicious, looking out on a lovely river and patio. The situation on a main road roundabout is noisy but there is triple glazing and air conditioning in the rooms.
The smaller of the double rooms was lacking in space beyond the bed: the on-suite bathroom was a bit awkward.

What a little gem of a place. Great hosts, nothing too much trouble. Situated by Vigo Bridge, easy walk to Tavistock centre, able to park there, and although our room was small, it was comfortable, cosy, pristine & had everything you could need ( including bathrobes & a fan) with a modern private bathroom. The breakfast was delicious,& filling. This place is fantastic value for money. I would return in a heartbeat.
5pm earliest check in may not suit those who don't know the area. It was fine for me as I used to live in the area & know parking places and things to do despite the weather. Breakfast is between 8am & 9am, and Check out is by 10 am. This can also be rather early for people looking for a relaxing break, or visitors going to live concerts in the town or in Plymouth. But if you don't mind ditching the lie in, this place is a gem.

Paul was very helpful. I arrived wet and bedraggled after cycling in the rain all day. I was able to hang up my wet gear and hose down my bike. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was clean and comfortable and I had everything I needed. Breakfast was spot on. Located a short walk from restaurants. Plenty to choose from for dinner. I had a good night's sleep and left well rested ready for the next leg of my journey.
There was nothing that I disliked.

The central heating worked. The shower worked. The breakfast was enjoyable. The TV worked. The Wifi was good. The secondary glazing was effective.
I always like to have a chair but the room wasn't big enough to accommodate a chair. I was pleased to be to sole user of the room as it wasn't big enough for two people. The ensuite was very small. The basin was too small to use for washing. The check in time is a little late and the check out time is a little early.

The host Paul was very accommodating and friendly. The place was easy to find. The bedroom and beds were comfortable. The outlook over the river was lovely. The breakfast was amazing, cooked to perfection. Value for money was absolutely spot on. On behalf of my brother's who I booked into Kingfisher Cottage and have written this from their viewpoint, they would definitely recommend to others.
Just some noise coming from room above the twin room..
