In 15 years of backpacking this is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. A great rest day on the South West Coast Path and one of only a few value for money hostels - if only there were more like this in Bude etc.

The arrival system is quite grumpy - if you've had a long journey you're technically not allowed to enter the property until 4pm. This is really uncommon in hostels / hotels and doesn't match the vibe of the hostel. I think if you have a booking (and can show you have) as a soft welcome you should at least be able to drop your stuff off so you can go out and enjoy Ilfracombe. Especially if you've had a few muddy and wet days on the SWCP.

Jimmy, Ross,Mona and Alex are a great team that take real pride in the hostel. Friendly with each other and the guests they keep the place clean and spotless. Very responsive to any concerns and look to resolve immediately. I had a lovely stay in ilfracombe and felt very comfortable at the hostel. I really recommend a visit. Great place. .

Quaint hostel - Good location - Warm welcome - Friendly staff - Nice house plants. Stayed twice (once before going to Lundy and once coming back). First stay in a family room was okay. Second stay on top floor double room was much beter! I have stayed in literally 100s of hostels all over the world and this was one of the better ones.

Was surprised to not have bath towels included with a £75/night private room. We were told we could pay extra to rent them, but this bugged me and so I ended up just using the hand towel instead... I understand renting them to dorm guests, but when paying a premium for a private room it's kinda expected to have bath towels provided.

Jimmy was so accommodating, and so friendly! everything was very clean, and so much larger than we expected for a back packers. The communal areas are brilliant, with games books and chill out areas. Even outdoor place for surfboards, and washing wet suits. Ideal for our trip! I would absolutely return!

Only 2 minor things. we found the mattresses really hard and the Church bell chimes on the hour every hour, even throughout the night right outside our window, but on the second night, none of this bothered us.ayne we adjusted quickly or had a really full day of surf and sea! Despite this I would absolutely stay there again.

Very lovely, friendly hostel - the kitchen is a good size and has everything you need. Lovely decoration and bright colours everywhere throughout the hostel, it's very cute and homey. There wasn't much of a social vibe when I visited, might have been the time of year or perhaps it's just not that kind of hostel. Great if you just want an affordable place to sleep for a night or two in the centre of Ilfracombe.

The pillows weren't super comfy on my bed (top floor single room). It was only one night so I was OK but if you're staying longer it could be an issue. Also I forgot that towels aren't included so remember you need to bring your own or pay to rent some.

I had the single room. Getting the entry codes on the day worked very well. The room was warm and comfortable. The bed and pillow exceeded expectations and I had a good nights sleep. I always carry ear plugs when staying away and it seems they worked well as I didnt hear the chiming bells as others did. I helped cook breakfast for 12 fellow travellers and the kitchen facilities were very good and met our needs.

Location was good and walkable to everywhere. Staff were friendly. Big kitchen where you could prepare your own meals with a large lounge area for chilling out. Free tea and coffee with a free help yourself area to use front checked out guests. Dormitory was big with comfortable sleeping. Separate toilet and shower room in the hallway. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location and lovely place to call home for 2 nights. We had a family room and whilst the double bed was super uncomfortable as u could feel every spring, the singles were very comfortable. Great and clean bathroom and lovely big kitchen.

Single glassed windows meant that it was a little noisy. The room could have done with some hooks on the walls to put clothes up.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay in Ilfracombe , very friendly, happy host who provided us with lots of info n welcoming smile . we have had beautiful , specious en-suite room with sea view , fresh decor made us feeling very welcomed , downstairs facilities to chill out and make own food(well equipped ) . WiFi worked brilliantly no faults . Ocean backpackers is located in the heart of town - very closed to all attractions . Very enjoyable short break . Def recommended 👍💯 would book back again

You're smack bang in the middle of town so location for price was amazing. A bus stop is less than a minute walk away which was super helpful for me as I was doing a lot of bus catching and meandering in the area. Hostel has a lovely wee communal living room and kitchen (fully stocked with amenities to use for cooking) that feels so homey. Bathroom facilities are clean and well maintained. Plenty of space for bags in dorm rooms with the option of a locker. Jimmy, the manager, was so friendly and welcoming and really set the tone for the hostel's atmosphere.This made the stay so much better as a solo female traveller- probably one of the most friendly hostels I've ever stayed at.

I've slept in comfier beds, otherwise nothing!
