This property is beautiful and unique. The room was comfortable with strong AC and the shower had consistent warm water and strong water pressure. We were warmly welcomed by the owner/operator of the hotel, and felt very safe during our stay. The location is convenient to several restaurants and a really nice park in the heart of Alajuela, and is close to the airport and Adobe car rentals. My favorite part was the breakfast. The breakfast alone was worth half of what we paid, which was already a very reasonable price. If we get the privilege of returning to Costa Rica, we will stay here again.
The only thing was that the parking situation was a little confusing, as there is parking available but it’s a separate process to reserve it. This is not the hotel’s fault but more so a head’s up to readers of this review so that you don’t miss that step like I did. The plus is that there is a public (and very secure) lot a short walk from the hotel!

The hotel was clean and of historical interest. The staff was very kind and helpful. I especially liked how quiet the hotel was at night. I have stayed in places too close to the airport and have been awakened by planes taking off. This hotel is about 10 minutes from the airport, and no flights woke me up in the middle of the night. Another thing -- the dining room for breakfast is very lovely, with one wall covered in plants. The breakfast itself had a pleasant variety of items on the plate.
I didn't get to explore the restaurants near the hotel. I have heard they are close by. I hope this is so.

The location a couple blocks from the Alajuela plaza/town square was so much more fun than expected. I spent the afternoon at the free museum on the plaza which had an exceptional artist exhibit as well as fun exhibit on Costa Rican history. There is also a great restaurant (artisanal foods) which has a great atmosphere and delicious food 2 blocks from the hotel. The early morning taxi to the airport was 5 minutes. If you want to spend your last afternoon in Costa Rica with a historical and locals vibe, stay at the Hotel 1915. The hotel itself has a old spanish mission feel and very cool boutique vibe.

Great location only a short walk to the square, cathedral, and Juan Santamaria museum. Many restaurants nearby. Maybe 10-15min drive to airport? Friendly staff. Room 21 has nice terrace with beautiful view. This would be a good location for visiting the area around San Jose without traffic getting in/out of the capitol! It was less than $10 uber from San Jose back to the hotel during peak hour. Many thanks to hotel 1915 for arranging a taxi to collect me at horrible hour of 2:45 for a morning flight!
Only regret is only staying one night & sadly I couldn't stay for breakfast because my departing flight was ridiculously early in the morning.

The staff were very friendly. We were struggling to drop the luggage because we had to run to the car rental to drop the car and the person at the front desk quickly jumped and helped me with the luggage and did a very fast check in. The room was comfortable, good size, only missing a small mini fridge in my opinion. The breakfast was included and had a good selection: tipico with Gallo pinto, American with toast, bacon and eggs, pancakes, french toast or even omelettes. It was just the right place to stay before departing the next day via San Jose Airport.

Very nice hotel, based on a private 1915 house. Nice freshly made breakfast. Stayed here twice, on arriving and on departure. On arrival, we took a taxi from the JSO ($10 including 1.5 tips for ~8 mins ride). On departure I needed to return a rent-a-car before 6am, so Needed to leave hotel at 5:45am. I wasn't counting for breakfast, but was suggested fruits + coffee at 5:30am. And they packed for me toasts and eggs to go. That exceeded my expectations! Parking: they have few spots at the property. But you need to book those in advance. If no spot available - there is a parking (24/7) just 2-min walk from the hotel. $7 per night.
You do hear some street noises. Especially motorcycles. Ear plugs solve that problem.

In all areas, I give the highest scores I've ever given. Many travelers prefer "less risk" and will go to someplace like Fairfield Inn or a Holiday Inn Express, because one can have more confidence that everything will be as expected. With a smaller boutique place like 1915, I understand why risk-averse folks will not give it a try (they will stick with the Fairfield Inn and will eat at Denny's because they get what they are accustomed to). A beautiful building built in 1915, and the inside is gorgeous. I loved the common areas where I planted myself when I was working on the computer. I loved the location--I ditched my rental car and came back with a taxi, because Alajuela is a place for walking. I love the location and the walks....such great little restaurants and shops. Great breakfast. FAbulous staff that really looked out for me.
No issues.

We really enjoyed the kindness of the staff at Hotel 1915. We appreciated that it was family owned and had authentic old-Costa Rica charm. The room was comfortable and the free parking was really ideal -- especially in a rain storm! We felt safe here as three female travelers.
The bed was a bit stiff compared to other places we stayed and the wi-fi was spotty - which could have been due to the storm coming through. Overall, these small things did not outweigh the positive things this hotel brought.

A hidden gem! The hotel inside is lovely, so unexpected to see an historic building on the other side of the entrance. The owner was so friendly and helpful, she recommended some great food close by and booked me a taxi to the airport for the next day, she even got up at 4.30am to make sure I was set! I was traveling alone - the hotel and neighborhood was very safe. The room was super comfortable also. Great find, I would 100% return.
Nothing!

We were doing the whole "just flying in and passing through" thing for Alajuela but still wanted to visit the city, and this was a perfect choice for our short stay. We couldn't ask for a better location (couple minutes from town center) and the hotel itself was inviting and comfortable. The breakfast was a highlight on both mornings, in a cute sheltered open air space and delicious with fresh fruits and cooked rice/beans/eggs.
The only "shortcoming" I could say is that the room doesn't come with many amenities (e.g. face towels, hairdryer, kettle if you're looking for those things) but the helpful staff more than make up for it because they'll work to get anything you ask at all hours.
