Suitable for travelers looking for a ryokan-style accommodation near Jigokudani, offering a peaceful, beautiful, and clean environment with delicious food and excellent service. This place is perfect for an exceptional new experience. 1. I received excellent service and a wonderful experience from the hotel staff. Most of the staff can communicate well in English and are great service-minded. 2. The rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet—ideal for travelers seeking privacy. Onsen is clean and beautiful, allowing guests to soak while watching the changing autumn leaves. 3. Private kaiseki meals are meticulously prepared with premium ingredients and are very delicious, with hotel staff providing guidance throughout the dining experience. 4. Breakfast is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and guests can enjoy the view of autumn leaves while dining. 5. The accommodation offers a public onsen, yukata, and a souvenir shop, providing a comfortable and convenient stay.

Location is good. Great starting point for a nice hike up the road to the trail start so you can visit the hot spring lake and also the Hell Valley" on the way back down and in to the village of Noboribetsu. Dining was superb for both breakfast and dinner. Each evening meal is in a small private room and the food was very varied and fabulous.

The private hot tub on the balcony had too much sediment on the bottom and sides. The sediment from the hot spring sources is supposed to be good for the body and skin but the amount that accumulates in the private tub is far too much and should be removed from time to time. The public baths are very nice and the water is relatively sediment free.

For the traveler craving the traditional ryokan and kaiseki experience but hesitant about shared facilities, this offers the perfect balance. It's expensive, but it delivered everything we expected and more. Our Japanese tatami room was warm, spacious, and felt beautifully vintage, offering a glorious view of the autumn kōyō. The staff were friendly without being overbearing, and the kaiseki dinners were intricately presented, delectable and truly memorable. We contacted the hotel in advance with a long list of dietary restrictions for my wife, and their accommodation was genuinely surprising—her meals were planned perfectly and were in no way inferior to the original menus. Our private onsen deserves a special mention. Having access to the crisp autumn air, with steam shimmering on the surface and the strong, pervasive scent of sulfur filling the air, was absolute bliss. We loved the charming, thoughtful details: a head and neck massager in the room, complimentary drinks, daily sweet treats, and high-quality skincare like hyaluronic acid serum and cream. The way our futon beds magically appeared at bedtime and disappeared after breakfast added a touch of genuine ryokan elegance. The Toho Resorts shuttle bus was also reasonably priced and incredibly convenient.

These are more helpful warnings than true drawbacks. This is not a modern hotel with contemporary amenities; it is a luxury establishment rooted in authentic Japan, designed for locals rather than international tourists. You may call it dated, but we found it vintage. Correspondingly, the staff speaks very limited English. We used a translator app, however, and received fantastic service, proving that a little effort goes a long way!

Staff was attentive from the moment we arrived, welcoming and conversant in English. The hotel location was great - walking distance to the town and Jigokudani site. Parking was plentiful and free. Breakfast and dinner were good and they made the effort to present us something different for our second day stay. We had our own little hotspring bath in our room and that was nice.

Some parts of the room looked worn and the furnishing was a little too spartan. Everything in our Japanese style room was low lying and at our age, we struggled a fair bit getting up and down. The room was also a bit too warm and we were unable to adjust the aircon to match what we preferred.

We liked the traditional ryokan feel of this hotel with our very own private onsen. Room was very spacious and comfortable. The private kaiseiki dining experience was enjoyable. Food presentation and quality was way above our expectation. Sayaka, served us during our 2 dinners and she was friendly and patient while explaining in English the various foods served. In the morning, breakfast was served to us at our table and there was also a side buffet if you needed more food! Hotel staff are generally quite cheerful. The main reception staff can also speak English and helped answer our enquiries when needed. Besides our private onsen, we also enjoyed the hotel's public onsen facilities. The outdoor rock garden onsens are also quite breathtaking!

The private onsen wooden tub needs more upkeep. It was a bit slimy. Not sure if it is caused by the natural mineral build-up of the water.

All staff members were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The staff at the front desk who completed the check-in for us could also converse in English and ensured we understood the hotel offerings and the surrounding attractions. The facilities were clean and the food was also superb. We also enjoyed the private onsen experience! There was very little to fault with Ryotei Hanayura, and we would happily return to this hotel again!

We had the opportunity to sleep on futons on the tatami floor which was quite fun. Those travelling with the elderly or individuals with mobility difficulties may need to consider this factor prior to booking. This is not a criticism of the hotel, rather, a gentle reminder as this is all part of the authentic Japanese experience!

Great first time ryokan experience for one of my friends. There is a 1000 yen shuttle service one way to/from Sapporo (TV tower near Odori Park) that will save you some money and hassle. Private bath and delicious dinner were the highlights of the stay. A short walk to the Hell Valley area. Free drinks including 4 bottles of water, 2 beers and 2 teas in the room. The futon was super comfortable, better than a western bed!

Breakfast was comparatively less awesome, but still good with some buffet options. Also, I think the room is not so big for 4 persons. Private bath will only fit one person at any one time. There is only a heater and no cooler air conditioning during our trip (fixed by central control?). But we opened the windows, which has mosquito screen, so the temperature worked out fine.

The hotel location was good, about 10 minutes walk to the Jigokudani Valley. Bus transport to Sapporo was available for a fee. The room was spacious and comfortable. The Muatsu futon was comfortable. The air-conditioning was good. There was a hot spring bath with free-flowing hot spring water inside the room. The quality of the hot spring water was outstanding. The kaiseki dinner was delicious and nicely presented. The breakfast was good. The service of the hotel staff was good.

The room has an old carpet smell. This improved after the air purifier was switched on.

We got a room with personal indoor bath. The view was beautiful with the snow. The host was friendly, and speak english well. One of the waitresses that work in the restaurant (where breakfast buffet and kaiseki dinner is provided) was geniunly nice and I loved her personality, I hope she has many good days to come! 🥰🥰 BEST advice: contact the ryokan ahead of time to reserve complementary bus travel from sapporo station to the ryokan and vice versa. Save yourself 2500-5000 yen 😘 . Also, if you plan to go to places in noboribetsu, make sure to have cash/ coins. Bus only takes cash (they can provide change if needed).

We just arrived at our room for the 1st time and the toilet smelled like pee and was outdated 😞. Also, no chromecast or netflix connectivity on TV if you want to chill. The Kaiseki included with the room was just ok, i've gone to other ryokans in hakone and atami where the food taste and presentation was more pretty and delicious/ satisfying.

Front desk male staff were super friendly and helpful. He gave us towel when we arrived with wet hair because of the heavy snow. Thank you so much! We were worried we cannot checkin because the JR runs late for 30 mins. He let us check in and we were able to have the fabulous fancy delicious dinner. 怀石料理 The hot tubs are great. The first time I tried an outdoor one though very cold outside haha. And we have the private onsen in room where the water makes your skin bright and smooth. Also Japanese people believe it can cure your body problems. The whole valley is like a little Yellowstone national park with the smell in the air. The whole trip is relaxing, satisfying and enjoyable except the easily delayed JR train. I do appreciate and would recommend and come back again.
