Wonderful silent and peaceful place. You can reach the hotel in about 20 min walking distance from Sbahn or from Altstadt Ketwig. But you can also use a bus from stadt or station to reach the hotel. There is a parking platz for your car. Comfortable room, kind staff. Nice small restorant, tasty food. Nice breakfast. Beautiful stay.

Friendly staff, lovely room. Breakfast was good. Only 15min from the Messe and a lovely drive past a vegetable/ fruit market. Dinner was lovely.

No air conditioner - but I did get a fan sent to my room when I asked. This really helped, since it was very hot weather! No phone in the room, so you need to call reception from your phone, or get dressed and walk down the passage. Restaurant is closed on a Monday, but stayed 2 nights so could enjoy the dinner on Tuesday.

The staff are very friendly and helpful lovely hotel. The meals in the restaurant are exceptional. The breakfast is also very good with lots of choice. I would highly recommend the hotel. This is the third time l have stayed here and look forward to my next visit.

Rather large room, spacious bathroom, everything was nice and clean. There is free parking right at the entrance.

There could be more parking spaces in front of the hotel, but it's no big deal since you can park on the street for free.

Substantial buffet breakfast. Good sized "single room", clean + comfortable. Friendly, helpful staff. Location outside Kettwig itself but very close to bus stop for connection to Kettwig station and onwards to Essen, 17 minutes away.

Quiet location with a nice restaurant to enjoy dinner without having to drive anywhere. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked with a nice range of options. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout my stay

Very cozy and comfortable hotel. Very friendly personnel. There is enough space for parking. The breakfast is good and variable. The room was clean and comfortable. The beds are very good and we slept well.

Location was great as far as it was walkable to town. Street was nosy and airplanes were flying over the area starting at 5:00 in the morning. The restaurant was closed.

We have stayed at the Schmactenburg several times; this is our favorite hotel in Essen. Our dear friend lives in Essen and the hotel is literally 90 seconds from our friend's flat! The staff is amazing--Hielike (sp?) and the rest of the staff are both friendly and helpful. We have eaten at the restaurant twice and each time the food has been amazing!!! Our compliments to the chefs each time! The hotel has an old time feel and comfort with updated rooms and amenities! Can't imagine staying anywhere else in Essen!!!
