Beautiful old building that gives the hotel character. We had a cosy double room with a shower which was perfect for us as I have a disability and struggle with a bath. No lift but stairs are shallow and manageable. We asked for low level and they kindly gave us Room 1, the lowest level room they have. Tea/coffee facilities in room and bottled water and biscuits. We drank in the bar and average prices and a large comfortable area to sit, even has a couple of sofas and armchairs. Breakfast was a nice choice and help yourself to coffee. Dinner each night was very nice and good value. Only ‘slight’ negative was the first night in the restaurant our food and drinks were a little muddled, but we worked around it and still enjoyed. If you’re on motorcycles there is a tarmac car park at the rear (you may even be able to use their garage possibly but we were in a car this time so didn’t ask). Entrance up a very slight incline that levels out with approximately 12 or so car spaces. There is a Spar opposite and a chip shop open 7 days a week if you’re not wanting a full meal. Also a coffee shop in the square.

Signage for car park was very small and difficult to find after a long journey but this is a just an observation.

we were in room 5, great room plenty hot water shower not to good but we understand that,room clean and staff came in daily with clean towels, they were friendly and helpful.breakfast was perfect staff great.this is our 7 th visit and we will return .

we booked table for evening meal for the three nights we were there in dinning room.menu difficult for me being vegetarian,not enough choice,we had a problem on 2nd night we were not offered water as usually were,we were not offered drinks i had to ask.husband had gammon which he did not enjoy was hardly cooked.did advise staff who offered alternative but half way through meal dont want to start again.i asked for fries which i did not get advised staff they had not arrived but they never arrived.so not to happy about that....the last night we ate in the bar which was fine no problems.did tell lady on the desk as we were checking out re the 2nd night meal as this did slightly spoil our stay

This is a great hotel whether you are walking Offa's Dyke or just wish to visit the area. All the staff are friendly and accommodating, allowing my friend and I to leave our boots in the warm cellar. to dry out. The food in the restaurant was well presented and cooked well, and this was repeated at breakfast with a full range of options, including fresh fruit, prunes, yoghurt, and Danish pastry. It was pleasing to see omelette as an option. The hotel offers excellent value for money. I enjoyed my 1 night stay so much. I plan to return with my wife.

I was in room 17, a small twin with a small and cramped en-suite, although, including a bath. My critism is that A great hotel in a great location.there is a low room beam before the en-suite, and although padded, it is at about a most only 5' above the floor, which for someone at 6'5" is not ideal. The dressing area outside the en-suite seems wasted space. By getting rid of this space, the bathroom could be increased to provide more space.

The location couldn't be better, right in the centre of a beautiful town with the castle just a short walk away. The room was kept very clean and the biscuits etc replenished every day. We loved the olde world ambience. The staff were friendly (particularly the receptionist when we arrived) and the dinner menu was both varied and reasonably priced and the food was good.

Our room faced the car park and some nights there was a lot of late night (midnight) noise and cigarette smoke from outside keeping us awake. The breakfast was OK, except that things ran out - one morning there was only sliced bread on offer (no fresh bread or croissants) and on the last morning there were no yoghurts.

Amazing service and truly lovely staff. We were delayed on our journey and arrived 2 hours later than expected and just as the kitchen was closing for evening food. But that was no problem at all - they took our order straight away, rushed it to the kitchen, settled us in our room and said to come on down for dinner when we were ready. They even arranged a quiet table in the bistro so we could just chill. The front-of-house staff, breakfast staff, everyone we encountered were an absolute joy. The room was great - lovely and clean, comfy bed and even though you are on the edge of the market square, it was so, so quiet. And Montgomery is a beautiful gem of a place. It has been a while since I have experienced such superb hotelmanship - but The Dragon Hotel does it with total panache, style and wonderful people. Thank you.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming which really made our stay happy and stress free. There is a good vibe in the hotel with a lively and informal atmosphere Vintage /old world is he theme,but in places could do with some investment without loosing the fab and relaxing atmosphere . The single rooms are very small but comfy and good value especially for walkers. Hoping to return here again soon with my wife so would like it if we could have a more spacious and comfort double room if available . It's dog friendly so that is an added bonus. Breakfast was really very good. . We had to eat in the bar with the dog. It's good value pub fare and home cooked in the main. I had pie and chips the first night which was delicious but don't expect posh grub .

Some money needs to be invested and the hotel pool wasn't open. Please please please though don't modernise and make it boring. Things like sanding the table tops in the bar and new table lamps would be great and some work in the rooms.

Good quality breakfast items. Comfortable room and parking is excellent. The second morning, the hash browns and black pudding were rock hard and inedible however. It would be helpful if for future they inform you if the restaurant is to be closed for the night. We were expecting an evening meal in their bistro only to find they'd decided not to open it that night and we had to eat in the bar. . Despite us having a booking, there were no tables set in readiness for our booking. The staff are all lovely.

We enjoyed our stay at Dragon Hotel very much. The room was clean, the towels were large and fluffy, and the bed was comfy. We chose the hotel because it was close to where we needed to be in Wales, and my husband has a bit of passion for half-timber buildings. The building did not disappoint him and the surrounding area was a visual and historical delight. Food was really extraordinary! Our dinner, the first night, was excellent--interesting, well-prepared, and delicious! I'd give the meal 5 stars! Breakfast each morning was fine, with options to please almost anyone. The hotel is in a very old building so hot water was a long time coming but it did get there and was plentiful and hot!

Lovely location in picturesque Town, Staff all hardworking and very helpful. Hotel clean & welcoming Farmers market, lovely local businesses, friendly people

Appreciate a very old hotel however the Room was very hot (despite keeping curtains closed during daytime) found it hard to sleep. Fan was provided but insufficient. Maybe having couple of powerful tower fans that could be requested. More staff needed on breakfast especially weekends as someone helped later but chasing their tail and things replenished (or not) too late

* Very helpful & friendly staff throughout the hotel * Enjoyed the food at both dinner & breakfast – good quality ingredients well cooked * Room (16) is large & well equipped with en-suite bathroom with separate bath & shower– all clean & tidy on arrival * Room (16) overlooks the town square – be warned the Town Hall Clock chimes from 07:00am until Midnight! * Plenty of free parking at front of hotel & also in the hotel car park to the rear * I would definitely stay here again when next in the area

* Wi-fi in hotel was a bit “hit & miss” on occasions * Water pressure for shower was not great – but just about adequate * Some room furniture is looking a bit old & tired – but generally fits with the old & creaky characterful nature of the hotel
