Smart marketing to have a 70s style motel, virtually leave it unchanged and label it "Retro"! Not complaining - we had a pleasant stay, the room was reasonable and the location was quiet and an easy commute into Portland. Very friendly and helpful greeting from (I presume) the owner. We liked the disco lights shower head! Good budget accommodation. The BBQ area looked very nice and I would think that facility would be an attraction for a family or group travelling together.

Very few negatives - there were a few signs of wear and tear, especially in the bathroom, but this didn't affect our comfort. Only suggestion would be either provide a longer shower curtain or lower the bar it hangs from so that the curtain screens the shower adequately - however careful we were, we couldn't help splashing water all over the bathroom floor.

Location was great. Motel isoff the main road in to town, so minimal noise, very quiet. Also, it's two streets away from Bentinck Street which runs along the edge of the ridge on which the town is built. This ridge borders the ocean and the Portlanders have had the very good sense to preserve the ocean side of the street for the public. A couple of minutes walk from the motel brings you to some lovely, wide parkland, with stunning ocean views and old pines which cast beautiful shade. If you're a walker like me, it is one of the best ways to get into the town. I liked everything about Portland. The shopping centre is small so easily walkable and everything is handy: cafes, restaurants, pubs, bakeries, an IGA, Aldi and Woolworths, and lots of other specialty shops, including ones which cater to hikers/ campers/ fishers. I ate at The Royal Hotel and Clock By The Bay and both were very good. This place is very well located: there are walks everywhere and the Cape Bridgewater walk from Bridgewater Beach to the Blowholes is not to be missed: you walk round and up to the top of the headland, with rolling pastures/ sheep grazing on one side of the path and cliffs with the ocean crashing on to rocks on the other. It was so good, I did it twice during the week I was there( takes a good 3 + hours though!). A short drive to Nelson takes you to entry points along the Glenelg River and there's a lot to explore there. A further short drive across the border takes you to Port MacDonnell and then up to Mt Gambier and the Blue Lake (all doable within a day there and back). There are also The Grampians c. 2 1/2 hours drive one way. Didn't manage to get that done this trip but it's on my list. Eastwards, there are the lovely small estuary towns of Narrawong and Yambuck on the way to Port Fairy. All along the way, there are small roads/ tracks which take you out to the ocean for a stunning views.

There was nothing I didn't like!

It was the nicer motel experience (you do have those that are not). Friendly and welcoming staff. I was solo and had the luxury of two beds. But a small family or 2 to 3 friends could do with that room. They have thought about everything someone would need in a stay. I mean the cutlery is standard, but the dishwashing liquid and the scrubs were there as well. It was a short stay for me, I guess most would stay a day or two in Portland. So this is a really nice place to stay short term and, you don't have to be anxious about forgetting to pack anything.

Room was a bit darker but I guess it is the motel vibe, keeping it authentic....

Location was brilliant for fishing, also the A/C was awesome after a long day fishing in heat, to come back and crank that up was nice and cool in the room :) The cooking facilities (bbq area) was awesome as well, the brother in law and I went and cooked up a feed for tea, and then again for breakfast the next day! Awesome feature!! Comes with a weber & other big cooker, seats and a TV to put some tunes on.. do recommend for anyone staying!

Brother in law thought the beds were hard, but I like that in a bed so he can go get some concrete and harden up :) other than that nothing to complain about at all, and the lady who checked us in was super friendly and lovely.

I absolutely loved my stay here. I'm a real fan of old-school motels, and this place exceeded my expectations here. It was like travelling back in time to the days of sixties Route 66, and many of the motel room's original features are still in place there. The owners were very friendly and a pleasure to meet and talk with. The room was very comfortable, and had everything I needed for a self-catered stay. It was very quiet, and I slept really well there. Thank you not only for a wonderful stay, but also for a "travelling-back-in-time" experience!

Great, well priced motel. Staff were very friendly when we checked in. Room had all the necessities and was clean and well presented. Comfortable bed and the shower was terrific with great pressure and nice HOT water. Added bonus was the retro colour changing shower head.

No negative commentary. Location was a little out of the centre of town but only a short walk to a great view of the bay and coastline.

Cozy motel, worked great for us to get some shelter from a terrible wind storm. Free Netflix was the best! We were allowed to a late check-out (still because of the awful weather) which was much appreciated. There is a small shared kitchen area which comes handy. Very much recommended if you pass by!

I just think the shared kitchen area could be kept cleaner…it is such a nice plus to have one, I’m sure more guests would like to use it!

The location for what we wanted to do was spot on. The accommodation itself i couldn't fault, the owners were 110 % , clearly interested in their guests needs and going that little bit extra to make our stay memorable. Little touches like essentials etc available.

The weather, cant lie, we're Scottish and it was like being back home, rain and wind, not the properties fault but there it is.

Friendly, old-fashioned service and style. Staying here took me back. The room was spotless. I found the shower rose thingie cute. All the usual mod cons.

The air-conditioner/heater did the job, but it was noisy. The bed was comfortable for me, but my wife was quite stiff the day after. Netflix didn't work as I believe too many people were trying to use the service at the same time, and it just buffered forever. I just turned it off.

Wasn't too far from town and was in a quiet street. Staff were very friendly. WIfi was good from memory.

Rooms a bit dated, but hey it's in the name so I expected that. Annoying green light outside shon through the window, although I believe this turned off around 10pm. I did like the light up shower head at first until I Realised that red meant it was judging me for being in the shower too long.
