Hosts Frits and Paula are cordial, disarming and readily available and welcoming. Upon arrival any sense of urgency that may have tagged along uninvitedly slips away, a vocational hazard of modern living. The property is nestled away on the edge of the Rio Grande River giving you a feeling of privacy you would expect if you were in the high mountain, giving you the advantage of being close to local restaurants and businesses. Fritz invested a lot of time in planning and building his cabins, choosing hewn timbers from Tennessee, contrasted with a modern white chinking material, providing a rustic Appalachian effect, with dovetail notches at the corners, as compared to the round “Lincoln Log” timber. I spent some time marveling at his craftsmanship. Anyone who has taken a woodworking or a “Shop” class in high school will appreciate Fritz’s desire to maintain this historical style. After years of reservations on Booking, Riverside Meadows Cabins has reset the bar for the gold standard. The location is unbeatable and the owners incredibly accommodating. My partner and I discovered this place by pure luck in an effort to escape the heat of eastern Utah. The reviews don’t do this place justice, and for good reason: loose lips sink ships! Seriously, I feel like we stumbled upon one of the best small businesses in all of Colorado. Literal footsteps from the Rio Grande, the rooms are immaculate and well provisioned. Quiet and comfortable, my partner and I are already looking forward to our next stay with Fritz and his family. And speaking of Fritz, I would be remiss if I didn’t single him out for being such a great host. After my girlfriend and I arrived, Fritz and his family took off to attend a music festival in neighboring Del Norte. Not a half hour later I locked the room keys to our room inside the cabin. And when I called Fritz, not only did he answer, he walked us through finding a hide-a-key completely saving the day. So many superlatives to say about this place, but between the surroundings, the immaculately clean rooms, the wonderful owners and their resident border collie, Kobi, this place is the definition of five stars!

Absolutely not a thing!

The owners put a lot of stock in creating an environment to relax and it felt like we were stepping into another world for a time. The cabins were just yards from the river and so tastefully decorated. They have flowers staged everywhere. We would love to come back someday.

I personally don’t like to wake up when the sun comes up so I usually like to have curtains on the windows as an option. I can understand why the owners would like to keep that to a minimum because it would take away from the beauty of the inside of the cabin.

Cozy cabin right on the river, unique decor inside of the cabin. Wish we could stay there with some company of friends, make BBQ, spend time outside etc. Since we were on the road trip and had plans for every single day, didn`t really have chance to properly enjoy this great location. Drinking coffee in the morning outside and watching geese playing in the river was awesome, even though we had some real chilly mornings. My husband loved it so much that for days now he`s been talking about having our own cabin just like this one :-)

We liked everything about the cabin other than the fact that we couldn`t enjoy everything this accommodation had to offer due to our busy road trip schedule. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, so it is 1+ hour drive to Great Sand Dunes National park and 1 hour drive to Pagosa Springs, which are the major attractions in the area. Road from South Fork to Pagosa Springs is absolutely spectacular and even though we had to drive it twice it`s totally worth it. So what I`m trying to say is that whatever inconvenience we experienced due to cabin`s remote location it was due to our own poor planning and absolutely no fault of accommodation.

Fritz, Paula and Sadi too were all exceptionally friendly. Having my room virtualy on the bank of the Rio Grand was an unexpected bonus.

The mini refrigerator located in the bedroom was vibrating. I wouldn't have noticed that if it weren't for the tray of glasses placed on top of it, which intensified the vibration sound. I fixed this by removing the tray, but perhaps the refrigerator could be placed elsewhere in the cabin, further away from the bed.

An idyllic & peaceful setting. My stay was only for 1 night, but I can imagine it would be a great place to return to every night after a day of adventuring during a prolonged stay. The proprietor, Fritz, was great. Would recommend to anyone.

We have stay here 3 times over the last 4 years and love it more and more every time. The host are great and the place is just lovely. You won't be disappointed.

Our stay wasn't long enough

Cabin was spacious and comfortable, located alongside Rio Grande River...enjoyed the outdoor seating and space and the friendly dog. Close to town and restaurants, and National Forest. We took a day trip to Creede, an interesting little town about 25 miles NW. Hosts were friendly and outgoing. Well designed and maintained the cabins.

All was wonderful

Location ... on the Rio Grande River in a park-like setting. Fritz is an excellent host and has done a terrific job of building the various cabins. Our "log" cabin was 1 bedroom/bathroom with very comfortable over stuffed chairs. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. Next trip to South Fork, we will stay here again!

Nothing!

The cabin was right on the river with a fire pit. The cabin was nicely decorated, comfortable, and cute newer cabin. The owner was nice and has a nice dog. Good location. Owner gave good directions to get there.

Nothing we can think of. We were there only one night, but what we can tell it would be excellent for a longer visit. If you have a dog, their studio apartment above the garage accommodates one. No dogs are allowed in the log cabins.
