I just got done with three days with my nephew in Islay and stayed at the Bridgend Hotel. This was an absolute delight, the place exudes incredible charm and we would have had a very different experience had we stayed elsewhere. What utterly impressed me is the choice of artwork throughout, the halls and the rooms. This was tasteful and varied, and always engaging. This is miles above your usual chain hotels. The food is a vital part of the experience, locally sourced and served with such attention so as to make us feel conflicted eating elsewhere. Location wise this place cannot be beaten to see the whole island and a reasonable base for the distilleries. I cannot think of anything to improve. This place is a gem.
Leaving!

Relatively easy to find. I was working on Jura so needed somewhere quickly after a change of day really liked The Local shampoo and conditioner. That was a nice touch. The shower was good and hot and I didn’t think the shower was too small at all. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Food was very nice in terms of the breakfast however I did ask for a vegetarian breakfast but luckily I am not vegetarian. I was given the full works which I did eat because I didn’t want to waste the food but if I had been vegetarian that would’ve been a bit of a problem.
It can be quite difficult to carry items of suitcases and luggage through the main bar area to get in. They do have a front door which does not appear to open and I wonder if those would bigger items of luggage could be allowed to come through that door. I ended up having to decant some of my luggage into a smaller bag rather than bring my main bag in because I didn’t want to injure anyone in the bar with it. It also looks a bit strange having people wandering through the bar and restaurant area carrying their luggage, maybe it was just a busy night for the staff.

Comfortable hotel with nice traditionally furnished rooms and comfortable beds. The breakfast was great, choices from Scotish to continental, and the food in the restaurant was also very good. Everyone was very nice, service was impeccable, thank you all! Perfect location for visits all over Islay, and of course you need a car. Enough parking space is available.
Room was rather small but still comfortable. Reservation in the restaurant is highly recommended, always busy, especially the pub in the evening. These are only minor points, but the only thing that was really difficult for us: there is no ventilation in the bathroom and the bathroom windows cannot be opened.

Our room was a compact double but had everything we needed and the bed was super comfy. It was at the back of the hotel so very peaceful. We lloved the comfort and homely feel , the garden was a lovely bonus and ideal place to relax with a drink. The full Scottish breakfast was one of the best we've ever had accompanied by delicious coffee and pastries . There is free parking and pets are welcome . Our evening meals were great , eaten in the bar with pooch . Plenty of nice choices 👌
We were made so welcome and felt very comfortable. There were the occasional hiccups and things not available on the menu but honestly nothing to concern us at all and would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here. We will definitely return .

Located just south of the junction with A847 on A846 in Bridgend. The Hotel had a restaurant, bar, and was situated across from a store and gas station. This location was centrally located and perfect for my visit to Islay. The room was well -appointed with an ensuite. The breakfasts were very good with a number of items from which to choose. The staff were friendly and helpful. It suited all my needs and expectations.
I can't recall any negative issues associated with the Bridgend Hotel.

Nice little hotel / pub / restaurant. Food was good.
Party noise to well past 1am. Staff didn't cope well with an extra guest for dinner while servicing a party of about 10 and another small group.

The room was exceptional! The staff over all went above and beyond, were very friendly and helpful with things related to the bus schedule, advice for places to eat and just general information about the island. Frank in particular was an absolute rock star! I have never met someone with as much gusto for customer service, and follow through. He literally made sure I got where I needed to go and then some. This experience from the people at this hotel as a whole has made me already plan a return trip.
Everything was perfect about it.

The building is on the old side but it's part of its charm, the only downside is the hallway creaking when someone leaves early. The staff was great, the breakfast has got something for everyone, I loved the smoked haddock as something I don't get at home. There is a bar and restaurant which we didn't get a chance to use and that's it. A few local crafts and artisans a little up the road, and Bowmore is 2 1/2 miles away not on a pedestrian-friendly road so I'd hesitate booking there if you don't have a car or hired driver. With a car, we loved the quiet central location on the island.
It was more expensive than we wanted to spend

Our room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The bar and dining area were also very nice. The food we had, especially for dinner was very good and service excellent. The Manager Ian went out of his way to help us after our car ferry crossing was cancelled. Our stay in Islay was much better due to him helping us get a hire car!
Hotel is definitely a great choice it you really need some transport. We’d have liked a separate sort of bar area, some of the bar and dining were a bit mixed but this was I think due to the popularity of their very good food and it was nicely set out.

Super friendly and welcoming staff, great for local knowledge etc. Breakfast & Dinners were really good. Very quaint hotel, room was very clean & the garden was lovely. Great location, fairly central between Port Ellen & Port Askaig. We would definitely stay again.
We booked a small double room - so we knew it wouldn’t be spacious, but it was quite small and a little tricky to fit cases in etc. Bathroom was very clean and nicely renovated - but shower was tiny!
