We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at the Kings Arms Hotel in Abergavenny — what a fantastic base for exploring the area! It’s just a short drive to nearby towns and the Sugarloaf for some bracing countryside walks. The hotel staff were absolutely lovely — warm, welcoming, and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Our room was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, with an ample supply of tea, coffee, bottled water, and even a cafetière with fresh ground coffee — a lovely touch. Breakfast each morning was a real treat: fresh orange juice, granola with yogurt and red berries, followed by poached egg, avocado, and bacon. I opted for the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon — delicious! Toast with a wide selection of jams and a proper pot of tea rounded off the meal perfectly. Everything was cooked to perfection. Although the hotel is centrally located, it was peaceful and quiet, even on Friday and Saturday nights. The room was incredibly comfortable and ready for our arrival, complete with thoughtful touches. We had booked a dog-friendly room, and they had even provided a bed and bowls for Pickles — very much appreciated. The genuine friendliness of the staff made it feel more like staying with friends than being away. I’d highly recommend the Kings Arms Hotel for anyone visiting Abergavenny. We’ll definitely be back!

Nothing.

Breakfast was nice great quality but a bit small. I'm just greedy though.. I had a evening meal and it was spot on.. Service from the staff was the best I have ever had, really friendly and nothing was to much trouble.. Bed was super comfy.

I stayed in a small room which was clean with a comfy bed.. The only thing really was their was no wardrobe and the TV was a cheapo.. Just needed a fitted wardrobe and a decent TV then it would have been perfect.. Nice bathroom and loved the quirky nature of the old building with the wonky floors and ceilings.. I will go back at some point, nice town, nice hotel.

Lovely big bedroom with a large, comfortable bed, sofa and chairs. Spacious bathroom with twin basins, good shower and large jacuzzi bath. Quaint old coaching inn serving excellent breakfast and nicely presented meals. Great location with pleasant tree shaded area for drinks and eating. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

In the middle of a heat wave, despite the provision of two large fans, the room could have benefited from an air-conditioning unit. Some of the rooms have fairly steep stairs, which may not suit all.

It was good value for money

I was asked at the property to pay a £25 fee for my dog. I refused. This as far as I was concerned was not advertised or at least visible prior to booking. I even contacted the hotel to enquire about my dog and no one mentioned the charge, they just said it was dog friendly. Either make it more visible or don’t charge it. £25 is an unfair charge in my eyes as it is in excess of 25% of the total cost of the hotel. Had it been advertised I would not have booked. I don’t like hidden costs. This is not the first time I have had this problem with booking.com

Absolutely loved this overnight stay. Exceeded my expectation! Staff were great, room was lovely and despite having a downside view you had no disturbances from the bar terrace below. Beds were really comfy and breakfast was amazing. Also love the idea of ordering your breakfast the night before so they can prepare accordingly and avoid food wastage. I also asked for something extra in the morning and this was no problem. We also asked around for restaurant recommendations and a few suggested the hotel restaurant. The food was fab and a mixed vibe of guests with tables nicely spread out for privacy.

Nothing.

Very good location and a spacious car park nearby which is free most days. This is a quirky hotel with lots of character. We stayed in room 8 which is spacious and has a bath aswell as a shower. Good value for money weekday rate including a nice breakfast, which you pre-order the day before. Staff were very friendly, and we ate in the restaurant behind reception, with nicely spaced tables.

Nothing we didn't like . We did mention to the staff that the full sized kettle is hard to fill using the bathroom sink . However , that is not a criticism, merely a thing that can easily be swapped and staff did offer a jug of water.

Lovely big room, comfy bed, windows that opened, what a bonus! Shower a bit dated

The state of the carpet on the out stairs and landing is disgusting, and probably a trip hazard. It’s an extremely old and lovely building which also doesn’t help. I appreciate that it leads from the outdoors, but the sagging, very dirty and aging carpet lets down an otherwise very pleasant experience.I’m sure it could be smartened up with something cleaner, safer and more weatherproof at a relatively minimal price if costs are an issue.

Very old pub hotel in which we had a wonderful quirky room up in the eaves. Location was perfect for our needs and was very quiet overnight. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Hot weather meant our attic room was very warm. However, the Kings Arms had provided a choice of 3 different coolers so our stay was very comfortable.

We were initially concerned about leaving our car in a public car park. However, this proved not to be an issue as we could see our vehicle from our room.

The staff were all so pleasant and helpful. Our room was comfortable and had a good array of tea and coffee available and no stingeing on the little milk pots!

Fortunately, we were on the first floor so only had a small flight of stairs. However, when we saw the stairways up to the top floor, we could see instantly that we could not have managed them if we had been placed there, due to limited mobility. So, perhaps this could be clarified when guests make bookings.

Wonderful pub with rooms. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Kieran who checked us in and was very helpful. We had a large room with a jacuzzi bath and it felt like real luxury. Large bed with soft cotton sheets. The room and pub is very old and it was fantastic to stay somewhere with such history. It has a lovely outside seating area which feels like part of the town. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful with delicious coffee. Thoroughly recommend
