Great room allocated with view over water to Bressay. The hotel is centrally located with accessible rear carpark. It’s certainly old world but fits with ambience of Lerwick
The shower head fittings need some work / replacement (plastic?) and some better room ventilation would be ideal. Staff well intentioned and eager to please and very very busy during our stay (summer solstice). We were told staff shortages / absences are common in Shetland but hotel management needs to make sure usual services such as room clean etc continue to get done in a timely way.

the staff and breakfast were legendary. Janet and Micky super friendly, engaging and attentive. enormous portions and tasty. the rooms bedding and enormous towels were spotless
there is nothing i didn't like. the historical grandure was impressive but showing its age, super none the less. our room was possibly last refurbed in the 70s/80's?. the new owner has a challanging task on his hands, and i wish him great success as it would be a fantastic frature to Lerwick town.

Mickey's breakfasts are fantastic! Full scottish cooked breakfast with haggis, yum. Missing you already! And Janet and the other staff were so good not just sorting and bringing breakfast but with tips and advice on Shetland, thanks to you All.
Not much at all, the Grand Hotel is an old and listed building so the owners cant put in a lift. But the grandeur and comfort more than make up for this. Plus the friendliness of Lisa, Barney and all their staff was fabulous, thanks to you all.

The staff in this hotel give you the traditional Shetland welcome. They go above and beyond what I expected in terms of helping me with my bag, making me a coffee in the bar and just being so friendly and helpful. The hotel is perfectly situated for a visit to Shetland - right in the middle of the shopping district and close to ferries
If you're disabled or struggle with steps you should go elsewhere - the hotel might be a listed building which would prevent installing an elevator- I'm not sure. Apart from that, I'd recommend this hotel to visitors.

I was pleasantly surprised with the flexibility from the Owner/Manager "Harvey" who more than adequately catered for my needs during my stay. I was very impressed with his "hands on" approach. Mickey and Janet were definitely the "dynamic duo - Batman and Robin" at breakfast time providing a warm and friendly service, always a smile and a 1st class breakfast on offer, for sure more than I needed, but i did over indulge, why not! Overall 95% satisfaction. Not every bodies cup of tea I can only guess, but I will return for sure.
No please do not disturb sign for bedroom door, no telephone and no fridge, the stairs were difficult for me but would not detract from me staying again.

The staff were incredibly kind, patient, willing to help, and very sociable! The breakfasts were very generous, set in a large yet cozy banquet room, ranging from various cereals to a solid fry up, and everything in between. The hotel itself is in the heart of Lerwick, and within stone's throw of pretty much everything, from cafés to chippies to gift shops. The owner even went out of his way and gave me an emergency lift to the ferry after my flight was cancelled.
The only suggestion I have is to add hydraulic door closers to all doors. There were several times where guests would move about the hotel at night and would let doors slam behind them.

The breakfast was amazing Micky gave us great choices. Even went out to get fish (smoked haddock). Janet queen of the Dinning room. Even got into our car to show us the way to the carpark. Harvey the owner made us very welcome and upgraded us to a Seaview. Carried are weighty luggage upto the carpark. The hotel is a work in progress but has character. We thoughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to stay.
Nothing really as the hotel is in the process of being modernised. It would be unfair to criticise.

1. The hotel has a beautiful grand staircase as its entrance. The stairs are daunting with luggage but the staff is helpful. When we checked out, Harvey even delivered our luggage to the Northlink ferry! 2. The breakfast was generous, and available from before 7am until about 10 am. No problem getting breakfast even though we were jet lagged. Further, hot items--tea, coffee, toast, eggs, etc.--were served by the same 1-2 pleasant wait staff whom we enjoyed seeing every morning. The cold cereal selection was abundant--we think it was the entire cereal aisle from Tesco! 3. The bar was a good place to hang out when we didn't want to go to our room. We could access the hotel's wi-fi there and bring our carry out food if we wanted to.
The hotel's floor layout was quirky. I never figured out how there were 300-numbered rooms on different levels? forks?, but I *did* figure out to avoid the stairway labeled "fire escape" that dead-ended into a wall! The latter is dangerous...

The hotel management and staff are most accommodating and friendly making our stay a total pleasure! The room is comfortable with a magnificent view over the harbour and bay. The Scottish breakfast is excellent! The hotel is a gracious period building in the centre of the town hub close to good shopping and restaurants. Parking is ample, close and convenient. Thanks for a great time and we shall be returning soonest!!
