Busta House is full of history and character set at a wonderful location on beautiful Shetland. As a mix of old and new it still maintains a welcoming warmth and charm and since it's an old house, a good dose of fun quirkiness. We unfortunately booked one of the last remaining rooms; it did not come with a view and was on the small side, but still comfortable for our short two night stay. The wait staff and food (both dinner and breakfast) were just awesome. We loved all our meals and drinks. I tried all the fish dishes and all were fresh and wonderful. Busta House is a very special and unique place that I look forward to visiting again in the future.

I had reservations about my stay since this seemed like a very remote location in Shetland and I didn't know much about it. We rented a car and it was easy to navigate via GPS to Brea, which seemed like a nice little town with supermarkets and some restaurants available (I thought there would be nothing around for miles). It's easy to get to the house and it has a lovely view to the water. The staff was friendly, the house is cozy and warm and even though is a historic venue, the rooms were well kept, clean and the bathrooms were fully refurbished. The food is good, they offer a fully loaded Scottish breakfast (if that is something you fancy) and a variety of meals for lunch and dinner, preferably book in advance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if I'm ever back in Shetland, I'd come back.

It was atmospheric, the room was lovely. We had a family room although we were just a couple, it was really nice though. The Long Room is a very nice place to have a drink before and/or after your meal, it would have been nicer if the fire had been on. The breakfast was amazing, the evening meal was fine I have eaten here before though and the evening meal was much better on that occasion. The staff, although young, were lovely and attentive, very polite.

Large and comfortable bed, beautiful rooms. Staff were all lovely and attentive, allowed us to check in early. Excellent and varied breakfast and evening meals. Couldn't recommend more. Maybe not the best place for anyone with mobility issues however, as the bathroom is very small and getting into the bath/shower requires stepping over/around the toilet.

Breakfast was superb - especially the porridge and the smoked haddock with poached eggs. Lovely lounge area. Welcoming, friendly staff.
The grounds really need some attention. Although our room had a sea view it was very limited due to the trees having been allowed to grow without pruning. It would be a glorious garden but it seems that there aren’t sufficient funds for maintenance.

Very good freshly cooked breakfast with a lot to choose from. Helpful and kind staff. Diner also excellent and the wine list is long. Cosy lounge to sit, where you can enjoy a drink before dinner, and the staff will take your order and pick you up shortly before the food is ready. Relaxed atmosphere. I believe the rooms may be a little larger than announced (it said 8sqm)
Our rooms turned towards the yard, and one could hear the fans from the kitchen in the morning, since we slept for open windows.

Busta is a lovely quaint hotel in Shetland. The staff were lovely and accommodating, the bed was super comfortable and the sheets super soft. The loo was super clean too. Breakfast was included and for a small hotel in mainland Shetland I could not have asked for more. The main lounge was a treat for a bit of silent reading.

Brilliant location for visiting the north of Shetland Mainland. Excellent staff, well trained, attentive to detail, friendly, knowledgeable about the area and about the menus and drinks. Excellent breakfasts, fresh and well cooked.
This is an old and characterful building with a lot of history. The downside is steep steps from the car park- but staff willingly carried our bags up and down. The other problem is that sound caries between rooms. The owner is working on a programme of soundproofing so it may be worth requesting a room that has been refurbished to include soundproofing.

Hadn't stayed for a while at busta, felt it had gone down hill a bit, but what a difference, was excellent, food was delicious.
On the full breakfast, I felt sausages let it down, tasted cheap, they were ok, but nothing more , there is excellent butchers in Shetland who would have better sausages.

This place is so characterful, and well worth breaking our usual diet of hostels/homestays to experience! Especially in winter, when you'll be spending more time in your accommodation in the evenings (and perhaps not wanting to brave the weather to get dinner), just being here is an experience to add to your itinerary. Reading a book or enjoying a whisky in the historic lounge is a must do, especially in the quiet winter months. The staff were also very attentive and accommodating. By the time we arrived, we were extremely tired (our travel was disrupted by a storm), so we were quite indecisive, and not up for a rich meal that would delay us going to bed. They suggested adjustments to their menu items to make us a light dinner instead, and it worked out perfectly. Come invoice time, it hadn't cost much more than the original starter, either! The staff at breakfast were just as good.
The music in the dining areas was very strange! Actually, it was quite entertainingly eclectic during dinner (think going from an acoustic Katy Perry cover to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack to classical cello and back), but the breakfast playlist was just annoying. All acoustic pop/alt covers of tired, overplayed songs, and the same ones in the same order both mornings. Radio pop is written to grab attention, and it detracted from the surroundings. An odd thing to pick up on, perhaps, but it was the only thing I noticed that felt "off"!
