All good. Nice staff, a good onsun with lovely view (tip: go in the afternoon instead at night to enjoy the view). Good beds. Tip for breakfast (beside at the B&B): Cottage Inn restaurant, mainstreet Tip for dinner: local japanese restaurant Cafe Restaurant Bell and aks for the meal of the monks. Visit all the temples and shrines
In general it was clean, no comments on that. Except the aircondition filters. They were covered in dust (as it is in most hotels and B&B due to use and sometimes not proper cleaning), however these were cloghed by a thick layer of dust.

The staff working at the reception were very helpful and spoke English well. Amazing rooms in the traditional Japanese style. Very tasty breakfast. Quiet and peaceful location. Private Onsen overlooking the river. Free parking right next to the hotel.

The Onsen is great and is a great way to relax with a amazing view of the river rushing down. The best part are the Hotori onsen cool looking kimono's making you feel like a local. The rooms are quite basic, but are nice, clean and homely. It was our first night in Japan and gave us the impression to feel a bit like a local. Although the optional breakfast is not the cheapest, it's worth the value for money, so we ended up booking it for both mornings. The location is jus perfect: Walking distance to all main sites, while you have the feeling you're on a remote place next to a fast flowing mountain river. We came by car, so the wide parking space was much appreciated.

The hotel was about a 25 minute walk from the center of town and maybe 35 minutes from the train station, but we didn't mind because the location was great. It was private, quiet, right next to the river, and close to all the temples and shrines. The facility is very clean and the staff are all super friendly. We enjoyed their onsen, but they only have one and it was on a first come first basis which was not ideal.
A sign up sheet for the onsen usage would be very helpful. Since they only have one, it was hard to know when it was going to be available to use. We tried to use it a few times when it was occupied so had to return to our room, hoping that it would be available the next time we try. A simple sign up sheet would solve this small problem.

Lovely location, close to Kanmangafuchi Abyss, in a quiet area with lots of trees. A short walk to the temples, Nikko botanic gardens, a bus stop and Lawson. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, providing useful restaurant recommendations and identifying the correct buses for us to catch. There was also a lovely private onsen for the people staying at the hotel to use, and free tea and coffee in the reception area. Would definitely like to visit again. The wifi is also good. I had to have some meetings whilst I was staying, and there were no issues.
One minor thing is that - being in a downstairs room - the sound does appear to travel through the floors quite well, so that the people staying above appeared quite noisy. Also, I think a lot of people wanted to use the onsen. Perhaps a sign up sheet or booking system would help.

An absolutely lovely, peaceful hotel with very friendly and helpful English-speaking staff, right next to the trail to the beautiful Kanmangafuchi Abyss and about a 15-minute walk to the large shrine area. You wouldn't believe how close such a famous and popular site is from how peaceful the area around the hotel is. There is a Lawson convenience store within a 10-minute walking distance which is very useful, as there is a limited number of restaurants nearby and they close rather early. A bus stop where you can take the line to Lake Chūzenji is also located near the store. We were given all this information and a custom map right upon arrival. The staff can also help calling a taxi, but keep in mind it has to be booked a day before. We really enjoyed the traditional japanese room we stayed in. The futons were surprisingly comfortable even for someone not used to them. The onsen was also lovely to relax in after a long day sightseeing. It was recommended for up to two people at a time, but depending on the size of your personal space bubble, I think even four people could fit comfortably in the pool. Bathing is restricted to 30mins at a time to give everyone a fair chance to use the facility. The walls are thin and some reviewers have commented on noises carrying through but we had no issues with that apart from the extremely loud flush of our own toilet.
Take care with your bathroom door. We are not sure why, but the door kept locking on its own whenever it closed and it requires a master key to open. We were very sorry to have to bother the staff about unlocking it! I might be a good idea to prop the door open with something when the bathroom is not in use just to be on the safe side. No need to panic if that happens at night though, there is a shared bathroom near the common room.

The proprietress was a lovely woman. She didn't speak much English but had no problem communicating everything. She gave me a map of the area and pointed out all the bus stops and recommended restaurants nearby, giving approximate travel/walking times. Very detailed and delightful! She gave me a tour of the small hotel before bringing me to my room. The location of the hotel is great, a few min walk from the main street but the area is quiet and peaceful. You're steps away from the Kanmangafuchi Abyss pathway, which is a notable point of interest in Nikko. The onsen was fantastic, especially because it's shared but private. So you can go in there on your own and lock the door so you have it to yourself for max 30 min (which is plenty). I stayed in the Japanese style room, which was simple and small but good enough for one night. Japanese style you sleep on the floor on tatami and futon, so if you're used to Western style bed then book one of those rooms. The lady did mention that after I checked out at 10am I could also leave my bags there if I needed to go out and explore. I didn't need to for my plans but it was nice to know I could.
The only thing that bothered me about the room was there was a loud vent/fan in the ceiling going constantly. It wasn't the AC as I didn't have control over it. Perhaps I should have asked the proprietress to see if you could turn it off but I only noticed at night when trying to sleep. It would have kept me up if I didn't use the provided earplugs, which you can find with the other amenities given for free at the front desk.

The situation of the accommodation was amazing. Our room overlooked the river and the forest, and was above the onsen which had the same view. The Kanmangafuchi Abyss was also located just a short walk away. This was our favourite place out of the 5 places we stayed in Japan. The lady that checked us in was so lovely. She gave us so much information on the area, was really personable and made sure we had what we needed. She also waved us off when we left.
Not many choices for dinner around as most places close earlier. But we still were able to have delicious dinners, just a bit earlier.

This was a fantastic location to stay and have walkable access to the world heritage temples and shrine sites of Nikko, the Jizo statues and Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park (if you like Japanese architecture this is a must), and delicious places to eat are also a short walk away. The shared onsen was lovely to heal the muscles after all the walking and other guests respected the allotted 30-minute use time. The people who run the place are very welcoming and speak English. We enjoyed the free coffee in the morning and did our laundry at the end of the stay, with no problems. Staying for 3 nights allowed us just enough time to space everything out so sightseeing did not feel rushed. We would stay again because there was still more to see!

The location was fantastic! The property is right on the river and if you get a riverside room you can hear it with windows closed. The room had great a/c but the common area did not. We loved walking out the door to the riverside trail with the Jizo statues along it. The bus stop to Kegon Falls was an easy few block walk. The Kayan House and Imperial summer palace were an easy walk as was a Lawson’s and a few restaurants. One of our party enjoyed the onsen. I saw 2 e-bikes out front but we didn’t ride them. The staff is very welcoming but bring a translator app as they speak little English.
The lack of a/c in the common area. The breakfast was good but seemed a bit pricey at $10. USD.
