From the moment of arrival to drop off at train station, top class treatment throughout. It’s a historic, well-established hotel nestled in a quiet forest catering to celebrities and well-heeled travelers since 1894. Service and meal offerings were spectacular; the rooms modern and well-appointed, on par with any four-and five star hotels. Something that really caught my attention was the cushioned floors in the room; walking on them gave a level of comfort I’ve not felt at other hotels. And end your day at the iconic bar where John Lennon entertained those gathered on that piano when he stayed here.

Classic old resort hotel, recently (over-)renovated. First room on second floor, forbidden by law (!?) from opening windows more than 10cm. Manager Sanada kindly arranged a first floor room, so we could enjoy the mountain air. Excellent bartender. Try his Old-Fashioned.

Change that silly law! English language ability among staff low; otherwise Japanese-courteous and -competent.

Excellent service from start to finish. The staff were helpful and informative and always poised to support and help out . We wanted for nothing and the vibe of the hotel really helped immerse you in the local area. A great experience.

A bigger breakfast for the western man but it was delicious and the service and overall quality exceeded my expectations.

Our room was well equipped with classical elegance. Bed was comfortable, and bathroom was gorgeous. There was a sense of dignity in blending of good quality of Japanese and western styles. Breakfast was tasty and beautiful. Staff members showed great hospitality. Quiet and peaceful environment.

Beautiful on the inside. Loved feeling like I was in the forest. The staff when above and beyond to ensure a wonderful stay. We ate at the Teppanyaki restaurant which was delicious and watching the chef was like watching a true performance. Worth every penny.

For a special occasion I can't think of a better hotel than the Mampei. The room was smart and quiet, the service was wonderful, and the dinner was of a very high standard. It is expensive but the memories will linger.

Beautiful and luxurious accommodation. The room was very clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Location was not that great. You need a car to wonder around. That applies to the village.
