The hostel itself is just off the Main Street in Basdoit (Moalboal). It is less than a 5 minute walk to everything in town. The atmosphere is relaxed and chill. Wifi was good and consistent. The staff were amazing. They were always friendly and happy to help. They planned tours, gave great recommendations (motorbike rentals, dinner, ATMs, smoothie places, etc), and were all-around great people dedicated to making sure their guests had the best experience. The common area is beautifully decorated, with couches and hammocks to chill in and tables and a bar to eat at. It’s an easy place to chat with people and make new friends. There’s beer pong, board games, books, and a dart board for during downtime. The dorm room houses 12 high quality bunk beds, each with a privacy curtain, shelf, light, bath towel, blanket, pillow, a very comfy mattress, and a locker at the bottom. Stepping into the airconned room after being outside all day is pure bliss. There is one communal bathroom with two enclosed toilets, two enclosed showers (with hot water and soap), and two sinks with plenty of space for toiletries. Their meals are the average price for restaurants around Moalboal, with great food (especially the smoothie bowls). Drinking water is available at all times. Maayong Hostel set a VERY high standard for the rest of our 3 month backpacking trip, and we plan on visiting the close friends we made in our 3 nights there in the near future. Some backpacking tips: - For swimming with sardines, don’t book any tours. Rent a snorkel for 100 PHP/day at Maayong and simply swim 25 metres off Panagsama beach for the exact same experience. - One of the best decisions we made was renting motorbikes. We’re both 18, the closest thing we’ve ever ridden to a moped is a bicycle, but we picked it up immediately. It’s actually laughable how easy it is. The ride to White Beach was a chill and easy 15 minutes, and it beats hiring a tricycle everywhere.

One singular cockroach. That’s it. The fact that this was the only “issue” (and a negligible one at that, because shocker, there are big bugs in the Philippines) should speak volumes about this place. We got very lucky with the people we met here. There aren’t a whole lot of other backpackers/travellers at the hostel, so solo travelling might be a bit of a different experience. This isn’t a complaint, just something I noticed and heard others talk about. It takes nothing away from our experience.

The question is, what didn’t I like? From the minute we arrived in the early hours, everything was sorted for us. Airport collection organised by the hostel and simple checkin instructions meant that it went seamlessly. The staff were incredible- polite, helpful and always willing to answer and assist us with any query. The kitchen where all of the food and drinks are made is visible and it was spotlessly clean and the food was probably some of the best food that we had in Moalboal. It’s small enough that it doesn’t feel crazy busy and big enough that there’s plenty of travellers relaxing in hammocks so that you don’t feel on your own. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thank you for making it an unforgettable experience!!

The only thing I wish was a little better was that the bed was a little softer but that is down to personal preference.

I like that the property is near the beach where you can do the sardine run activity, and walking distance to different restaurants. I also liked that you can do early check in without additional cost if ever you arrived earlier.

I didn’t like that there’s no aircondition during the day, they only open it during 5pm onwards until morning. It was hot inside, if let’s say you just want to relax and chill on your bed but you cannot since the temperature inside the room is getting hotter since the AC has been turned off already. There’s only one stand fan so if you’re on the top bed, the air can no longer reach you.

Everything! I especially loved the kindness of the hotel staff, always willing to help with a smile. They (all ladies, which I also loved) booked me daytrips and taxis and were more than helpful with everything. Great coffee and food at the restaurant. There's a chill atmosphere for those of us who are not into party hostels. The common areas are really comfortable and very cute. The place is close to many restaurants and party places but is located at the end of a road so you can't hear any of the noise. The room is comfy and spacious, the beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom is very nice. Actually, the whole place is always spotless and looks quite new. I think this might be the nicest hostel I've ever been.

The room can get a bit too hot for a nap during the daytime as the A/C is turned off. It's for the environment anyway and not a big deal. There's a fan running all day.

The hostel all in all is really good. It's got a garden that is nice to look at. The beds are so comfy. Although I was assigned in higher bunk, it wasn't too difficult to climb. They religiously clean the whole place. I ran out of cash and I'm glad they accept gcash as payment. Also arranged a swimming activity same day. The people working there are just soooooooooo nice and very accommodating. Their hostel is very comparable to other hostels abroad which is clean and nice and cheap at the same time. The food in their resto are also really good.

This was the first time I stayed at a hostel, because I usually choose boutique hotels. I chose Maayong, because the pictures of the accomodation seemed much nicer than other accomodations in the area. Maayong exceeded my expectations, since the room I stayed in was similar (in terms of interior design, boho chic almost) to that of a boutique hotel. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The common area was also nice and chill. Staff was very friendly. The location is at walking distance to the beach (for the sardine run) and the main road with the bars and restaurants.

The street to the hostel is unpaved and looks shabby, but that's not the hostel's fault.

Wonderful little property, stayed in the bungalow which is quite cute. The room itself is quite small but comfortable. Bathroom is nice. I only recommend they add a waste bin to the bedroom as well instead of just the bathroom. We did not try any of the food and opted to eat out since breakfast was not included - but it often smelled quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful with booking tours. The little basket decors on the wall above the bed did fall on our heads a couple times during sleep lol but no biggie. Also in a great location and easily walkable to the main road for lots of restaurants and shops!

As is with what seems like a lot of properties in the Philippines accommodations are a bit expensive compared to what you get so value for price is on the lower end but otherwise it was a lovely stay and I would recommend it

Great hostel in fantastic location. Lots of activities organised through hostel. You can hire a snorkel and bikes through the hostel too. Staff are very kind and helpful. Very clean dorm and bathroom facilities. Comfy bed and pillow. Shampoo and shower gel in the showers and hand soap at the sinks. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of options. Staff also have recommendations for places for dinner. Due to personal circumstances, we didn’t get to do everything we planned while in Moalboal so when we come back we’ll be sure to stay here again. Highly recommend this hostel.

I’m not even sure where to begin! This hostel was incredible. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the rooms and facilities were spotless—I saw them being cleaned daily. There’s a restaurant right in the hostel, and the large chill-out area was a favorite spot for my friend and me to relax and chat late into the night when we weren’t ready to sleep. They offer a variety of tours, and it was so convenient to just book our accommodation and let them handle the rest. The staff provided plenty of helpful suggestions and tips for things to do during our trip. Everyone working there was so kind and accommodating. The hostel’s location is fantastic, just a short walk to the beach and surrounded by plenty of restaurants and cafes. I brought a friend who was staying in a hostel for the first time, and she absolutely loved it, saying she’d happily do it again in the future! This place offers great value for money and is sure to exceed expectations.

Beautiful Hostel, decorated so well with a relaxed vibe. Staff are amazing even did a Happy Birthday message outside our room on my BD. Food and cheap drinks available, organised our whale shark and canyoneering trips for us which made it extremely easy and a lot cheaper than purchasing on line. They also offer a return airport transfer. People of all ages here something for everyone definitely one of the top hostels I have stayed in would highly recommend and stay again!!

If I was being extremely picky the showers could have been a little warmer.
